music What are your opinions on Slipknot? (Or metal in general)

Ummmm Slipknot isn't death metal, dude. But I like them, except I don't like their last album as much as the others.

If you look here, you will see they aren't death metal (look at the genres :P)

Yeah but still metal in general, woops :D hows about Motionless in white? they're quite good, i love the song "A.M.E.R.I.C.A" song, and the song "Burned at both ends"

Wait, hold the phone. Good sir, Bolt Thrower is death metal. Amon Amarth is death metal. Slipknot are merely heavy metal.

That being said, the only songs I've listened to from them are Snuff and Before I Forget, which were both decent. I'd prefer to listen to Riot or Anthrax over them either way.

(Also - heads up that I'm going to move this thread over to Media Discussion. The Debate Pit is a section more for current affairs/social issues.)

How's about Cannibal Corpse anyone? I'm pretty sure they are definitely Death. I love some of their songs, oh, and Like moths to flames too, although i don't think they are death, more heavy

Yeah, they're definitely death. Very good death too ;) I can never get enough of the track Monolith, or in fact the whole Vile album. I'd actually prefer Cannibal Corpse over Slipknot too, even though they're two completely different styles.

Yeah they are death metal. I'm not really a fan of them though, I'm not typically a fan of death metal. I don't particularly like the vocals in death metal or other related genres like deathcore. I like a bit of melodic death metal though.

I personally don't like Slipknot, and I don't like labelling music either. A good song is a good song. I listen to trance/house, classical, jazz and metal. I've been to festivals like Download/Sonisphere and also Creamfields/Tomorrowland. It's all good.

Anyway to stop myself going offtopic too much, my three favourite metal-genre bands are Children of Bodom, Ensiferum and Wintersun. I've seen them all live and they are absolutely fantastic. I prefer this style of metal to the Slipknot-esque drop-A tuned growlyness. :D

I only listened to the one album that had Before I Forget on it and a couple other songs. I like their sounds but I'm generally more of a power, symphonic and melodic death kind of guy.

You can probably see there's something of a pattern in the types of metal I listen to. Slipknot doesn't fit much into them but that doesn't mean I don't like them. I like most kinds of metal anyway.

When it comes to metal, I like listening to multiple genres and not just limiting myself to one style. My favorite metal genres are probably progressive metal, metalcore, thrash metal, alternative metal, and just regular heavy metal.

I dislike Slipknot.  I was never really into their music.

I do love heavy metal music though.   From folk metal to black metal to power metal, I love it all.  I actually had an account on Yahoo! Answers where I was called "That Metal Guy".  Now that brings back memories, haha.  I'm big into folk metal and doom metal right now actually.

I like Slipknot, but honestly they grew pretty tiring after a while.  I still really like Snuff and Psychosocial, but I'm not that big a fan of the other songs.

I love metal though.  It's my favorite genre.

I'm a huge fan of metal, but don't like Slipknot, Korn or any of those 90's nu-metal bands. They don't even register in the same genre in my mind, as they are more pop-ish. My favorite metal band (or band in general) would be Nevermore (they broke up though) and I am a big fan of trash and black metal, especially symphonic black, although I have favorites in pretty much every metal subgenre.

Yeah I like Slipknot. Haven't been able to listen to all of their songs but the ones that I have listened to I rather enjoyed.

As far as Metal goes, I love both it and all of its many sub-genres. At the moment I'm in a Metalcore, Screamo, Death Metal kind of mood, I've been listening to Parkway Drive for around three hours now. For any melodic death metal fans I heavily recommend that you try Parasite Inc. out, they're very good.

I also once in awhile listen to Job For a Cowboy... Man, it's total deathcore!

I don't really like Slipknot, I'm not a fan of death metal, it's just not for me. Some metal is good in my opinion, I mostly prefer thrash over other sub genres of metal.

Yeah, I mostly perfer thrash. Songs that are only total-on screamo kind of get tiring after awhile. But that's just me.

I personally prefer Trash Metal,but i'm a death metal fan too,and i like it's music a lot :P

If someone does not like Death Metal when they haven't listened to it before, it's really pathetic.

Where I live, everyone listen Dubstep and all that electronic music.

I don't like it,but i don't say nothing.The thing changes when i put something i like,moment that i don't stop from receiving critics,and here comes the joke:They never listened a full death metal song,or any metal song -_-

Those critics might want to listen to it more.

I hate Slipknot and bands which play similar music. I like death metal and almost every gener of metal (thrash is the best for me), but I can't stand Slipknot ^^ and I don't know exacly why.

Also, I don't like their image, their masks are awful. And I can't understand why in this band is so many memebrs.
