In that situation, I'm almost sure that I would rather be killed than kill someone else

First of all, I wouldn't have the guts to kill a human being...hell, I couldn't kill an animal

Second, what would living really do for me? I'm sure no matter what I said, law enforcement would only focus on the fact that I had killed someone and ergo I'd be spending a lot of time in jail

I don't think I'm a very good person but I doubt I could kill. In a situation like this, I'd probably panic and get shot weather I wanted to kill or not. I would be much too scared to think or react at all, probably.

But if the intended question was would I kill a stranger to save my own life... yeah, I probably would, and I think most people would do the same. I wouldn't be proud of it, but I value my own life more than someone I've never met before.

I also would choose my own life in such a situation. I find it funny how many people dodged the question by saying they would find another way out of the situation, even though they knew what you really meant. If they were really sure of their honour they would just answer that they would rather die.

I don't even meet my own moral standards in non extreme situations so I don't hold out much hope here for moral integrity either way 😂

The real question would be whether I valued my life enough at that given moment to consider doing such a thing, as I'm averse to causing loss of life in most scenarios. But I don't like to ponder extreme hypotheticals because you can't really know how you would necessarily react in such extreme situations. I wouldn't be opposed to killing the attacker but whether I could practically pull off such a thing is up in the air.

I have to say though, I don't believe true pacifists exist. Everyone has a breaking point where they would commit violence even if for self preservation, the real question is what it would take to unlock that part of them hidden out of sight of ordinary life. Our more sheltered lifestyles and conditioning enable us to continuously deny the existence of those aspects of us, but there they are, lurking dormant in the shadows.

I think that killing is such a major violation of my moral compass that I wouldn't be able to do it even with my life at risk. My moral compass is and has always been incredibly strong and deeply held that if I violated it like that I'm pretty sure I'd end up very mentally unstable from then on, so it wouldn't be a way to live for me anyway.

Your hypothetical situation depends. If you hand me a gun and say kill this random innocent person or die. I’d personally try to kill you. The person forcing me to try to kill someone else. If I’m dying regardless, because Im not killing an innocent person, I’d prefer to go down by taking you with me. 

But if it’s a hey kill this person who has done this extremely terrible crime or you die. Wellll. I value myself more than someone who lets say murdered a child for example. So in that case. Bye. I’ll shoot the other person to live. Am I going to feel great about it? No even if I do convince myself I’m getting justice for the kid the person killed. Although going after you, the person forcing me into this situation, is still top priority even if I do shoot this other person in this case.

This is what made the saw movies so interesting despite them being hard for me to watch because they put people in these awful situations. Really it’s like what would you do

to be completely fair, i know there is also a limit to everything, so I guess it'd be situational as well :3

as far as the situation provided, if I were given a firearm and told to kill someone, id brandish it towards whoever is threatening me. idk if id shoot them but id certainly try to scare them off. maybe id unload the firearm, idk uwu
