Yes.....Twilight cannot be in that castle without a Library, .    Yet, I have a feeling if there is a scene of the Library, I would not be surprised if its huge.

I hope that the castle features a library and several bedrooms in case Twilight's friends wanna sleep over, lol. Also would be cool if Spike got a section of the castle meant just for him.

It doesn't mesh with Ponyville. Ponyville is a small cozy country town and the castle should reflect that. The color as well as the crystal look so cold and uninviting, exactly the opposite of what friendship is!

I'm betting Twily will turn the whole thing into a mega library, while keeping the throne room like it is. And I fully agree that Spike NEEDS his own room by now. Isn't he tired of sleeping in a dog bed?

Think about the Crystal Empire, if you took out the crystal castle, it would look like a small town, similar to Ponyville.

 

I guess all it really takes to make a kingdom is to put a castle in the middle of the town. ^^

This isn't the problem.

The buildings (houses/shops) in The Crystal Empire are different from the ones in Ponyville.

In Ponyville, they are mostly made of straw, wood and stone.

In the Crystal Empire, they are made of crystal. (I guess?? they are blue...)

 

Twilight's castle is apparently made of "crystal" too. It doesn't fit with Ponyville at all...

Thanks for all the fun comments, you guys.  And yes, I too felt a little bit of me die when the Twibrary was hit.

 

That said, I do like the castle a lot, despite agreeing with almost every point made by those who hated it, so here's the rundown.

 

The tree looks totally out of place in Ponyville and clashes horribly:  Yes.  Much like Twilight herself did, and still does to a point.  But I actually like the stark contrast.  It reminds me of Edward Scissorhands, with the neatly trimmed, lit, and painted suburban neighborhood, with the huge, looming creepy mansion overhead.  That brutal encounter between two worlds has a special sort of appeal for me.

 

It looks cold, uninviting, and uncomfortable: To a point.  Like most princessy trimmings, it's more concerned with being grand and flashy than in being ergonomic.  Poor Twi was already uncomfortable with her new role as a princess.  Now the discomfort is gonna go up a few dozen notches!  Am I happy with that.  Well, if it leads to good comedy, sure.

 

Come to think about it, it also reminds me of Rarity's dresses.  They're loud, flashy, ostentacious and look completely out of place in the quiet hamlet of Ponyville.  They also look uncomfortable as all hell, pebbled with pointy shards of crystal that look like they weight a pound each.  But Ponyville would not be a better place without them.

 

It looks ugly and creepy:  Well, I think it looks good.  I don't usually care for crystal versions of everyday objects, but architecture tends to work surprisingly well.  It has that neat Fortress of Solitude aesthetic going for it.  I can't be the only one who thought of the first Superman movie when they saw the box land and burrow itself into the ground before sprouting as a crystal palace.  Plus, I like the top-heavy design which is unusual for castles, and basically makes the whole thing look like the mother of all tree houses.  I love castles and I love treehouses, so seeing them blended together like this is a joy for me.

 

But does it look creepy?  Hell yes, it does!  But that works fine for me, if only because I love creepy aesthetics, and would gladly fashion my home to look haunted if given the choice.

 

So yeah.  I weep for the library, but welcome the castle.  I want to see what the staff does with it.  Will Pinkie Pie cover her chair with stickers, while Rarity piles up the velvet pillows on hers?  Will Rainbow Dash complain about not being able to nap on the pointy branches?  Will Spike complain about how the walls in the bathroom are all see-thru?  Only Season 5 will tell.
