if a fandom started around another girls toy franchise would you join it?

If it's as good as FiM, I don't see why the hell I wouldn't join the fun. The bronies will always hold a special place in my heart as the first fandom I ever forged a real connection to though.

It would depend on a number of things, but remember - the MLP fandom is only as large as it is because of the somewhat different approach taken to the TV series. If other franchises don't have this, I don't see myself or too many other people becoming fans.

Barbie show. You be the judge on if it's good or not.I thought it was funny how they would make fun of the dolls and their joints and stuff. Especially the "I only eat high energy protein pellets, each one is a complete meal, and this is my favoriye flavor Yellow!" Although I do admit the show was bad.

So in short, yes.

Well I am a fan littlest pet shop 2012 so it wouldn't be too off for me to join (although I probably wouldn't.)

And there is the fact that Lauren Faust created the concept of Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls which if becomes a series then us bronies will end up seeing and create it's on fanbase from there.

But I don't see any other girls toy franchise that would ever get a fanbase even 3 percent as large as the brony fanbase or exist for that matter.

Well, it depends. MLP is honestly a perfect storm: great characterization and storylines that are enjoyable for both the target demographic and older viewers. Another girl's toy franchise would have to solve the same formula that Lauren Faust, Jayson Thiessen, the DHX team, and Hasbro have successfully solved. If said franchise could balance the "girliness" with strong characterization, captivating storylines, parental bonuses, and a sense of all-ages enjoyment (I don't want the so-bad-I-am-pulling-my-hair-out feeling,) then I'd be willing to give it a try. You know, assuming this hypothetical franchise included a television program like MLP.

Of course, don't expect me to buy merchandise; I don't even do that with MLP.

If it's good yes, I don't see why not. As most people see it, it doesn't get any more 'girly' than My Little Pony, so I don't see what reason we would have to be embarrassed about liking something else similar.

It would really a take a lot to be AS good as MLR and garner the same adult male fanbase. The fact that its cute ponies of a mature but undeterminable age and a massive amount adventures, songs, and cast of characters is what makes the show so good.

To compare, Strawberry Shortcake (reboot) started the same time, on the Hub too, has almost THE SAME CAST OF VOICE ACTORS but it has terrible characters, they have nothing to do during the show. It's clear its there to sell toys. It didn't try to be anything more then a run of the mill girls show. Same thing with the Barbie movies my daughter likes. Monster High seems a little better written. Sofia the First is pretty sugar coated, predictable, and boring. Doc McStuffins is cute but repetitive. None of these are shows i would expect adult guys to enjoy on their own or create a fanbase of their own. In fact if they feature little girls or teen characters it gets a bit creepy you could say to do so. Ponies aren't human or underage so there's that.

Stuff like the Disney movies might be a different matter. Movies like Frozen, Brave, Tangled, etc are something that I enjoyed as much as my wife, and as much as my daughter. They were fun, romantic, musical, and well produced. But they weren't tv shows. If they can make an ongoing tv show out of a movie like that (see Kung Fu Panda or How to Tame Your Dragon for the right way to do so) or start someting new with the same ALL AGES APPEAL then there's a serious chance of history repeating itself. Otherwise no, MLP has a magic formula because they tweaked everything right and it created a fanbase that recognized that.

The question is inherently flawed and ridiculous as it assumes anyone would decide whether or not to join a fandom solely based on whether it goes against type. If a franchise is good, be a fan. If it isn't, don't.

And frankly, the very notion of a "girls toy" is kind of ridiculous. When I needed giant zombies for my play sessions, Barbie was a fine solution. Granted, I generally had to mutilate the doll to get it in character. And they were never mine, so I got yelled at a lot. >.>

Depends on if it's good or not.

I didn't join MLP because it was a formerly-female-oriented franchise, I joined the fandom because the show was enjoyable and fun. If the hypothetical new thing was good, I'd happily watch it.

Personally, I just want television to stop appealing to different gender groups and just appeal to everyone. :T

It depends on the quality of the franchise. It's not about whether it's "for girls" or not. It's about the show/product itself.

It depends if it was good or not! If it was crap, then no, if it was awesome and actually had good writing, then sure...why not! :yay:

Well, the Brony fandom was not really the reason I started watching MLP, I personally enjoyed it and I didn't even think about getting involved with the community until a few months after I started watching the show.  So if another fandom sprouted up it would all depend on the quality of the show, if I liked it then sure.
