MarketWatch: Hasbro Named as a 2014 World’s Most Ethical Company by the Ethisphere Institute for Third Year

Global branded play leader Hasbro, Inc. today announced that it has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, an independent center of research promoting best practices in corporate ethics and governance, as a 2014 World’s Most Ethical Company®.

. . .

This is the third time that Hasbro, home to globally popular brands including MY LITTLE PONY, MONOPOLY and PLAY-DOH, has been honored with this award, which recognizes organizations that continue to raise the bar on ethical leadership and corporate behavior.

. . .

Through the company's deep commitment to corporate social responsibility, including philanthropy, Hasbro is helping to build a safe and sustainable world for future generations and to positively impact the lives of millions of children and families every year.

Now that's just rubbing it in. Maybe it isn't a coincidence, since we're all well aware of their true form.

Which company isn't like that though?

They are just less evil, so they are most ethical!

Jokes aside-

The only reason they gave Jans C&D's was because he was making money off of his projects, which violates copyright, so they had to do that, otherwise they would lose their rights. I say though, Hasbro has been a pretty good company, making shows which are equally good and advertises their toys in a minimal fashion.

I have been following the whole thing but didn't know it was due to him making money off his videos. In that case I agree with you, while it still may suck they had to protect their copyright.

This is the full list.

I gave it a look and I found something interesting... Banco do Brasil and Natura Cosm...

Yeah... Right. The first is a bank 70% owned by brazilian government and involved in all sorts of banking secrecy breaks and some money laundering schemes, election scams up to the Senate.

The second is a cosmetics company that has all sorts of inclusion programs and pretty TV commercials. It's a shame I can't find some old articles about Natura, involving exploitation of some poor "Ribeirinhos", people living in the margins of rivers, specially in the brazilian state of Pará.

I don't know about Hasbro and other companies, but on the brazilian side, this is looking bad. Or maybe I just don't really know the meaning of "ethical" anymore.

For dumb, self-important fics about mythology, ponies and fascist griffons that can't figure friendship out.

And I'm just getting started.

Well as mentioned above it's all relative! Or in other terms a least evil contest.

Not true. In fact it doesn't violate copyright law as it falls under the fair use category for the most part. Jans themselves said they could probably win the case in court, but it wasn't worth the hassle as it would take forever and Hasbro would do everything in their power to drain their funds with court costs and such.  It was easier to just take the videos down instead of pursuing a lengthy court battle

Well they cant make money off of advertising if he makes a video with those characters in it that belong to hasbro without permission, and thats what they did. I know this for a fact because youtube has delisted a video made by me using copyrighted content on it........

Most YouTube copyright take downs are done by automated bots which detect "copyrighted material" and automatically remove it, even if it falls under fair use. That's probably why your video was removed

I'm kind of interested to hear how an animation that uses the exact same style of animation, is written around a character created by Hasbro and also incorporates other characters created by Hasbro, takes place in a unique setting created by Hasbro, and in no way comments on or satirizes it's source material is "fair use".

You guys sure like to toss that term around a lot.

It is considered a "parody", therefor it falls under fair use. JanAnimations could fight the case but they don't feel it's worth it because of the long legal process it would require, as explained in this statement by ShadyVox

Explain to me how it is a "parody" when it offers no comment or satire of it's source material.

It's not "fair use" if you profit on other peoples IP (intellectual property) or copyrights in any way shape or form. Donations are one thing but to profit is another. A company has the right to protect their property as the see fit (in a legal manner and within the law)

To be honest Hasbro has been letting us off with a lot of stuff

Not always true. The Supreme Court declared that "parody can be used as potential fair use, even when done for profit" in several court cases, including Campbell v. Acuff-Rose

How many of you would like to see all businesses go non-profit, double everyone's wages and give the rest to charity? Just wondering.

So some sort of socialistic type of economy? No thanks nothing but disaster down that road.

Don't derail the topic to politics because if you want to know capitalism hasn't done any better. In fact i consider it worse.

Oh I'm not suggesting it. Just asking for a show of hands.

I've never been fully clear on why people hate profit so much. Or why they think they do.

The worst they've done was two C&D compared to what other companies pull. I'm not calling Hasbro saints or anything, but at least their not EA

I find it disturbing how everyone sees hasbro as evil incarnate. Maybe if YOU ran a multi milion dollar company you would have a different view.

Hasbro might not be perfect but they're far from ''the worst thing in the world'' and the bronybane

That still doesn't explain how it was a parody. Walk me through it. Explain to me in what ways it was a parody.
