Do you like serious fan fiction or silly fan fiction?

A serious fan fiction, tend to be dark and explore real life problems. Can be sad.

Silly fan fiction, tend to be nonsensical, like Rarity falls in love with Zoidberg or the dark lord Justin Bieber wants to take over Equestria.

Rarity falls in love with Zoidberg

But my name isn't Zoidberg :(

In all seriousness, I like fanfictions that aren't just...goofy, you know? :D

I read them for the story, and I don't just want to invest myself in a story with a low story quality. While some find poor writing humorous, I don't - that's not my style. Humor can be pulled off while maintaining the quality of a story, as evidenced by one of my favorite fanfics "Buzzkill" :D

I like both I have read fanfic running the gammit from this heart wrenching story where Diamond Tiara dies in a carriage accident and the CMC's reactions to her death to that infamous gorefic where Pinkie Pie murders ponies and bakes them into cupcakes, romances, to tons of comedy fics to even a few WTF random fics like this one where Dr Robotnik tried to rape ponies with "robot pingases" (not normally into that but that fic was hilarious) to every character you can think of getting trolled mercilessly in the series Know Your Mare.  Interestingly enough though I have several ideas for fanfics myself but almost all of them are comedies. There is one idea I have where Rarity gets a cockroach infestation and another one where the Apple Family goes into the guano business because of the over abundance of guano at Sweet Apple Acres thanks to the vampire fruit bats and this other idea where Twilight learns a money duplication spell that ends up getting out of hand by causing a hyper inflation crises in Equestria similar to the one in Duckberg in the episode Dough Ray Me when Huey, Duey and Luey used this duplication machine to continuously duplicate their allowance. So I like to read both but in terms of writing, writing comedy fics is so much fun though it is often hard to write stuff without busting out laughing.

I will usually read anything that catches my eye. I ready goofy fanfictions like "The Death of Button Mash" and then switch to something tragic like "The Assassination of Twilight Sparkle". As long as it catches my eye with a good summary, I'll at least read the first chapter. :squee:

Depends on what I'm in the mood for. I like both serious and funny fics. I'm in the middle of writing a rather serious one, but then I'd like to do something more in the same tone as the show itself.

I like serious fan fics, tbh.  Gives it more action, suspense, adventure, etc. and currently, I'm writing a serious fan fic, with a mix of action, adventure, suspense, and science fiction.  (I can go on forever on what I like to write fan fics for).

Fanfics filled with lulz and hilarity, added with plenty of surrealism, make my day.

However, some fanfics that are not hilarious at least are fine with me: especially if the quality is good ...

I've never much cared for fan-fictions which fall outside the scope or context of actual show-like qualities.

I remember reading some which play out like large/long scale episodes or like Equestria girls, where the content remains pretty consistent as best a show-viewer would imagine it; the sort of thing an episode might actually be made about.

I've read some which were more like Pony-branded sitcoms or action-adventures, which really don't mesh in my mind so they lose appeal almost immediately. Great example, Keeping It Simple which is about Big Macintosh. It plays out fine for the most part, but then I winced when it described actually serious consideration of gambling, and then I immediately stopped reading after the chapter where it gives a pretty friendly and ideal-sounding discussion on a bleak and nihilistic view of death, which I found very disturbing.

Well, for me it depends what kind of a mood I'm in, if I am sad I will probably read a silly one, if I am happy then I might read a more serious toned one! ^_^

I prefer fanfics that take a dark light upon subjects and aren't going to butter it up with goodness and all. To me, it really kills the mood if the writer is including silly things and all. That is not to say that there aren't writers that can add the silly moments and still have the mood where it is at. Silly fanfics for me in general is something you can read now and then but definitely not something that I'll probably going to enjoy in the long-run.

Silly fan fic is much better. MLP is supposed to be happy and silly. The fan fics are better when they are as such.
