gaming A game that you used to love, but dislike now

Has anyone ever had a game that you actually used to love as a child, but grew up and realize it was...probably the dumbest game ever?

Mine would have to be Billy Hatcher and the Giant egg.

Ring a bell anyone?

Well, I know some people might have enjoyed this game -.- but, I did, until I grew up and kind of regret playing it. I just now realize how awful it is. Its just a weird game over all and...it makes NO sense, 4 speechless kids wearing chicken suits, hatching eggs with weird creatures and being attacked by villainous crow "things" seem weird to me. Sure, a lot of good games are...weird, but this is a bad weird to me :/ I just find this game weird now.

Well.............I know a lot of people will bash me for this one but............Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy.

Kingdom Hearts - Great story, especially Birth By Sleep, however, after watching the cutscenes on the 3DS game of Dream Drop Distance...........it just went completely downhill.  Way too childish.

Final Fantasy - After beating X-2, I said that I was done and will never go back to playing FF again.   Way too long, and the story is too slow.  If only we had the option to create our own character, then i would go back (i think that the windows ver had that feature, but refused to get it due to monthly fee, i believe).

Hey, now, why you knockin' Billy Hatcher? That game's awesome! Ah, well. I think mine may have beeeeen... Club Penguin was one, as it is for many. Destroy All Humans doesn't pass the test of time very well either.

Anything from the Sonic series.

It used to be fun, but after 5-10 years, it got to be too stale for me...

Same with GH/RB. Though, I will stand by and say that The Beatles: Rock Band was my most favourite of the lot!  :P  :yay:

But other than that, I can't think of much else...

I don't think I've ever found a game that I liked then disliked. I've had games where I notice flaws more now than before(like Megaman X6), but if I like a game, I'm probably gonna stay liking it

Shadow the Hedgehog

I remember really liking that game, and wanting to basically be like Shadow. But then I realized it was horrible.

One game was Crash Bandicoot The Wrath of Cortex for the Playstation 2. Nowadays, I feel like it's trying way too hard to emulate the feel of the classic Crash series of the PS1.

Some games just aren't as good as you remember :/

I used to love Call of Duty: Black Ops II, until I learned that the game had a lot of problems with it even when its predecessor was able to handle better than it did.

I agree.......currently im playing COD: Ghosts, but I gave up on it for a short time, due to lags.

OT: I forgot to add, I gave up on Medal of Honor, pretty much after Rising Sun........that's b/c after that, most of MOH games involved modern/current wars.   Wars from the past were pretty interesting.

I feel bad for Medal of Honor, they should have not went downhill. Thanks a lot, EA.

Yeah......definitely after European Assault, if im not mistaken, it had that "EA is taking this slowly downhill", type of thing.

EA usually has the downhill pattern with most of their games.

Yeah. If i recall when they released NightFire, it was a great story, but the gameplay was just...........ugh.  It seems to me that EA is focused more on Sports, so any other game genre they try to do, results in a wreck.

Halo. I liked it from 2007 to 2009, then I played Half-Life, found it to be so much better in every way and never looked back at Halo ever again. I found it easier to care for the characters, Gordon Freeman to be more of a badass than Master Chief (inb4 Promethean Alicorn) if only because he's a mute scientist that was forced to learn how to use a gun beyond his will because of an accident during an experiment at Black Mesa leading to a Resonance Cascade opening up the border world, Xen, and unleashing creatures from Xen into the human world and the gunplay to be much more... thrilling. It's not slow like in Halo, it's rather fast-paced. Oh, and Half-Life requires you to think while Halo is basically go from point A to point B.

Another is Call of Duty. World at War was wicked good, but then Infinity Ward began fucking over PC gamers (I was converting to the PC in 2009, when Modern Warfare 2 came out), telling them that they "didn't need" mods, dedicated servers, FOVs beyond 65 (seriously, try playing a game with a 65 FOV on a monitor, where you're closer to the screen than the average TV - you'll be motion sick in no time!), high-res textures and numeric ping values. Then I bought Black Ops in 2010 as my last CoD game and didn't even beat it because it was so bad. Like... ugh. So boring and predictable.

I kinda work the opposite way. There's a lot of games I used to not like when I was younger, then I go back to them years later and I suddenly find an appreciation for them.

Makes for a much better time imo. Over time I've somehow created a mindset where every game is enjoyable. Every. Single. One.

Except like...Sentinal Returns. That game should have been PC, it doesn't work on consoles. Maybe then it'd be relatively enjoyable.

It really comes down to the fact that if I can find even one thing I like about a game I will enjoy the game for that one thing. Then eventually I start liking other aspects of it that I was apathetic to before.

There's honestly very few things that a video game can do that will make me dislike it. There's just things I like and things I don't pay attention to. Which is more apathy than dislike.

Roblox. An online game where you make games or places out of virtual "lego" like pieces, and people can play in them. It was amazing in its early days, but then after 2009, it went downhill. The community got worse, and the game updates were unmemorable. In December 2010, I had enough of the game and quit it. I go on there every year to see how it is doing. for 3 years it was the same. and then in 2014 its getting a tad bit better, but that could be just me. Good things don't last forever. Whenever I play a game on there, there isn't that same feeling of pleasure as I did back in 2007 - 8. Those were its glory days. It had a very intelligent community, well made places, even with the then technical limitations of the game. And most importantly, circle studded bricks. Roblox got a letter from LEGO saying that the circle studs infringed on the LEGO brand, so they changed it to square after 2008. This is also at the time where the updates were very good. There is a project that uses a LUA script (yes you can program in this game) to bring back functionality in older game clients called rblxdev. I tried to use it with a buddy and it worked, but he couldn't spawn. I've heard that the physics in the older versions are better. There were these tech demos that admin "John Shedletsky" would put on his YouTube page that had a surreal frame rate. Its like they were running it on a supercomputer. And all we got was a bogged down version of what they were working with. here is the video of the physics demo. I would make a few crappy places on there, and they would get alot of hits when I was gone. These days its a popularity contest. Its not worth it for me to go on really bad games that people have "made". And I mean made as in they didn't even make it themselves. They just arrange free models that other people have made and call it a game they made. The two things that I got out of the game is the desire to program, and my username sonicdude558. Which is apparently what my sister came up with 6 years ago in January 2008, when I made another roblox account.

Oh my god, Billy Hatcher! I loved that game! Ahh, the good memories ~

Anyway, the closest game that I could say I went from loving to hating, is James Bond 007 Nightfire. But my dislike has nothing to do with the game not being fun, I actually liked the game, it's just that my cousin and sister absolutely loved the game. Now, you have to understand that, while I did like the game, there were many other games I wanted to play with them more like Super Smash Bros. and Soul Calibur II, etc. I got so tired of them hogging what was arguably my Gamecube, playing games I didn't want to play, that I took Nightfire and scribbled all over the disk with a pen (secretly, of course). Yeah, it was super childish but I was really, really fed up about it.

But I don't think that answers the question being asked. Honestly, most of the old games I used to love, like Final Fantasy VIII, I like better as a fond memory. Generally, when I go back to play those old games some, and sometimes most, of the luster has faded. It's never been so bad that I disliked the game though.

Maybe Sonic Adventure 2.

I've played that game so much recently, I just kind of hate playing it now.

It's crazy, it used to be one of my all time favorites.

Mario Party Advance.

I got it on my ninth birthday as a gift and absolutely loved it back then. By that point of childhood, I had discovered the internet, looked it up out of curiosity, and was baffled to see that it got less than favorable reviews. I got sick of it at one point though, and nowadays, I understand why a lot of people didn't like it.

That's really the only game I can think of though besides Tetris (sorry to any and all fans, but it's not aged well for me). I'm a much bigger fan of growing to love stuff I used to dislike to be honest. :P
