  1. My biggest fear is becoming more forgetful as I get older. When anyone gets in their 60s or above, their memories begin to go. This is my biggest fear because, life is short and if you don't remember what good times you have, whether it be going to conventions to meet people of similar interests, dating, or having a family, life will feel like it is not worth living. Since if you don't remeber the good times, your family, your friends.... then you wonder what it is like to live at all. I fear that one day I would get Amnesia from old age or Alzhemiers Disease, cause it might make me lose the one thing I value the most, which is.................GOOD MEMORIES!!!!
  2. Wow really? I minored in electrical engineering, when I was doing my Bachelors. There is a LOT of Math involved. I would suggest taking the MATH classes FIRST before getting into the hands on stuff on creating schematics and proto type circuit boards. Knowing the math first will really help you out in the end. Tell me about it! I paid most of my loans while attending school for my undergads and my masters. I have much LESS debt then my other college friends who have double or more debt then me. Cause every time I got a tax return credit, I threw it at the LOAN. When I had an extra 400 dollars laying around, I spent IT on the LOAN! So this really helped keep my loan debt in a manageable amount instead of it entering 6 figures like some of my college friends did. (Who can survive on a entry level job's income, with a 6 figure loan?) I feel ya @ ! My GPA was 3.41 when I was doing my masters. It was not the greatest, but I was working between full time college and 3 to 2 jobs, in order to pay for college and get around. I know the feeling of how it took away from my social life. But the fact that I am the first person in my family to have a masters degree and I beat one of my sisters to it by a few months, made me feel very good. One of my sisters (I have 3) would brag about, how she was about to be the first person in our family line, to have a masters degree and we all got so sick of how she bragged about it ALL THE TIME. Then I beat her to it by a month, officially. (I graduated in April and she graduated in May) Then she went silent, other family memebers, even whispered to me "Thank you, now she can SHUT THE HELL UP, about it, now that you are the first one to get it!" I would suggest, if you are going to get your Ph.D I would save a bit of money first, so your student loans do not build up past an unpayable amount. The rule of thumb here is either do it part time and pay at least half of it off as you study or rely on grants/scholarships. Don't let your debt get so big, that you can't afford the monthly payments, when it is in 6 figures, keep it at 5 figures or below. @ Dont' forget to put that on your resume for when you apply for jobs! Having you in a leadership position, is looked on highly by employers, so even though it was for school. The first job you apply for look for things like this, when they consider canidates, who have little or no experience in the field, working for another company. Ohhhh, What do I say here...... Well you are half right there, but who does not want to brag about something good they did. Plus, I wanted to put up an oringal topic, that was not discussed on these fourms yet.
  3. So for this thread, tell us of some stories/pranks/jokes that were played on you or someone else and how you GOT BACK AT THEM!
  4. Heh I feel the same way, with my 3 sisters, when I was younger. I think that counts, it is a small one, but one none the less! I find my self helping to drive my friends to their jobs (without charging them for gas) so I think the extra effort I do to drive them to work and carpool with me is a good deed in itself....unless they are 30 minutes away....
  5. Was there ever a time you did a good deed in which no one else would? Perhaps someone fell and you helped them up, while everyone pointed and laughed? Or maybe you prevented someone from getting bullied? Let us know below!
  6. Made another new topic on job creation, anyone want to help me pool to together thought? http://mlpforums.com/topic/95279-if-you-could-create-more-jobs-then-what-jobs-would-you-create-and-why/

  7. As far as America goes, we are in a recession, so we hear a lot about how there is too many people out there, that is out of work. However there are not enough jobs out there, to supply the amount of people out of work. So if you could create jobs, what kind of jobs would you create? Below I listed a template to make this much easier for every to be specific, so let's follow the following format.. Industry type: Job Positions needed: Experience Required: Reason why we need more of this kind of work?: I will start... Industry type: Information Systems/Computer Networking/IT Job Positions needed: ENTRY level IT HELP, desk, field technicians, Junior System Admin, Junior Network Engineer, Tech Support, PC repair man. Experience Required: Zero to 1 year of experience, for Entry level people first. THEN there would be a "Level 2 and 3" position for those with 1 to 3 years experience. Job Limitations/Restrictions: ONLY for those who are recent grads (Graduated from college in the last 2 years) or those still in college Reason why we need more of this kind of work?: There are not enough ENTRY level positions out there, It's a catch 22, you need experience to gain experience, but no one wants to hire someone who has zero experience and just came out of school. Where are our students with little to no experience, supposed to go? We need to create more ENTRY level positions out there. The pay may not be great but it helps recent graduates and current graduates get hands on experience. Personally if you are investing in certifications or college to pursue something, that should be reason enough to create entry level jobs, so they can get out there and work. This is not the only industry that America needs, in fact there are many others, that we hear about all the time that we need more "science Majors" and computer programmers. All the time, the employers complain that they cannot find EXPERIENCED people to do that work. The reason they cannot find experienced people, is because they are not willing to train those who are only lacking a year or so of experience. So I feel recent graduates and people with no experience are hurting the most. What about the rest of you? If not America then what other locations are you in or feel needs more of X and Y type of that you feel needs work? Let us all know in below!
  8. For Non Fandom related: I would say that it is better to be a smart "GEEK" then be a dumb "Jock". For the Fandom: My unpopular opinion is Applejack being the "best" pony. (This applies to just the main 6, not ALL ponies in general.)
  9. Don't underestimate the award of perfect attendance. When you apply for your first job, put that on your resume. Employers LOVE this and would see that as evidence of you showing up to work or school on time every day.
  10. Everyone has a plan, some change their minds in the middle of their life. Some follow their plans all the way through. So as far as education goes, what is the highest level of education, that you plan to finish or have already finished? Or perhaps What KIND of education do you plan on doing or have completed already. Did you plan to go to college for an Associates, Bachelors, Masters degree or a Doctors/PHD? Perhaps Certifications are your style? Did you graduate high school or go for that GED exam? BONUS: Also did you win any awards during your time in school? I am talking about awards that came from high school, college, trade school and so on, so let's hear about it. I will start this thread with myself... 2005 = Graduated high school 2005 - 2009 = Graduated with my Bachelors Degree (Bachelors of Science) 2010 = Trade school (Became COMPTIA A plus, Network plus, and Security plus certified) 2011 - 2013 = Graduated with my Masters degree (MBA) (Masters in Business Administration with the concentration of Information Systems Management.) AWARDS.... Toastmasters Club – Competent Communicator Award (I Joined a public speaking club and became the first student on my campus to complete 10 speeches before graduation, which earned me this reward.) S.T.A.R (Students Taking Active Responsibilities) – Platinum Level Accomplishment (Helped out with volunteer work on the schools campus.) Future Business Leaders of America – Certificate of Appreciation (College Business club, won this award by helping out people who were struggling with on campus issues.) The Future... I plan to go ahead and try to get the following.... CCNA Cert. (Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing and Switching certification) ACMT Cert. (Apple Certified Macintosh Technician certification) (Working on this NOW) ?MCSA Cert (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) That's it for me, what about the rest of you bronies and pegasisters?
  11. Clinderscribe said it best.... Although I think that is more of a "Can I disable those annoying Facebook notifications?" Issue. What Clinderscribe has said, is what the major opinion is. As for what I meant by advertisements is similar to what Clinderscribe has said. So being FaceBook is a social networking company as other people in this thread has said. Their "mission" is to use whatever asset at their disposal to make money, through advertisements. In Clinderscribe's example, many people feel that Facebook will get rid of the "game" part and turn it into a GIMMICK of sorts. "Ohhh look at how COOL it is to browse FaceBook through this new technology!" "Ohhh look at my new coffee table, that is also a touch screen tablet! It looks cool!, I can browse FaceBook in such a cool looking way!" See what I mean? People fear that FaceBook will just turn this project, which looks like it is making a dent into improving virtual reality, into another Gimmick that people will like for a while and forget. Hence pushing it as another excuse to "advertise" their company service, though another Gimmick. Much how Google pushes how you can look through the SAME apps on it's device, which you could easily already do on your phone, tablet or PC. WE can browse Facebook, on the PC, we can get FaceBook updates through our tablets, phones and now in new cars. Why would we need more advertisement in this new technology? That's what I mean by FaceBook using it as an advertisement, to gain more people to make accounts, and try to use the information given in advertisements, so they can expand their profits. That's how most social networking sites make their money. I think I answered your question, if not, let me know if I can better explain it to ya.
  12. Another trend that I am noticing among interviews is them asking the following... "How is your job search going?" "Anyone else call you in for an interview?" "If so, what company and where?" My analyse of this is, the employer is looking to see if you are "in demand" or not. From what I gather, they want to see how much time they have before they can prepare an offer to you. However I have seen that this is used against the person, if they answer: "I have no other interviews at this time." Since if they have too many candidates, they can mark this one off as "not suited for the job.", which I think is wrong. I have seen how some would try to make you an offer more quickly if you do have an interview with a competitor. I would suggest that if one is in this case, do not get cocky. Instead say something like "It is only fair that I hear what they have to say in the interview, I have scheduled this Friday. I do not have an offer yet, but I do have an interview, schedule with them." This response would suggest to them that you are being interviewed, but not in a hurry to accept anything that they throw at you. It shows that you are "in Demand" so to speak. However do not lie about it, if you do not have an interview then be honest about it. but if you had an interview within the last few weeks, I would suggest you mention it, to show that you were interviewed and were being considered. At the end of an interview, it is OK it ask "When shall I expect to hear from you?", since it is a nice way of asking when you should hear back from them on their decision.
  13. Different companies have different mission objectives. Sometimes when another company buys and/or sponsors a product, they have "a saying" of what that developer/creator/producer can do with said project. Think of it of how when your company is in the stock market and you have share holders, who sponsor you. If you do something that they do NOT like, then they pull their support and money. People are afraid that Facebook will misdirect Oculus, and turn it into a major "advertisement" for Facebook, where they would do nothing but push advertisement ads in your face and make it all about social networking and not enough about the games, in which Oculus was advertised to do. So I would say people are afraid that Facebook will "ruin" Oculus in the long run and change what the experience is all about. At least that is my take on it. I don't want to judge too soon. I want to see how well they perform. before passing judgement.
  14. Now, that I think about it more, I would have to say I did a little more then fool around on a virtual machine/dual boot with Linux. I have also set up a NAS (Network Attached Storage) unit using Linux with "FREENas". FREENAS is based off of FreeBSD, which in turn was based off of Unix. I tried setting up servers in my home using fedora as well. Red Hat was only used when, I was in college, since college was the only place that had a system with Red hat CD's where I can use. I didn't want to pay for Red Hat, so I got to play with it in the schools labs, setting up small remote servers to "talk" to each other. Fedora was a "free" experimental version of Red Hat, from what I can recall. It was released to the public to download and use for free, but not supported by the developers.
  15. It makes me wonder if such a thing were possible, the "greedy" people would be scrabbling to "capture" her and make money off of her. Also if it were possible to make a god being based off of "Celestia" then this could start a religion war of sorts. You would hear things like "Why did you make that kind of god? *Insert popular religious figure here* is the TRUE savor, burn in HELL!" Our most bloody wars were fought over religion. As for bronies turning it into a religion, that is news to me, then again someone on here did say the some Star Wars people think Jedi is a religion. Wouldn't surprise me that the press would have a field day with this.
  16. TL:DR version: Here is a good example for a first resume from the link below... http://jobsearch.about.com/library/samples/blhsresume2.htm Now, BELOW I go into GREAT DETAIL about how to go about this, so use the example above and read on as I will try to explain how to go about this. Focus on a basic 1 page resume, since I feel it would be easier for you then making a CV (Curriclum Vitae). CV would be longer in length, and gives a lot of details. So a basic resume would be a good start. OK, your first resume is usually the hardest to write, due to the fact that writing your first resume usually has no job experiences listed on it, for someone so young. So From the top, list your name, town, state, contact information (phone, and e-mail). Next you want to list under "Education", where you are currently going to school. (You mentioned you are 16, so I assume this is high school.) List the FULL NAME of the high school you go to and the year you STARTED to go and the expected graduation date. (You could also put down the "YEAR #### - Present" as an alternative, if you are still in school.) As a side note, I would suggest to make a separate E-mail, used ONLY for jobs. So, make this E-mail a professional looking one. Example: yourname@yahoo.com, so if your name is John Doe, put in "JohnDoe@yahoo.com. Or JohnD@yahoo.com. You DO NOT want to use an e-mail that looks like you just made up a name, like ponyPUN 2354@yahoo.com. To them that looks unprofessional and the idea is, in a big E-mail database, it is easier to look up your name if that E-mail with your resume came from an E-mail Address that is similar to your name. Next Section I would put down experience, however you do not have any, so I would skip this. Instead focus on your current Academic Awards, which you should put under "achievements". Some Examples would be perfect attendance award (along with the year you received it), Scholarships, "Best student of X activity" and so on. Do not underestimate the power of such rewards, since employers like the idea that a young person has the ability score so high at such an early age. Also putting down good attendance award, shows the employer that you have a good record of coming to work/school on time and ready to do your job. Moving on, I would STRONGLY suggest to do some volunteer work, so you can start claiming experience in a related field, in which the employer is looking for. You may not get paid, but you do gain experience and employer like the idea that someone as young as you is willing to dedicate time to learn on something you like doing. So being you have no Experience as a volunteer, then no worries for now, just keep in mind that volunteer work is not just learning about a given job, but also help you network and give you an edge on getting a job you want, if someone is willing to help ya out in the job department. So I would suggest to try to do some volunteer work for charities, to help build on your resume. so being you are very young, they can forgive you for not have a lot of experience in the first place. You said that this is a sportswear shop and you don't know what this job entails. So I would suggest in the next sections, you should list your interests/activities that you do. A sportswear shop would be looking for an athletic and/or sports fan. So putting on your résumé of how you play sports like football, basketball and so on, shows you have a genuine interest in the profession at this store and it being a sports, store, you will feel more motivated to help customers out who share similar interest in sports. If you are not athletic, then the alternative is to show them you have an interest in sports in general. (I.E, Do you like watching sports on TV?) They are going to look for people who are INTERESTED in sports, cause people who are interested in sports are more motivated to work in a sports store vs., someone who hates sports, so they do not just see it as another paycheck. Employers are going to be picky in this job market, so its best to make it look like you are the "best" fit for the theme and position of the store. Dont' be afraid to ask questions, but ask questions on what the position entails and what they are looking for. Finally your skills section, so what are you good at? Put things down that are related to the position in which you are applying for. So being you do not have much information on the position, I can't go into too much specifics. however some examples of some skills you could put down are things like.... 1) Proficient at time management 2) Patient with people 3) Observant 4) Quick learner Remember! These are only examples, so if you put them on your resume, be prepared to explain EACH trait and give EXAMPLES of why you feel that these personality traits/skills are your core strengths. Employers are looking for you to BACK UP what you put on a resume. So here you would be including your personality traits. As for the interview, try to save your questions for the END of the interview, the only question you should ask at the beginning (cause you don't know what this job entails yet) is to ask "In detail, what is this job and what do you need someone to do in this position?". Wait for them to explain it, and save your questions for the end. DO NOT interrupt them, let them finish their explanations, cause they may answer some of your questions in which you might have. Finally, If you get more details about the position, feel free to come back and tell me and everyone else about it, so we can all further assist you. The more details about the job description, the better me and anyone else can help you out. I didn't get my first job until, I was 18, due to so many employers, only wanted to high people at 18 or up. So perhaps you will get more lucky then me.
  17. So you got a job interview coming up. You researched your company, practiced your sales pitch and then....they throw an odd ball question at ya, in which you never heard before. To make matters worse you do not know how to answer or respond to said question correctly. Or perhaps you simply have difficulties with particular interview questions and feel that you want to understand WHY they are such a silly question in your job interview. I created this thread to help those who need help with a job interview questions, since a lot of people are out of work, I figured why not help each other out. I been on 60 plus interviews (I am not kidding, that is a lot of interviews), after I graduated with my MBA (Masters of business Administration, with the concentration of Information Systems Management.) So it can get frustrating. But at my current job, I am a Senior Foremen/Manager and I hired people and asked common and not so common job interview questions. So I have been of both sides of the fence for at least a bit. I may of went through so many interviews, but you learn from trial and error on how to better yourself. As for me I always come up second it seems....If I can make it to the second, third and in rare cases a FOURTH interview, then I must be doing something right. Also If you have NO experience and need advice on how to GAIN experience for that job you want, also feel free to ask. If I cannot answer your question, then I am sure someone will be able to help you along the way. so ASK AWAY!
  18. 1) To Katana, Mitchflizz05 is correct, Based on the information in which you provided, I would say, YES and I agree with Mitchflizz05 buying a new pci sound card for your motherboard will not fix those issues, since you are using a wireless USB headset. Unless you have a headset plugged into that sound card. 2) To Johnwuzhere1993, I would also take a can of compressed air (They go for 3 to 10 dollars a can), and blow some air into the ipod jack, in which you plug your headphones into. I had a similar issue with my ipod and it turns out there was a small layer of dust that covered one "ring" on the inside of the jack, which made only half of the speakers work, because the "ring" contacts were dirty. Inside that same headphone jack, in which the ipod connects to, there are 2 contact "rings". One ring is for the speakers on the left and another is for the right. So one of your "rings on the inside might be a bit dirty. (Notice how your headphone plug end, has two colored "rings" on its end at different lengths, that's where it makes the two contacts. An ipod's headphone jack is 3.5 mm, which seems to be the standard size in which headphones come in. So I would check or measure the size of the end of your headphones to see if it is the right size for your ipod. So I would pocket that $45 and try these steps and get back to me, on how it goes 3) To CMQuickfireTK, I worked/played with/fooled around with Fedora, Red hat, Ubuntu, Mint, in the schools labs, (When I was still in college) and on my home computer. I dual/triple/quad boot my systems with different flavors of Linux along with windows, so I messed with it just setting it up. Now I just sometimes mess with Linux on a virtual machine now. 4) Good work Mitchfizz05!

    gaming The Xbox One

I am going to end up getting both, the xbox ONE and the ps4. Out of all my friends, I will be the lab rat for this one. I am getting the ps4 for free, So I am curious on how the xbox will do. I will not be getting both systems at launch, I will be waiting for the new year to come first. The first "batch" of consles appear to always have the big flaws in them.
