Shadow sat in a chair on her porch, a book levitating in front of her. She moved her hoof across the page, each set of bumps representing a letter or word. It was a cloudy day, with a huge over cast all over Ponyville but the weather team said that there shouldn't be any rain until late in the afternoon and it was only 11:35 in the morning. Shadow liked the cool breeze caused by the clouds and that was why she was outside, while most of Ponyville were inside their homes.

Hivemind was in the disguise he had been using most often. It was that of Storm Strafe, a sky blue pegasi with a lightning typhhon cutie mark. He was flying the houses of Ponyville wanting to be home to enjoy the coming storm. On his way to his cave, he saw a mare reading on her porch. Nothing unusual. But they book,s writing looked odd so he landed for a closer look and saw it was written in brail. "Morning", he said to the mare before commenting on the book. "Brail writing...that's pretty unique".

Shadow looked in the direction of the voice, "Hi, and yeah not many ponies use braille but its the only thing I can read..." She said with a smile. " If you don't mind me asking, Who am I talking to right now?" She asked as she closed her book. A cool breeze blew some of her mane into her eyes and she pushed her mane out of her eyes, that were completely white.

"Storm Strafe, best flier in Equestria", he boasted coppying Storm's personality. He didn't care that she was blind. If anypony saw him in his true changeling form, he'd have to flee. "I see you're blind", he said vacantly just as Storm would have done. "And you are", he asked sliggtly intrigued by tge mare.

"I'm Shadow, nice to meet you Storm Strafe, and yes I am blind, I have been since birth..." She said with a smile before sticking her hoof out for a hoof shake. "And, you are the best flier in Equestria? So I'm guessing your a Wonderbolt or something like that." She said, her smile turning into a smirk and she raised her eyebrow.

She shook her hoof quickly before answering her question. "A wonderbolt?....nah..not anymore. I quit that team of snails. They just couldn't keep up with the awsomeness that is me", he said cockilly before picking up one of her brail books. "How do you read this stuff", he asked to keep up conversation.

She chuckled, "Its pretty difficult to learn, each set of dots represents a different letter or word. I 'read' it by moving my hoof across the page. By feeling on the dots, I can tell whats on the page..." Shadow said before she touched the cover of the book and said "this book is, The Big Book of Advanced Magic..."

"Neat. You know...that stuff seems like it might be something that's actually pretty useful to learn. Ypu think you might be willing to teach me how to read that brail stuff since there is really nothing else that's much better to do today", he asked her trying to read one of the books without sucsess.

"Sure, it took me a while to learn it but maybe I can try and teach you the basics..." She said before standing up and opening the door to her house. "Come on in, there is a desk..." Shadow tried to remember the layout of her house "upstairs, next to the door to my personal library. I will get a few books that should help you..." She smiled.

"Cool..thanks, Shadow", he said walking in and heading upstairs to begin his brail learning. The only problem was that he was stuck acting like Storm Strafe...not himself but it was a small price to pay to be able to interact with the ponoes of Ponyville.

"Just take a seat and I will be right back." Shadow said before heading into her personal library. She walked the length of the bookshelf, felling the spines of the books. She stopped and took 2 books. They were titled 'Braille to Equestrian Dictionary' and 'Braille Basics'. She walked out of the library and set the books on the desk. "you ready?"

He looked at the two books that she had put in front of him. "Braille to Equestrian Dictionary....what...Braille has different words than Equestrian does", he asked simply because Storm Strafe would have asked. He checked out the other book. "Braille basics", he said quietly. "Yeah...I'm ready".

"Braille and Equestrian use the same words, its just written differently" Shadow said before opening the 'Braille Basics' book. It had the alphabet but next to the letter was a set of dots:

"This is the Braille alphabet, The braille characters make up the letters of the alphabet, punctuation marks, numbers, and everything else you can write in print, and each 'cell' has a max of 6 dots." Shadow said before pointing at an image on the opposite page.

"A, is made up of 1 dot that uses 1. B uses 1 and 2... C uses 1 and 4... and so on." She then continued with the rest of the alphabet.

"Uhhhhhh.... sure, whatever you say that makes complete sense", he said partially because he actuaaly was slightly confused. "So... the dots that form the letters correspond with the numbers one through six, am I right", he asked flipping a couple of pages in the book.

She pointed to a picture of a full cell:

"Yes you are right, The top left dot is 1, the dot below that is 2, and the dot below that is 3. The top right dot is 4, the dot below that is 5 and the last one is 6." She said before smiling. "I should also mention that if you want to capitalize the first letter in a word, than you should put a cell with only the 3 used at the beginning of the word. To make the entire word capitalize you will need to add 2 cells with only the 3 used in the front of the word."

He stared at her blankly, nor that she could see that he was. "Capitalize...three...full capital....two..with three...why can't Braille just make sense", he asked rubbing his temple. "My brain hurts....wait..does Braille even have punctuation marks or are you supposed to just magically know the punctuation"?

She giggled "I told you it was difficult to learn. Its hard to learn, and very hard to master. Also your brain cannot physically hurt from learning, Learning never exhausts the brain..." She said before smiling. "And yes Braille does have punctuation... but before I try and teach you that, Would you like to take a break?"  She asked.

"Rediculously hard to learn, yeah. I honestly doubt I'll ever master this Braille stuff. And you know what? I don't care that its not possible...my brain does hurt. But.. a break sounds good", he said smiling completely forgetting that she was blind and couldn't see it.

"alright, how about I make us some tea while you go take a seat on the couch downstairs." She said with a smile. She began walking down stairs, almost tripping because she skipped a step "wo, that was close" She said before continuing downstairs and entering the kitchen.

He flew down the stairs behind her. "Tea, that would be a pleasure....er-i mean....yeah, sure...whatever", he said as he got up from the desk. When she almost fell he stopped to ensure that she stayed level and he wouldn't have to swoop and save her blind flank. He sat on the couch as he had been instructed.

She began making the tea and began making the tea and set it up and turned on the oven. She then walked into the living room and sat down on the couch next to him, waiting to hear the whistling sound from the teapot. She was un-sure if he was on the left or right of her.

(what was mean the thought or the diolauge? by the way, notice that his manner of speak changed momentarily...the polite talk was hivemind real way of talking, not copying storm strafe).

 

From her left side he said in own tone no longer copying Storm Strafe, "Thanks for the lessons and the tea, too, Shadow".

Shadow turned to him "your welcome also, I noticed the tone of your voice has changed... is something wrong?" She said with a confused look. She began to think 'that's strange, I have never met a pony who change the way they speak like that... hmm' She then looked forward again.

"No. Everything is all right. You have no reason for concern", Hivemind responded hoping that the lie was not obvious enough that Shadow would realize it. Realizing that nopony could see him, he reverted to his true changeling form in complete silence.

"If you say so..." She said before hearing the whistling of the tea pot. She stood up and went into the kitchen. She soon came out with a tray that had a tea pot, a couple cups on it. She set it on the coffee table and looked at 'Hivemind' before asking "1 sugar or 2?"
