How does a pony get to become a princess?

I would like too know how do ponies earn there rank too become princess's and also can you tell me the   main princess's in mlpfim on how they earned too become a princess and became a alicorn.

I think that the first test is that they have to magic specialists in some way or form.

 

Most of the pony world works because of magic, so knowing and wanting to be able to study and also being good at it is important.

 

I think then from this, you get chosen at a young age and then an eye kept on you to make sure that you have the right hearth (ie sunset shimmer didn't and in the end she did not become a princess).

 

Then if all of these things are in your favour then princess with push you harder and further until she things your ready to become one

Well the only princess we know for certain right now is Princess Twilight, and she achieved her princess status through Celestia. 

 

But for the other 3 princess' it's not really known. It has been kind of wide-spread fandom believed Princess Celestia and Luna were Alicorn and princess' from birth. They are rulers of the entire land of Equestria, so it was granted to them through their mother and father the king and queen. 

 

As for Princess Cadence, I don't know if she really has a solid story as to why she's a princess. Though a story I liked about her is that Celestia chose her to be a princess young, knowing she'd be Twilight's foal sitter and really put her on the right track to get Twilight to strive in her magic and set the way to her becoming a princess herself.

This ponysona is acctulay a ponyfied version of me i should of said that too you and the one with headset is my friend's second ponysona too make me and her look like twin's and my ponyfied shelf know's how too fly.

Cadence, in the book Crystal Heart Spell, was shown to have a dense knowledge of love and was able to use that knowledge to help ponies.

 

Twilight, as we know from Magical Mystery Cure, mastered the magic of friendship and showed that she was a true leader. We also get the sense that she was destined to become a princess because her Cutie Mark was so central to the Tree of Harmony.

 

As far as the sisters, I don't believe they were born as Alicorns and instead ascended by talking control of the sun and moon; this may have happened due to an external threat they faced.

 

I think the thread that binds the princess's is that they take something with in every pony love and friendship (the sisters are harder to explain) and transcend it and master it beyond normal. That's why the Mane 5 will never be princess because they will never be more than a component of the Magic of Friendship. Twilight literally is friendship.

It also seems like they have to transcend a universal emotion like love or friendship. The problem with Celestia and Luna is that Hearth's Warming Eve put limits on them. They weren't mentioned (were they alive?) and what they do was already done by the Unicorns, but on mass of course. Twilight and Cadence seem to be the first to do what they did. Before I heard that Cadence was originally a Pegasus (I haven't read that story and still don't know exactly how it goes), I assumed only unicorns became Alicorns, and my theory was based on a book I read when I was younger (not at all pony-related). In that story, every person is born with one extremely specific type of magic - often a useless, mundane, immaterial type of magic, but magic nonetheless. The only people allowed in positions of power were those people whose one talent was extremely powerful (creating storms, changing beings into other things, being able to divine any knowledge, making inanimate objects speak). 

 

So basically, I assumed that even though all unicorns (yes, my theory is very ... exclusive of the other pony races) have magic, only unicorns with truly powerful, effective magic could become alicorns. Which seems to fit Celestia, Luna, Twilight, and Cadence.

 

But as I said, this falls apart if Cadence first being a Pegasus is true. And it's pretty elitist.

I think you would have to be a unicorn with powerful magic that is very effective when you're in battle, and possibly that they learned a lesson in their lives that allowed them to ascend. That's my theory on how I see it.
