After watching the Babs con writers panel I can understand what Meghan said.

 

Rarity is a adult and Spike is a baby dragon.

 

I mean I like when Spike goes   on Rarity in the early episodes.

(Still   when Rarity kissed Spike when he gave her the Fire Ruby in season 2)

 

They have an understanding of each other.

 

Look at Season 4 episodes both were in.

 

Spike is still there to support her no matter what.

 

Its called devotion.

IMO, the events of The Cutie Mark Chronicles were about 10 years before the pilot.  Thus, Secret of My Excess was Spike's 11th birthday.  Rarity is about 10 years older (give or take).  It's not too uncommon for kids that age to have a crush on someone older.  The scene at the end where Spike is about to tell Rarity how he feels & she stops him shows she already knows how he feels.

 

Dog & Pony Show, Dragon Quest  show she cares deeply for him, but more as a little brother than romantically.

Spike being too young for Rarity notwithstanding (and I stand by that; he's too young for her), there is such a thing as a half-dragon race in fantasy. It's strange, and defies logic, but it does exist in almost any fantasy setting out there.

As a result of this incident, I'd just observed in the show, specifically in Season 6, that Spike is now always gazing with Rarity and a very little bit conversation. And as usuall, Spike is always with Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer.

 

And in EG Friendship Games, Spike is always with Twilight Sparkle. What a change happened to the cute-ass-crush-and-friend-zoned couple.

 

Please respect my opinion, okay? I'm a Sparity hater.

I am actually for love happening in the show, but this? I never understood the point. I mean, pony, dragon, how is the love-blender supposed to process that properly? I don't think it can, so I never understood the point of anything beyond that Spike finds Rarity cute. That is enough for me. Anything beyond that, pointless.

(Instead of our lovely "Spike The Brave and Glorious The Dragon" ).

  

Starlight Glimmer considers only Spike (The Dragon) and Twilight as her friends (the rest of the cast had not bonded with her yet).

She has better chances of developing a relationship with Spike that Rarity will ever had; because she treats him with respect [even as a villain, she answered with sincerity a question about her past while looking him directly to the eyes].

  

While Rarity considered him completely superfluous [a mere "attachment" of Twilight] since the begining: 

Spike: "Ugh, I told you, I don't want any part of this girly gala gunk. See you back at the library."

Rarity: [laughs] "Oh, who needs him anyway."

As I said, I never expect full-on romance, that'd be silly in a show like FIM (BUT GREAT).

Just little hints of mutual affection, just like they've been doing ever since Secret Of My Excess.

That is enough to support Sparity.

I don't like the 'ship either, but Spike's ageing/physical maturity is based on his amassed hoard of treasure, not the passage of time.

Rarity is, from what we can tell, a fully grown pony, and Spike is essentially a child. They would never have an actual relationship in the show. While I suppose the pairing of their personalities is a bit cute, that's never going to happen in the show. At least there is fanfiction for all of your Spaity shippers.
