technology Question About Getting a New Phone.

Here's the deal, my current phone finally starting to slow-down from what I assume is wear and tear on the parts(it's a Galaxy Axiom), and I have a opportunity to "upgrade" to one of the older S3s(the 16GB with the Dual Core CPU) essentially for free with all the reward points I've saved up, is it worth it?

If it's dual core then it's not the S3 but the S3 mini, and I'm sorry as someone who used to have the galaxy s3 mini I'd have to say no. If you need a new phone go for the Motorola Moto g. Its quad core and it's cheap! In fact I have a HTC one and a Moto G and I have to say I prefer the Moto G!

The regular S3 still performs great to this day, it's what my sister uses and whenever I have to toy with it to upgrade Android or something, I don't notice any slow down. Sure it's slower then my Note 3, but it's still a great phone. And with Android 4.4 update due soon, it should be even better.

In the UK they only released the quad core edition. I wonder why companies like Samsung do that?

It's because of the mobile networks and what the chips are compatible with. Same reason my Note 3 uses a snapdragon 800 rather then the Exynos octa core or whatever.

Yes, but it's getting on a bit now. As I said before, for value for money, you can't beat the Moto G. Cheap, and you get stock Android.

Holo Launcher HD (what I use) or Nova (but the free version kinda sucks)

Clean Master (great for the occasional cleaning)

Jane Wilde (great shooter game, made by us Serbs )

Stun Gun Free (to fuck with your friends xD)

That's the case here, it's the phone I'm looking at because I have enough reward points with my carrier to get it for free(I try to not pay a lot for phones and go the "get a your phone either cheap or for free" specials because I don't see phones as something that I end up using long-term enough to spend a lot of money on. I don't think I've ever kept using the same phone for more than two years because I prefer to NOT use them until they break so I have back-ups.

Very. Very clear. You also get SAMOLED screen technology, which gives way clearer colors and actually has real black. Viewing angles are good too, also the screen is sharper than the Axiom (306 vs 233 pixels per square inch) you get better camera and everything.

Personally, I don't care about the phone being bleeding edge as long as it's nice and has decent enough specs to use enjoyably. The main thing is that I like having a decent screen and camera because I'm one of those people that like taking picture and funny and interesting things to post online.

Dude, stop discouraging my friend here from getting the S3. The Moto G will be dumped pretty soon, it will lose the stock Android and get Lenovo's UI (Lenovo bought Motorola from Google a couple of months ago). The S3 has still a bit left in its tank and will get 4.4 soon while Moto will get jack shit.

Hey I just dislike Samsung products.

I brought the S4 on contract last year, but the plastic build is just so tacky I ended up selling it and getting a HTC one instead. Which is a much better phone with an aluminium body.

The One is shit. Overhyped. Especially with that awesome 4 MP camera! And HTC Sense Fugly interface.

 

I am really liking Nokia though, the Lumia series is really getting good, but the X... underwhelming. The 3MP camera just is the cherry on top of the shit cake.

Yes, but the USA and the UK will never get the Nokia X. It was designed for developing countries and will only cost around $80. And by the way, the HTC one rocks! The only reason why I use the Moto g more is because its unlocked.

There are a lot of things that are over hyped on phones, and honestly the specs they are coming out with are not needed in a phone. I will say the only thing I like about the HTC One is the front facing speakers.

 

Each person has their preferences. External looks of the phone are absolutely the least important thing to me since it normally goes straight into a case. Plastic, metal, glass, it all resells for more if it's not scratched up and a case makes the thing personal.

Same here, I've used some ugly-ass electronics because they work awesome and have good specs. As long as it not some absurd design choice that interferes with the using the phone(or it's beyond absurdly ugly to the point "what the hell") looks don't bother me.

1: What am I planning on using this phone for?

2: does it meet my needs for the phone?

I got the S3(they had a white one and I bought a heavy-duty case as well because I don't really trust carrying around a larger size smart-phone un-protected, even if it does have Gorilla glass) It seems to be working great so far.

One of my rl friends has a Galaxy S3 on AT&T, and I can attest to it having a good screen. It's not nearly as sharp as my Nokia Lumia Icon's 5" 1080p display (441 pixels per inch!), but it's still a pretty respectable screen. This friend, however, doesn't really like the phone itself and constantly complains to me about it.

 

...however, I can see that I was a bit late posting in here, so hopefully you got a better S3 than my friend did. Enjoy!

Ballistic cases are nice. I normally use Speck though since I switched to the Galaxy Note line. I was going to recommend an iloome tempered glass screen protector (seriously bada$$ and not as daunting to install as you'd think), but sadly they no longer make the S3 ones. The invisible shield screen protector is a great investment though if you worry about that. Go case friendly HD version if they have it for the S3. I tend to worry about my screens more than the backs since they are plastic and replaceable.

 

Also, where did you find that wallpaper?

I've been working on getting everything back on so I all kinds of completed downloads XD

 

I plan to grab some screen protectors, I tend to use cheapos that i can replace easily because my covers tend to get dirty and scraped up quick,  

 

 

It's a really old piece of fanart(early 2012, I think) called "Innocence", I've used it on most of my phones because it just looks so damn pretty on a good quality phone screen due to the vibrant(yet soft and cool) colors:
