MLP G1 General Discussion

Because of the array of G1 threads we've been getting, why not.

Welcome to MLP G1 General Discussion, which is exactly what it says on the tin. No surprises here. Discuss the adventures of Galaxy, Firefly, Surprise, Applejack, Twilight, Twilight the Pegasus, Posey, and Moondancer, plus a bunch of other ponies I don't care to list.

Oh yeah. MEGANNN. DANNNY. MOLLLY. How did you get drunk enough to go into Equestria even if it was G1? Seriously, did you take a detour to the land of time lord level alcohol 100% approved by the Master? Tell us your secret.

So... yeahhhh. Discuss stuff. Talk about the cult of Smooze. Talk about how Tirek is an evil overlord who does a thing. I dunno. Have fun.

Ah, yes. I've watched a couple of episodes of G1 and I have to say it's not a bad show at all. It's just happens to be a bit dated is all but just because a show is a bit dated doesn't mean it's bad. I mean there are shows I liked back in the day like Spider-Man The Animated Series, Beast Wars and ReBoot that are by today's standards dated but not bad. I have to watch more of G1 sometime soon.

I've actually been meaning to watch G1(and maybe Tales) because it would good for the 80s nostalgia if nothing else(and yes, I'm only 21 and have that. It comes with shopping in pawnshops for most of my entertainment as a kid)

G1, alongside G2 and G3, and even G3.5 have elements that later were used on G4.

With the exception of the bad guys, they were SO much better on G1. Even the bullies from G2, at least they weren't as painfully annoying as Diamond Tiara, who's just a really bad done bully-like character.

And don't get me started with Nightmare Moon, Discord, Chrysalis or Sombra. Generic unoriginal clichéd villains who ment little to nothing.

G1 is still my favourite.

I also would like to note that while Smooze was the strangest, it was the strongest.

^^^ I personally adore all villains from all generations.

Tirek G1: He was freaky in the past and midly scary. And he had some cool lines.

Smooze: It's goo! And it doesn't make sense! But that's okay, I like the Smooze. The fact it doesn't make sense makes it even more fun!

Nightmare Moon: LUNNNAAA. Also, kickass backstory and badass armor/mane. A bit cliched personality and cheesy lines, and while not the strongest villain, she's still fun. And she's LUNNNNAAAA!

Discord: John De Lancie, original and likable concept, FLUTTERCORD SHIPFICS, ah yes, one of my favorite villains.

Chrysalis: GFKKFKFKFKKFK I LOVE HERRRR. Not as much as LUNNNA but still.

Sombra: He's a king! An evil king!

Gak: GAKAGAKGAKGAK

Sunset: Luv dat deesegin gurl!

Tirek G4: Energy! Throwbacks! Fun!

So yeah. I like G1 and G4, but I wouldn't say G4 has bad villains. Not saying G1 doesn't have good villains either.

@@Darker,

Yes, I was on my phone, so I couldn't mention you. And I kinda forgot about this post.

Sorry?

I forgive you.

Let me give you my opinion of your late post since I just found your response.

Beware, my next opinions may change your point of views towards certain characters you love.

Tirek G1: He was freaky in the past and midly scary. And he had some cool lines.

My favourite MLP villain, and still the most evil and most metal. He's a satanic archetype, who wants to corrupt everything in the world with his Rainbow of Darkness.

Also, he was so violent that the show had dramatic changes from that point. The animation studios never worked for Hasbro again, and the mature atmosphere lowered down a bit.

It's also fair to say that Victor Caroli, the very first narrator for the G1 Transformers voiced him, and that's awesome, because he has one of the most quiet yet creepy voices of all time.

Smooze: It's goo! And it doesn't make sense! But that's okay, I like the Smooze. The fact it doesn't make sense makes it even more fun!

Smooze was ment to be a symbol of destruction, as he is the most powerful villain in the MLP franchise, being absolutely invincible and immune to the Rainbow of Light, a weapon more powerful than the Elements or the Rainbow Power.

Also, it's pretty dark to see some ponies getting squashed and devoured by this mass of goo that expands the more it moves, which makes him still the most dangerous MLP creature. Giving it hours of expansion, it could have swallowed our planet. (Yes, us, humans, lived in the same world as the ponies.)

Nightmare Moon: LUNNNAAA. Also, kickass backstory and badass armor/mane. A bit cliched personality and cheesy lines, and while not the strongest villain, she's still fun. And she's LUNNNNAAAA!

Why not. Take away old Tirek's motivation just because Luna was feeling lonely. Also, aside from stealing one of Maleficent's lines, he does nothing. Gets defeated easily on the second part and supposed not even a minimum threat to the Mane 6. I think she's even more pathetic than Sombra.

Discord: John De Lancie, original and likable concept, FLUTTERCORD SHIPFICS, ah yes, one of my favorite villains.

Original? Discord is from a type of villains called reality warpers. There are thousands, much funnier and much more evil and powerful than Discord. The Superman franchise has Mr. Mxylzptlk, the DBZ franchise has Janemba and the Super Mario Bros. franchise has Dimentio.

Also, he's pretty much just a rip-off of Q from Star Trek. Both were played by John de Lancie. Both are magical, near-godly beings, both have the same personality, both do things easily just clicking their finger, both have apologised to their "loved" characters for something bad happened, both have reformed, and both are known to be chaotic. I'm not lying, Discord is just a bland rip-off.

And even as his own villain, he is pathetic beyond belief. He gets beaten the same way twice. I have NEVER seen a villain get beaten the same way with such ease. He's just a jerk who's not willing to harm anyone, just put some houses floating and that's it, but he's not damaging anyone.

Chrysalis: GFKKFKFKFKKFK I LOVE HERRRR. Not as much as LUNNNA but still.

Yeah, they just decided to take off the same plan Ursula from The Little Mermaid had and take off a similar army of Scar from the Lion King. VERY ORIGINAL.

I don't even think Meghan has read The Little Mermaid book.

Chryssy was at least more entertaining in the comics. Just as much cheesy and corny, but at least she did something evil there. But still, she also got defeated the same pathetic way as in the show.

Sombra: He's a king! An evil king!

A badly done Sauron rip-off inspired by a G1 villain, Grogar. Had potential, and Meghan wasted him.

Gak: GAKAGAKGAKGAK

What in hell is GAK?

Sunset: Luv dat deesegin gurl!

Pretty much. I agree with you.

Tirek G4: Energy! Throwbacks! Fun!

I was pretty disappointed with his revamped version... Just an Arabus (G1) rip-off who did almost nothing evil.

It's also fair to mention another G1 villains:

Lavan: He's awesome. The first time you see him surfin on a lava Tsunami you know he's going to be a threat. And he was. He becomes into and indestructible crystal monster near the end of the episode to the point where the only solution is killing him with the Rainbow of Light, which causes his body to literally explode.

http://fdzeta.com/subir/images/emaKg.png

Arabus: Basically he does everything what G4 Tirek did, only that his victims get so much weaker, to the point where they become almost insane and so skinny their skeletons are showing. They barely can get upstairs well. Arabus was also much more maniacal and intelligent than G4 Tirek. He used musical concerts to get the magic and shadows of the ponies, as he prefers to steal all your happiness in your best and most happy moment. He was nuts.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f143/chouhanwei/592px-Arabus.jpg

Grogar: A blue ram necromancer, he was sealed with his kingdom and his entire troll army into another dimension, for 500 years. After he returned he swore to seal EVERY single pony in Ponyland into that dimension forever. It's also fair to say that he was insanely powerful, to the point where he could steal and shut off the magic essence of the Unicorns, shutting off all the magic in their horns.

http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140203022845/villains/images/2/27/Grogar.jpg

There are others, but they way either redeemed, seeing how truly evil their actions were or they were just silly.

@@Darker,

The Gak is a running, and very bad joke from the Season 3 livestream. Just search it up on the internet.

I mostly agree with you, except on Discord, Chrysalis, and Luna. The main reason why I love Chrysalis is because of her psychology, I've always loved villains with interesting psychology. Chrysalis invaded Canterlot not to be evil but as a LAST RESORT. Her people were dying, and she needed love, and fast. And lookie at that really like and happy city up there! In the comics, I thought that she was pretty cool, especially her with the CMC scenes (Those were hilarious). I also find the whole concept of her and the changelings to be interesting.

Discord, while a bit cliche, is interesting in how he actually is the only villain that breaks the Mane 6 for a few minutes. He also gets reformed, so that's cool. The whole 'draconequus' idea is pretty nice too. Villains don't need to do terrible, terrible things and harm people to be good villains. (Even though he kind of completed mindfu*%ed the mane 6, that's gotta leave some scars) Heck, look at Homura Akemi. She didn't harm anyone (Besides the incubators, but it was off-screen and they freakin' deserved it) and she's still a badass (anti)villain. I kind of just imagine Discord as a prankster that doesn't care what happens to anybody, underestimates people because he's basically a god, and isn't really a villain. He just does his stuff and if he's labeled a villain what the hell, he's having fun.

Luna's psychology is interesting, if you read the comics. An entity called the Nightmare tempted Luna with power and kind of completely mind-controlled her into submission. Her mind is very interesting. While Nightmare Moon was pathetic in regards to threaty-ness, in the comics, the Nightmare possessed Rarity and made her take an evil, evil army and invade Ponyville. As for Luna being lonely, she was on the moon for 1,000 years, isolated. That must do wonders for your already addled mind.

I never really was a fan of Sombra, he was a Sauron rip-off. But he's still a king! An evil king!

I like Sunset Shimmer's design, but everything else stinks. No offense. She had potential and they wasted it.

Tirek G4 also sucked the magic out of every living being in Equestria which transformed them into freakin' zombies. That's pretty evil.

The G1 villains that you introduced me to are actually really cool. Thanks, I really like that Lavan dude.

Agreed on Chrysalis (kinda). They should have made her a bit more sympathetic. I didn't feel bad for her in the episode, and the scenes of her with the CMC were pretty funny actually.

The point where Chrysalis kills an animal in front of them was pretty cool.

Draconequus literally means "Horse Dragon". There is barely dragon or horse in Discord's anatomy. In a Rap Battle I've read about Discord vs Aku from Samurai Jack there's a good line that defines Discord very well.

"GREAT FLAMING EYEBROWS are my Sexiest Feature!

I’m not the one whose mother f*cked every living creature!"

And even though Discord psychologically mindfu*ked the Mane 6, many villains have done that, like HIM, from the Powerpuff Girls. I can't compare Discord to HIM, though. HIM is basically the Devil.

I don't really think the comics are canon. Those Nightmare forces were interesting, but when Nightmare Rarity appeared, everything went down. It was a stupid idea, Nigthmare Rarity looked imposing, but also ridiculous.

@@Darker,

That video was the trippiest shit I've seen all day.

Also, discord's head is a goat/horse, and he has a dragon (Or a bat pony) wing. And technically he has a dragon tail, but it could be a snake tail.

Nightmare Rarity did look ridiculous, and I found the way they actually beat NMR to be stupid. The Nightmare forces were pretty interesting and definitely the highlight of the comic arc. I consider the comics canon, but to each their own.

I think touching from G1 is a good way to bring in

some life to the show once more like they have

been and such!  Also shows the younger fans on

where the show came from and how it has changed!
