  1. Great, that's pretty much all the arguments in a nutshell. Here's the thing: Microsoft have far greater experience with operating systems than Sony does. I'm talking decades. The Xbox One has three operating systems, with one being built on the Windows kernel. This is important because developers will soon have the ability to create universal apps which run on both desktop PCs, Windows Phones and the Xbox One. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_One#Operating_system As for the Microsoft design language, I feel that there isn't much to compare between that and PS4. As an Xbox One user, all I feel is that the design simply works and is efficient to get to everything and snap applications in the least amount of controller pressing. As for controller pressing, the Xbox One controller is a vast improvement over the 360. Having used it, it's perfect. DRM is not really an issue. Finally, Microsoft have ensured that the resolution and frame rate is up to the developers. They do not restrict resolution at all. Due to the Xbox One's operating systems being project which required immense research and development instead of PS4's OS which just forked FreeBSD, both Microsoft and game company developers have had to go a long way to optimise the running of games. But since release, I've had no issue with a 720p, 60FPS BF4. Resolution isn't very noticeable on a large TV when you're sitting far away on a couch. For monitor gamers... well, they can go buy a PS4. Yes, in numbers, the Xbox One is at a disadvantage, but realistically, does it matter? No. No, I just said they do make revenue. Not making revenue would mean that they're making $0.00. The reason why Apple is so successful in turning profits is due to multiple reasons, some of which are: brand reputation and vertical integration. Vertical integration is what I want to talk about. With vertical integration, they've managed to own their supply chain. That means they control the quality and quantity of goods produced at all stages. That's why they produce multiple products. The reason why they don't lose money is because of this diversification and also brand reputation. That's pretty much why Apple excels at what they do.
  2. Microsoft does make revenue off the Xbox brand, and they hold customer service to a very high standard. Check out what Major Nelson has done for the community. Also check out the Xbox One sub-reddit. The community there frequently voices their opinions and criticisms and MN's always there to answer them. Many of the features implemented in the latest monthly software updates have been a result of the Xbox community, which includes /r/XboxOne. As for "hates gaming", that's before Phil Spencer became head of Microsoft's Xbox division. The guy he replaced didn't care about tie division. Phil's really driven the focus to gaming now. Oh - "Shortly after his appointment, in an interview with Larry Hryb, Spencer stated that there were some "wrong decisions" regarding the direction of the Xbox One and that the console will now focus more on video games instead of general entertainment." For those of you who are trying to repeat the criticisms from the pre-release mob, you're late, since the Xbox One ecosystem has changed greatly. There isn't noticeable difference when it comes to cloud DRM between the PS4 and Xbox One. Feel free to mention me if you have a point which you believe trumps these one-thousand characters.
  3. I believe you need a satellite dish as well: https://www.outernet.is/pages/shop My point is, their mission to make data available globally, including third world countries, would be limited by poverty and low income areas.
  4. This is very, very, good news. Making the data we take for granted accessible to the whole world would be a major step in increasing the level of education in third world countries. Unfortunately, the cost of setting up the devices is the major limiting factor to worldwide adoption of this.
  5. I thought by 'fails', you mean instances where the animators did not realise that mistakes made it into the final movie. There's nothing 'messed up' about Spike being a dog. You could easily say that Twilight being human is 'messed up'.
  6. Sleeping. A good eight hours or more and waking up late. Waking up to no exams or stress.
  7. I'm British Chinese. The way I eat rice is to have the rice in a bowl, and when you want to eat the rice (as opposed to the food on the dishes on the table), you put the bowl to your mouth, and use the chopsticks to scoop into your mouth. Now I have a question for you guys: how do western people eat prawns?
  8. The same reason why many people would dislike the Queen: she's too much of a figurehead. She has a tendency to put Twilight into great risks even when she's not learning about friendship. She hasn't done much in the present-day either.
  9. The poll is broken (Oops! Something went wrong! [#10355] You must cast your vote in each question of the poll), so I'll answer here: All the time Android N/A Android KitKat 4.4.4 running on a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 flashed with CyanogenMod 11 M8 (build 11-20140708-SNAPSHOT-M8-jflte) Not because of a specific device, but there is an issue prevalent on browsers of all devices, be it Safari (Webkit/Nitro) or Chrome (Blink) with drop-down navigation bars similar to the following example: <li><a href="/manefive">Mane Five</a> <li><a href="/twilightsparkle">Twilight Sparkle</a></li> <li><a href="/rarity">Rarity</a></li> <li><a href="/applejack">Apple Jack</a></li> <li><a href="/rainbowdash">Rainbow Dash</a></li> <li><a href="/fluttershy">Fluttershy</a></li> </li> Let's say I want to go to /twilightsparkle. I tap on the drop-down link, 'Mane Five'. The drop-down box pops up, but not long before I am sent to /manefive. The workaround is to hold on the drop-down link until it pops up, but this doesn't work on all sites. Furthermore, some responsive sites love using fancy JQuery animations built to be efficient on desktop but just slow mobile browsers down. I mean, it's really down to poor coding that ruins the experience. Yes, see above.
  10. I played it on the Xbox One today and I really like the game. The one downside is that it feels too much like Titanfall - the shooting mechanics seems too point-and-shoot-like. I'd prefer more weapon customalisibility and more weapon realism.
  11. It'd be great to open source it, though. Git shouldn't be hard to implement.
  12. This is happening in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, which is where I come from (I live in London, UK now). I believe this phenomenon is caused by factory pollution, as there are many factories in the Wenzhou. Edit: it turns out that this is in a more rural area of Wenzhou (grandfather was born in the area) where factories are scarce. It may be dyes or red pollutants as this has happened to other rivers in the past few years, including the Yangtze river.
  13. This already somewhat exists. It's called OAuth. With the OAuth protocol, we can utilise existing authentication services (such as Google accounts and Poniverse accounts) in order for authentication to depend on their servers rather than yours. The disadvantage is that if your account is compromised, then your presence on all sites is compromised. This is a bad idea for the hypothetical idea of having it for the whole web. Back to 'somewhat exists', seeing as Google's servers are very secure, if you use two-factor authentication with them, then the risks of being compromised are next to zero.
  14. Seeing as this is a casual project, I think it would be more appropriate to make the code open-source and available on GitHub. You will not only receive help easier, but it is also better to build up a portfolio of your work. Bear in mind most developers don't have an MLPF account, but if you direct users to your GitHub page, then they will be able to directly help.
  15. I have no idea what the concept of Destiny is (MMO? FPS?) but I'll play the beta today, hopefully.
  16. I don't have any experience with 3D programming, but I'll see if I can get people who do to post here.
  17. ^ This. Racism is when one believes that a particular race is superior to another. Is it? No. Zecora is here for culture diversity. In fact, the very episode introducing Zecora revolved around learning that just because one is different, one should not be subject to discrimination and should instead be treated like everyone else.
  18. British people use celsius. Seeing as us British people are the English-speaking centre of the metric system, use celsius or HM Queen Elizabeth II will not be happy.
  19. ITT: people saying that they are a "grammar nazi", while totally ignoring the fact that "Grammar Nazi" is a pronoun. Also, please see StackExchange for a small debate on the use of GN: http://meta.english.stackexchange.com/questions/3/grammar-nazis
  20. The CMC should not get their cutie marks, unless the show would be scheduled for definite cancellation. This is because their lack of cutie marks is a major plot device. Their existence would not be significant in the show (i.e., they'd rather be background ponies) if they had cutie marks.
  21. As with all forum communities, staff members hold the final decision. Staff members tend to take actions in the best interest of the community, whether members like it or not.
  22. What playstyles are there? I usually play Battlefield 4, but it's not possible to compare ARMA 3's mechanics to it since apart from being FPSs, they're completely different.
  23. People should put in their best effort into typing grammatically correct sentences. It builds good habits. However, here's the thing: when people correct a single mistake which isn't very noticeable (i.e., not a common mistake such mixing up "they're" and "their") and then call themselves a "Grammar Nazi", they're just being overly pedantic. Sure, it's good to correct people's grammar when they obviously need to lrn2grammar, but if you're the person who goes around correcting people for the sake of it, then you're just being annoying and pedantic. So long as somebody's not typing all-lowercase while using numbers in place of letters, it doesn't bother me at all.
  24. For those of you who say 4chan is punishing them, ask yourself whether they should be punished, and ask yourself how. Because what 4chan is very good at doing is have sociopaths 'punish' other sociopaths. The very people sending DDoS attacks, sending SWAT teams around, trying to ruin the family's credit history and attempt to create as much debt for the household as possible through fraud do so in order to make themselves feel good. Their perverted sense of 'justice' is only fed by doing such things. Ideally, I'd like to see these girls locked up and forced to go through counselling (that's real justice), and the even sicker people involved in the operation spoken to by their authorities. @MasterCombine - The very people behind these operations as a whole are thirteen year olds craving a sense of power. By condoning 4chan operations, you're condoning the breeding of more sociopaths. The only mature way to deal with justice for teenagers is through restorative justice with an element of retributive justice. This way, the re-offending rate will be next to zero. But if you start having people committing doing the unthinkable to deliver retributive 'justice', then that is no longer 'justice', but pure hypocrisy. And the background I am speaking of is not only as a former moderator of the community I spoke about in #7, but I was very, very close to being subject to similar actions from angry, banned members before I changed my username and disappeared. Believe me, what these banned members almost did to me is what 4chan members tend to do in their 'operations' where they deliver 'justice'. Again, if you even saw what the twisted people do in these 'operations', you would want to turn every one of those people committing these horrible acts into the police and they would be locked up for a long time.
