So I took a look at this photo and it got me thinking about AJs' parents. Then i thought about how the show would explain the weird match up of Applejack's family on the farm. Obviously I don't think the show will ever go that dark to say they died but i think there is the possibility of a very deep and meaningful episode.

But why stop there? I wouldn't mind an episode or episodes where they give background info on the mane 6's families. We have seen some other parents like RDs father, plus rarity, twilight and even pinkie's family. But we haven't seen anything from Aj,Fluttershy And the biggest perpetrator of missing-parent-syndrome, Scootaloo.

How do you think the episode would layout? Are you for something like this? Would you like to see it in a dark, deep, sad, so happy it makes you cry, or lighthearted way?

I think they could possible do an episode where its a holiday for parents.

P.S. Im pretty sure there is another topic like this somewhere else.

I, personally, wish they would go a little into this topic on the show. If done with sensitivity, it would be a great episode to show kids who either have lost one or both parents or know a friend who has. It's not like those members of their audience don't exist out there. Plus, it could be a killer Applejack episode, and I just love her anyway.

This has to be in the show, sooner or later.

A sad episode about Applejack's parents would be awesome, assuming they're dead.

I am definitely hoping for an episode about Applejack's parents next season. But, I do agree that if they do make an episode about this, it is met with sensitivity and they don't make it too dark. They could really make a good episode out of this concept.

My honest opinion, and I know I'm gonna get a lot of nasty looks, but I'd rather see Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Scoot's family explored over AJ's parents. Despite never showing her parents, she has the largest family in the show on top of her family getting the most screentime, whereas the other 3 practically have jack shit(all we've seen is RD's dad, which was pretty much a quick recolor at the last minute). To me it's kind of unfair to keep focusing on a character who's already has the largest aspect of something while neglecting other characters who's seriously lacking.

That's not to say that I don't want an episode surrounding AJ's parents or death, I think those are something the show should touch on before it ends(of course they need to be careful about it)

i'm really scared to find out about AJ's parents, so i rather have the door unopened for a while, i have no idea if the show would explore that side, but if they do, that would be one of the biggest highlights of whichever season it get featured in.

I absolutely don't think they should say how her parents died. That's just dark. What needs to be addressed is how a person handles their feelings afterwards, and even for years after.

Well, I disagree. AJ's parents have to be alive. Hasbro would never allow AJ to be treated as if her parents were dead. Even suggesting this would probably be considered too dark for the targeted audience.

But, I do agree on the fact that I would like to see them on the show or to even hear about them. As for RD, can someone remind me in which episode we hear about her parents because I don't remember....

And finally, I would really like to hear about Scootaloo's parents. She seems far too young to be living on her own, and I find it really hard to believe.

I think the show one day will be willing to explain that, even in the terms of "family loss". It's a dark subject but it doesn't have to be over the top, just enough for kids as well as adults can understand. I'm not saying death is something to sugar coat, but it shouldn't be too dark that it will make most of us cry (well for me it probably will since I've lost my dad but meh.)

We need to see her parents sooner or later.
Or just learn that their dead, but I don't think that will happen in My Little Pony any time soon.

1. They're dead. The producers confirmed it. Hasbro wouldn't allow them to come out and say they're dead, but that's what the two shooting stars in Apple Family Reunion represented.

2. In Games Ponies Play, a flashback shows Rainbow Dash as a filly standing on the back of a stallion with her rainbow-coloured hair, next to a mare who has Dash's eye colour.

3. Agreed. Her and Fluttershy are the ones I'm most curious about.

I wonder what the point is of confirming something that they would actually never be able to show on screen....

Or even talk about.

This news breaks my heart.

About RD, I was actually hoping to see her parents as well as Twilight's parents in the present rather than as a flashback.

I mean, Twilight became a princess, they should be very proud at least.

Very well.

that's what i meant, i mean everything regarding their parents.

Twilight's parents were at both Shining Armour's wedding and Twilight's coronation.

What ? How come I did not notice them ????

I don't think I actually know what they look like, now that I think about it. They look like generic ponies to me.

Were they in the background ? Did they talk at all ? Because I usually don't notice ponies who do not talk...

I'm going to have to re-watch those episodes....

"Apple Family Reunion" did all but state explicitly that Applejack's parents passed away.. as someone already said, remember the scene with the shooting stars.

Something tells me that this will be left to the world of fan art, I'd love to see an episode done on this...but probably not going to happen thanks to Hasbro and its desire to sell toys.

I read a pretty good story a while ago which had Applejack's parents be killed by timberwolves in the Everfree Forest while returning from a family event..

I felt Apple Family Reunion covered that aspect of the show. I think a nod in the future to AJ's parents would be nice, although realize that this is quite an optimistic show, and they might not show that.

Directly addressing the death of Applejack's parents would be an artistic mistake. The writers have shown us that they have nailed the concepts of theme and symbolism, and have a penchant for using them with subtlety.

If they were to explore AJ's loss AGAIN, they would likely do it in such a way that most viewers would miss it on the first viewing.

There are times when I wonder if some of the writers are fans of JD Salinger. Writing complex allegory without wanting to ever acknowledge directly that it exists. Either that or they have a perverse love for seeing what the fans can spin from their omissions.

It's kinda rare that the show explores relationships, don't they? I'm of course talking about non-romantic relationships other than friendships. They've explored sibling relationships to some extent in sisterhooves social and somepony to watch over me. For Whom The Sweetie Belle Toils also went into that territory.

While seeing new parents introduced would be nice, it would also be nice to have episodes that tell a story about how characters relate to their parents just as we've seen episodes that tell a story about how siblings (like Rarity and Sweetie Belle) relate to one another.

The thing that bugs me about the Apple siblings' parents is not that they're dead, but it's pretty much like they never existed. The thing of it is that the Apples are so much about family- but don't even seem have any pictures of the parents- yet they have pictures of when Granny Smith was young.

As for other characters' family members, I'm pretty sure I've read something from one of the writers a while back that the next season will probably have some other family members introduced.

One of my favorite introductions was Rarity's parents- I thought it was hilarious. Her accent got completely called out- LOL!!!

Tabitha mentioned something funny in an interview about when the writers kind of "sprung the parents on her" - I forgot exactly what she said.

It kind of reminds me of Madonna and her "British accent."  She's a native of Michigan and went to high school about 10 miles up the road from me!
