Equestriademic

An epidemic hits Equestria causing skin to to itch and fall apart. Then the flesh underneath starts to rot and go green with moss, which is then followed my Nausea and corrosive vomiting. After about a week or two the victim dies leaving contagious fumes behind which can infect another host causing the same. The disease is first spread via rabid animals by biting the victim, also animals drinking from a water supply can contaminate the water causing the disease to spread.

Animals will have to be wiped out, big cities like Canterlot will have to be protected by force field to keep infected out, quarantine zones will have to replace smaller towns like Ponyville, and infected will have to be taken underground to prevent the spread of the disease. A religious group that worship the disease are trying to prevent a cure and vaccine. A group of survivors called 'The Purified' are not infected but go around and kill infected individuals and survivors who are not part a part of their group. The groups are at a civil war with each other relating to the matter of the disease.

The infected are NOT zombies, they eventually die from the disease. The animals are NOT zombies, they're rabid and are also the carriers of the disease, they are the ones that first started spreading it. The groups are NOT zombies, they are simply psychotic with a different point of view. The only civil Ponies are the military, survivors in quarantine zones, the survivors in big cities, and normal roaming survivors. There are no and I repeat NO zombies what so ever.

I hope these ideas inspire somepony ;)

This sounds like some kind of nasty hyper rabies @___@

However, I need to ask something:

Skin that itches then falls apart... does this mean that all the layers of skin come off? Or just a few? Because if you take away all the layers of skin in a patch, not only would you be more likely to bleed out than to survive the rest of the illness, but you'd probably die from the pain of it! Especially if it's ALL the skin, not just a leg or a part of a pony's flank.

Also, how did this disease come to be? Was it created in a lab (like in Resident Evil) and accidentally released? Or was it a natural mutation of a disease like Mad Cow where cannibalism made the animals sick? O:

And why would anyone worship the disease??? O____O It's sort of clear in MLP that they don't really have religion. They worship their princesses and instead take their name's in vain rather than a holy deity.

If they have purified ponies who are immune, can't the scientists and doctors use their genetics and DNA to create a preventative shot or a cure?

The skin and flesh fall off to the bone, and the blood circulation stops which is one of the causes of the death, also they can feel the pain which will give them a slow and painful death.

They don't know where the disease came from but they suggest it was made naturally and only affects the animals to be violent, the Ponies die from it.

The religion is just a bunch of crazy Ponies who think it's some kind of hidden god that has come down to wipe out Ponykind, and by worshiping it the good will allow them to live.

They're not really purified, that's just the name they call themselves. The Purified are a group of survivors that don't want to get infected and in order to do that is to kill everything but themselves.

I guess I should work on that, but seriously though what a great story.

Thank you. Oh and if you do get round to making the story could you credit me for inspiration and ideas, also when your done I would be very much honored to read it.

I stopped reading at skin starts to itch and fall off-

Though, that is highly unrealistic- a biological organism (such as a horse) can regenerate skin at a pretty fast pace,I would see it possible if it were to fall off like some kind of bacteria that's eating it, But scabs that form over human skin are just covering one layer of the skin- the dermis, which contains sweat, oil glands and hair follicles. To add onto that white blood cells would cling to the bacteria, slowing it down and giving the skin time to regenerate, or secluding it in a certain spot. If it were to flake off and dry, I can see that- with the bacteria/virus attacking possibly the kidneys and the spleen, as well as other glands in the body. Horses have also very rough and hard skin- I wouldn't see it being able to "flake" easily...

I didn't say it was going to be realistic. did I? No.

Sorry- I guess you could say I'm a bit of a realist (ha)

But whenever you add science to the mix-   it makes a horror 200 times better, not in thinking, but in writing it, it should be made into a skin eating bacteria that infects the body after breaching the skin and reaches the dermis

Do what ever you want mate. But I wasn't thinking this as a horror but more of an action packed thriller or something as there are no zombies but only groups of crazed survivors.

Are you writing this story?
