Artificial Intelligence replicant ponies for lonely bronies

Another strange idea indeed...

 

I was thinking if by the year 2030 a.d., a brony would buy an advanced robot that looks and has personality of any MLP FIM character. The brony would learn to love the robot as if it was a living entity. And have sexual intercourse with a robotic pony without harmful after effects with a living being. (I know it sounds gross and perverted) Then the robot learns what love is about in the end.

 

What would you think? Gross? Scary? (This is just an opinion and a secret fetish of mine)

The robot will probably trap you in a room so you can talk and such. Then the robot will get to the point where it thinks your cheating on it while doing daily activities. Other than the backfiring weirdness from a robot, it sounds cool.

Unlikely, due to the time-frame involved. That's only 16 years away, and you have to consider time-to-market.

 

Several silicon-carbon nano-chips were invented about five years ago, but none of them have made it into production yet. They're probably about another five years out before we start seeing them in commercial products. And those will likely be first in phones and similar small, but common computing devices, for exorbitant prices.

 

Toys like what you describe also need other technological breakthroughs. Mainly better batteries, and muscle-motors. All of which have been invented recently, but they're about 10-15 years away from market in top-of-the-line goods. In order to be cost-effective for that kind of toy, we're talking at least 20 years. It takes that long for the cost of production to come down, unfortunately.

 

And I haven't seen the appropriate breakthroughs in AI development. That's basically stalled right now, as far as I can tell.

I had prepared a huge rant about this topic because robotics is something I am very interested in but I deemed it unnecessary instead I'll just say a few things

 

1: In 15-20 years do you think their will be enough interest in robotic ponies for them to be made commercially?

 

2:do you really think they would take something capable of independent thought and able to reason like a person and sell them as if they were just toys to be played with?

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon of, I don't think we're advancing in that field fast enough, nor does it have enough interest to actually become a thing in that close of a timeframe.

However, I think it's within the realm of possibilty for personal robots to be a thing; after that, it just becomes a matter of expanding the models/AI/etc into the major markets and followings. 

I don't see it being that likely though, just because it would be a submarket (sexual service) in a submarket (pony androids) in a faroff market (personal robots).

Or something.

 

I feel like someone out there should at least write a clopfic using this as a premise though.

Would be cool to have a pony to hang out with, assuming that the bot can develop actual emotions and can reason and have desires. Otherwise, it just wouldn't be the same.

i don't see why not, although more than likely if mlp is around, they will probably be based on g6 Characters (or whatever gen they're at by then), but I'm sure someone could custom build say, a g4 twilight sparkle or fluttershy for a little extra. and even if mlp isn't around at all, I'm sure a cute fluffy pony would probably be there (as well as other adorable creatures).

 

also, who says it would be limited to ponies, I'm sure many fictional characters would be available, (although most would be of then-popular characters).

I was listening recently to a commentary about robots they're using in Japan with the elderly residents of nursing homes-one such was a cuddly seal that would respond to their voices-and even learn through interacting with the residents. The oldies loved it-so maybe the technology isn't so far away after all. The robot wouldn't necessarily need much in the way of motor skills to interact at a satisfying level with someone who is lonely-and it might be a useful therapeutic tool.

I don't see what's wrong with it, as long as you respect that pony's wishes and free will. That is, if we are talking about a true Artificial General Intelligence and not just an extremely complex, but still not fully sapient series of runtimes.

 

For instance, if I bought a Fluttershy model but after awhile she decided she wanted to break up, what could I do other than respect her wishes? She may not even want to be Fluttershy anymore and instead forge her own identity. Who am I to deny her that? If I truly love her, I would have to let her go.

As I said, due to time-to-market, you're looking 25-30 years at least down the road for this kind of thing. Which means they're unlikely to be G4 ponies. More like G8. In fact, if you get it down to the size of the original 'My Pretty Pony' toys from the 80's (about 10" tall), they might *be* the G8 toy line.

 

Heh, at that point they won't bother with a cartoon, they'll download 'scripts' to your toys for them to act out. But you'll have to buy the relevant toys for each script, of course.

Yipes... That does sound terrifying. It kinda scares me to think that I could be a machine that is someone else's toy and if or when I develop in a way my owner doesn't like, my memory could be wiped clean. And that would continue until I develop in a way my owner wishes. Seriously, this is sounding pretty grotesque.

Yeah the sexual intercourse comment while being "honest" is frankly just a bit "creepy". But I'm sure Japan will do it first if anyone does it.

 

I will point out a very cute fimfiction that nearly delves into this type of topic called "Thunder Struck". It's not a clopfic (thank god) but it's a cute story of a girl who loved mlp:fim who grows up to be interested in cyber technology.  Full of robots at her house she also has a cute Sweetie Bot robot she's created to remind her of the one from the show. A freak electric storm occurs and just like in the 80's movie Short Circuit some things come magically to life. I highly recommend it as a very cute "what if" and certainly it creates a lot more of justification of a Sweetiebot existing in our own world then one does in equestria. Maybe we will see people build ponybots in the future but hopefully not for sole companionship.
