I liked it, but I felt like there were a lot of areas that I found ridiculous or somewhat shallow in depth and backstory. They could've fleshed out some things a bit more, and maybe I feel like it would've been better if it were... more thought out. Maybe.

Rainbow power... That look like the matrix in transformers moves, as power of friendship in Equestria Girls. Many destruction and damn rainbow power in the end. I hope, cutie mark magic is just for toys... Don't want to see ponies with full body of cutie marks...

Know what'd be funny? What if instead of just leaving Twilight to do whatever after draining her power, Tirek captured her after letting her friends go? After all, the deal was to release Twilight's friends, but there's no reason why he couldn't have just put her in a bubble afterward.

Thinking back, why even bother sending the other princesses to Tartarus if they were powerless? And if there was a good reason, why NOT imprison Twilight?

Did anyone else notice that Twilight's crappy key moment retroactively made the most incredible achievement in the entire show's running completely worthless?

Fluttershy reformed Discord on her own because she's the only one who could. It's pretty undeniably the most amazing feat that has ever been pulled off in all of Equestrian history.

But then suddenly "Whoops, looks like Fluttershy just wasn't good enough lol. Only PRINCESS TWILIGHT can for reals teach Discord the true meaning of friendship. Sorry Flutters, you're worthless once again.

I don't think that's entirely true. If Fluttershy hadn't planted the seeds of kindness within Discord he would never have given Twilight her key. Discord's fall, the way he was betrayed, that would not have happened if he had still been purely evil. Fluttershy taught him the meaning of friendship and Twilight reiterated it. I don't think that makes Fluttershy suddenly worthless.

For me one of the strongest moments in the episode is when Discord betrays the ponies, then subsequently gets betrayed by Tirek. His echo of Fluttershy's words when he realizes he's been betrayed were so full of genuine hurt it's obvious he actually trusted Tirek up to that point.

"Don't tell me you didn't see this coming."

"I didn't...I really didn't..."

I don't think Discord would have trusted anyone before Fluttershy taught him the meaning of friendship.

For me it's one of the weakest points because there's no reason for Discord to have been so stupid.

For me it showed a change in character because indeed, he would never have made that mistake before. But because Fluttershy touched him, 'corrupted' him, maybe even, he made the mistake of trusting Tirek, and for that he was betrayed. It's not something his old self would have done, and probably not even something he was consciously aware of either.

The moment he realizes all those things was one I found quite strong, although I can see why you might not like it.

That would be an interesting explanation... if he weren't betraying them himself in the exact same way! That's where the irony comes in with the quote you gave. It would be one thing if he like, forgot that betrayal is a thing, but it's impossible for him to be so surprised when he's the one doing the exact same thing...

It was just because the writers needed it, there's no "character" involved.

I know he betrays them in the same way, that's why said that him trusting Tirek was not a conscious decision. By all means, he should not have made that mistake, yet he did. It's even pointed out to him that he should have seen it coming. He grew a conscience without realizing it, and it cost him his powers, and finally opened his eyes to what he himself had done and been up to that point.

It could just have been lazy writing, obviously, but MLP is basically where the last remnant of my idealism resides so I can't help but defend some things that might be bad. Like I said, though, I do understand why you might not like it.

I will say this.  I really liked this 2-parter.  But much like Canterlot Wedding, I think it would have benefitted greatly by having a third part.  Some things (especially with the Rainbow Powers) felt a little bit rushed.

But despite that, it was still a pretty good episode, and it was nice to see that they didn't kill off Tirek, because that always leaves it open for the ponies to encounter him again (a concept I didn't even consider for villains until I watched Season 3).

I just realized something, In the movie "Rainbow Rocks" there is a guy with a Picture of a tornado on his shirt. Isent that the cutie mark Discord had in this episode when hes a pony about to be confronted by Tirak?..

@poniesrfun I agree, this was the place she livid in from square one, the place where some great discoveries and great mistakes has been found and made. Like when Pinkie founf the scroll daying she was an Apple or when Twilight accidently changed the elements of harmony.

So sad, And the new castle is just a bit to dark and boring on the inside foe my liking :(

I would say it was good finally. Really epic. The only thing still don't agree with is the design of the new castle, I don't like look of it, is too sparkly and too much something you would see in crystal empire and not ponyville.

I think it's just that McCarthy has a serious crystal fetish.

Well I'll say this much, the first episode was genius. Tirek is an interesting new villain and the scene with him and Discord is great. The second episode was good too, but not as much thought seemed to go into it. Tirek becomes just another evil obstacle to Twilight, and the other scenes take long enough that there's barely time to send him back to Tartarus. No final exchange, no parting words, just right back into the cage. The battle scene is really unlike anything MLP has done before and obviously inspired by Dragon Ball Z, but that doesn't stop it from being a hell of a good time. It was like seeing someone's fanfiction come to life (but in a good way). Discord's story is surprisingly touching.

The whole thing with the keys is wrapped up really well and it had a fitting ending, with Twilight embracing some sort of an identity--very thin and vague, but at least it's something--as a princess. The Super Saiyan Pony designs were sort of overdone, and I was glad they didn't last long.

But compared to that new castle...

^That about sums up my reaction. Yikes. My Little Product Placement: Free Shipping is Magic.  :derp:

A powerful finale on the whole. I would rate it above Season 3 but below 1 and probably 2. And I'm really going to miss Golden Acres Library...

Why Tirek with Discord magic couldn't defeat Twilight? Discord is crearly more powerful than all alicorns together but suddenly Tirek with only the magic of earth, unicorn and pegasus ponies was able to steal all his powers. It doesn't make sense at all how Twlight could stand against him,I like to think that everything was planned by Celestia and Discord from the beginning(since most time of the show Celestia let Twilight solve all the problem like if she has a bigger destiny and they are preparing her). I thought that the spirit of Chaos and disharmony was the strongest force in Equestria after the "magic of friendship"  What do you think? Am I overrating him a little bit?
