Why do some people care about celebrities and their lifes?

I do not get that - If I like some band or whoever, I am interested in them only so far as their work - where to buy their records, when there is a concert and so on. I do not really care what they do when they are not working.

Then I see a lot of news articles of the type "X got married to Y", "X has a new child", "Y is divorcing her husband", "Z got caught driving drunk" and have no idea why people find that interesting.

I don't get this either, I can't stand most celebrities and am not intereted in their lifestyles or the same unpopular opinions and pretend morals they all have and like to preech that are out of touch with reality.

Because they only in it for the drama as if the celebrities’ life is a soap opera. Whatever happens in their personal life is their business not mine.

Although I’m only interested in their story.  If you think about it, anyone in the media or the news are considered “celebrities”; Artists, Writers, movies, comedians, musicians, historical figures, etcs. I listen to their stories and reflect on it. On the artist/writers stand point I get my inspiration from theirs.

I actually feel that less people care about the lives of celebrities than it seems. It's just that those that do are particularly vocal, and reality TV feeds off of their obsession. It feels like there's an excess of this reality TV to everyone else because hardly anyone really cares. But because it's so over saturated, most people believe its a mainstream thing to obsess over celebrities, even though only a small portion of the population actually are interested.

I also think there is a difference between celebrities like Kim K and people who are actors, singers, or talk show hosts, because then the fascination with them comes from being fascinated with their talent. I think more people are interested in actors and the like than people who genuinely care what happens to Kim K and her family.

It's like the difference between being into details about Trixie because she's so good at magic...

Or obsessing over stairs simply because they exist.
