Ways to beat Tirek

(edited)

As you've all seen, Tirek was perhaps the first villain upon which any magical attacks were ineffective, because he could just absorb them to grow in power, and then use them against the attacker. So using Magic against him was not much smart idea. (Twilight & Shining Armor, ur not using ur brainz! :P)

But this made me wonder: How a villain like this could be beaten, if one didn't have any Harmony Boxes kickin' around?

Here's an idea I've got: MAGICAL POISONING :)

If he likes sucking in other ponies' Magic so much, maybe there's a way to poison that Magic somehow, so that it would damage him from the inside and weaken him?

I thought about sending him some Dark Magic. But then I realized that it could be dangerous if this Magic wouldn't do him any harm, and if he could be able to use it against the attacker too. Also, he sucked in Discord's Chaos Magic, and if he hasn't got any indigestion from that, then I have no idea what else could make him sick :P Maybe do you have any ideas of how such "magical poisoning" could be done?

Or maybe do you have some other ideas / strategies for fighting Tirek without reverting to any deus ex machina solutions like the Harmony Box?

Huh, magic poisoning - that's a pretty interesting concept.  Could possibly work that in somehow.

Unfortunately I don't have an idea for it.

But let me point out - Celestia gave up too early (with her awful planning) and prior to giving up all their magic to Twi, they has fighting chance to Beat Tirek before moving their magic.

Even after absorbing The Equestrian population's magic, plus the Royal Guard, plus discord, plus the mane 6 and Spike, after all that - Tirek's magical power ONLY matched Twi's base alicorn magic + 3 other alicorns.

It would have been smarter to unite (or at least sink all power into Twilight) BEFORE Tirek ended up getting that much magical power - it was still possible to beat him before he betrays Discord.

Hmm, kind of hard to fight again a villain that can absorb magic - why not try a tactic with physical combat perhaps?

Magic poisoning seems more viable though.

Poison Joke OP and broken.

It seems like it can be used to nerf any thing in some manner. If used by a master herbalist like Zecora, you can imagine what sort of things might happen.

Twilight could have just used the mirror pool and had like a billion Twilights...don't think Tirek would stand a chance then.

Also, on an unrelated note, didn't Tirek absorb Pinkie's powers? So shouldn't he be able to defy the laws of physics?

Wait a minute. Didn't she beat him with the Rainbow magic? Case closed. :) The point of the whole fight scene was that Twilight had to fail and give in to gain the power to stop Tirek. He couldn't absorb Rainbow Magic. Other than that there isn't a way.

Nukes would blow Tirek to Hell and back. It's not the force that will kill him, but the heat. He showed no special heat resistance and as such is charbroiled alive

OT: Force feed him too much magic and overload him

Haven't you read my very first post in this thread? Here is the relevant part again:

As to this one:

As well as a big part of Equestria, causing all surrounding ponies to die in suffering from radiation illness, and making the land unsuitable for any life for hundreds of years. Remember Hiroshima & Nagasaki?

I didn't want to post more extreme photos, but you can find plenty of them on Google Images, with people severely burned or fragmented corpses laying on the ground among the ruins. Nuclear weapons of mass destruction is nothing fun, no matter what your politicians say to you.

Got rid of the image with the bodies. Not graphic, but not something we need here either.

@@SasQ,

No one said they were fun, you asked for ways to kill Tirek, glassing the planet, collapsing the universe, and other things would kill him

Hmm, I think one way to beat him is to probably use the Infinity Gauntlet. :P

....Are you kidding me? You are aware that Galactus could move an flutter his eyelids and that would enough to destroy the planet, right? Now realize that the Infinity Gauntlet puts you into Galactus's tier

Its kinda funny how easily people think one can just...."use magic" to defeat modern weapons.

if you recall,  twilight struggles to lift heavy things with her own magic,  even as a princess she isn't to the point of just moving things around like paper.   Heck,  she couldn't even control the sun well when she got the power to do it.

He can certainly try to do things like deflect missiles and shells,   but just assuming it will work, especially where there's nothing in cannon showing that he'd be able too,  is just silly.

Stop and think how easy it is for Discord to conjure up the many items that he brings into existence. You would think that doing what Discord does would take a incredible amount of magic to do, yet Discord can do it many times without tiring, he can even do it without much thought at all. So stopping modern weapons would be child's play for him. Since Tirek has proven to be more powerful than Discord when hes in his final form, I would see Tirek having no problem at all taking out our tech, or surviving it.

We don't truly know how Discord became sick from that, seeing the way he acted, he seems like he could have cured himself anytime he wanted. And even if chemical weapons could do harm to him, Discord would have the foresight to attack those weapons first before taking out the destructive or deadly ones.

Foresight? The same moron who couldn't tell he was being played for a fool by Tirek, the same moron who spent his time playing around instead of destroying his enemies, the one who told them to come at me?

Twilight shot him in the face once, which seemed to upset him quite a bit, then he deflected the blast rather than trying to absorb it. Tirek doesn't appear entirely impervious to magical attacks.

"Aaarrrrrgh!!!"

Or maybe he was simply blinded for a moment. Who knows.

Most of Twilight's attacks hit him from the front. Perhaps a blow from a different angle or an indirect strike would be more effectual. After Tirek knocked Twilight through the mountain, she slammed him from above with an attack that didn't injure him but did send him careening helplessly to the ground.

Chillin'

Several more attacks like that may have worn him down to eventual defeat. Only one other attack gave him pause, that being when their energies met and exploded, leaving Tirek partially buried under some rubble. Sure, he shrugged it off, but it still put him down temporarily. If direct strikes didn't avail Twilight, she may have tried using some sort of magic that could detonate and throwing it at the ground beside or behind him. The force of the blasts may have done some damage over time until he couldn't fight anymore.

@,

Equestria has that already though. ;)

 Just give Spike a pile of random crap, then take it away and tell him Tirek did it.

I do like the poison joke. If eating Discord's magic didn't screw him up, I don't think magical poisoning is possible. But physical poisons, maybe.

The elements of harmony could possibly have still been used. Might have been hard on the tree to take them back so soon, but Tirek was probably going to eat it eventually anyway.

I wonder what would have happened if Twilight tried to cast an age spell on him?

There's also the time travel spell, to warn everyone that Discord wasn't trustworthy.

His horns seem to be how he focuses magic, same as unicorns, so trying to damage those might be a good strategy.

But actually, the version they did is my favorite, because it was essentially using some of the magical energy they'd collected up over the course of the season, stored in the key items. Though the exact mechanism of beating the magic out of him isn't exactly clear, and comes across as deus ex machina. I like the G1 version better, where the rainbow is just a tiny little thing, but "infects" his dark magic and turns it against him... which now that I think about it, is magical poisoning. So I guess chaos is fine, but friendship is just too gross and girly

So hes a moron for running into another clever villain? Even though Discord betrayed everyone, the seed of wanting a companion was still a part of him, and there for became more trusting then he normally would. Discord did hold back on telling Tirek about Twilight, he did test Tirek to see if he was truthful. I don't believe Discord is allknowing, he is clever enough to think ahead when ''HE'' is in control, but their are still obstacles that could get in his way or that he may not have anticipated. However, I am certain he would have enough common sense to take out the weapons that could actually harm him, he definitely had the foresight to stop Twilight from using a Reformation spell in ''Keep Calm and Flutter On''. Also I am sorry you seem to have some dislike toward Discord

No kidding, I hate Discord, he's second only to Trixie and NMM on my worst MLP characters list.

And the point is, Tirek's ploy was childishly transparent. Would you trust someone who you know to be dangerous?

Maybe since Tirek is full of darkness, why not defeat him with pure crystal light just like how Sombra was defeated.

Bias opinions aside, if I was still conflicted on whether I should give up my nature or not then yes I could see myself trusting a fellow villain. The way the Mane 6 treated him, you could hardly say he trusted them, for all he knew, what if the only reason he was reformed was to catch Tirek and the second he did ''bam'' they would no longer need him.  I can easily see how Discord might believe Tirek considering the Mane 6 (other than Fluttershy) really hasn't given him a reason to believe they truly value his friendship, thus Tirek stating that its just a new form of imprisonment makes sense. Even if Fluttershy was sincere, Twilight and the others acted as if they weren't and Discord could easily see that, even if he played it off.

I don't know, think simple, drop a brick on his head from 1000m altitude. He can't suck the power out of that. Maybe attacking the guy feeding on magic with magic is a bad idea, just as trying to touch him, when he can suck your power out. So again, drop something on his head. Or maybe shoot one of those fancy freezing arrows in his eye. Suck on that. Har-har-har.

You bring up an interesting point. Would the Crystal Heart have been able to repel/defeat him as it did Sombra? Couldn't they have evacuated ponies to the crystal empire for protection?
