ofc. but only if the tie up the loose ends with the current mane 6. if they were just introduced out of thin air for no reason then no.

Would characters that the mane six used to know meet up and become friends and Twilight's "Acquaintance"(like maybe a former classmate) wants to introduce her to them and Twilight decides to bring her friends and they all recognize each other be out of thin air?

Yes. Slowly introducing new characters and retiring old characters is a good way to keep a show fresh and interesting. However, it's very rare for Western cartoons to follow that method successfully. When they try, it rarely occurs 'naturally' and feels like it's forced and jarring.

No. No, no, no. No.

Sorry, but I've grown really attached to these six. I never really expected to like the show, but I do, and I think these characters are the main reason behind that. If they ever retire any of them I would be furious.

No, I like the mane six and all the other characters we have right now. I would hate if they replaced any of them. A spin-off with a completely different cast would be pretty cool though. Maybe even have it set in an area outside of equestrian.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?

No.  That only works when there are serious issues with a show and it needs retooling, or for some reason or another one of the original cast members becomes unavailable.

Seriously, why do people feel the need to change the show up when there is nothing wrong with the show as it is?

We got the Mane 6 but they are not the only Main Characters. I see Celestia and Shining Armor as main characters as well. But since there are 6 elements of harmony, it would be impossible to introduce another into the Mane 6.

As long as their equally likeable, and equally relatable, why not?

"Oh look, there's our friend Rarity GOING DOWN IN FLAMES!!! ISN"T FRIENDSHIP MAGIC!!!?" -Tabitha St. Germain as Rarity

"No matter how many times others tell you you're great, all the praise in the world means nothing if you don't feel it inside.......Sometimes to feel good about yourself, you gotta let go of the past. That way, when the time comes to let your greatness fly, you'll be able to light up the whole sky." -Cathy Weseluck as Spike

The show already has a set dynamic between the current Mane 6, and the writers have had notorious trouble trying to fit all of the Mane 6 + Spike in the same episode, but I'd be open to it if the character had a well thought-out backstory and had the potential to become a likable and relatable character on the level of the other characters.

Part of my problem with Spike this season (and arguably in past episodes as well) is his treatment as a comedic prop despite the fact that many of the other characters have had at least one strong episode this season, and it also seems to be exceptionally good to the Crusaders (similar in age to Spike). A one-note portrayal such as that is an example of how to do it wrong. Additionally, any avoidable contrivances must be, well, avoided. After all, Antony C and Tommy Oliver told us in 30 minutes how that could've been done in "A Canterlot Wedding".

How to do it right is to introduce the character in a relatively small role, interacting with the Mane 6/Spike/Crusaders in a constructive, developmental way (like most of the "key" characters have been this year), then begin expanding on personality traits and relationships with other characters, keeping in mind to balance comedic writing and serious writing. Many of the lower episodes this season have been absent such a balance.

If they made some sort of spin-off of this one but kept the mane 6 and FiM going, I would probably watch it.  But if they just changed the main characters I would probably blow a fuse and quit watching.

If a new cast was to really happen I'd probably try accept it, given the original mane 6 have supporting roles and the new cast doesn't come completely out of nowhere. With a new cast they could probably try some new things, but the original mane 6 would be hard to live up to.

Once all of the main characters have reached their prime and there's not a whole lot left they can do in terms of character development that wouldn't be a bunch of rehashed garbage (which the "five years of MLP" announcement kind of guarantees), I'd welcome the introduction of a new cast. Right now, they've got too much to do with the Mane Six and introducing a new set of main characters leaves less room for them to work on what they've got.

No, I wouldn't like the idea if they just threw in six more characters out of thin air to replace our current lovable cast.

Maybe if they started exploring stories of the background ponies, it would be very interesting.

They could introduce a female guardian pony who is given the duty to be Princess Twilight Sparkle's bodyguard. She's rough around the edges and tough. Takes her duty seriously. Completely immune to Pinkie Pie's antics.
