  1. That's fair, that would probably work too. I'm not sure if that would solve the problems that I had with the music, since a movie would likely have a bigger budget and thus feasibly be able to improve on it. I do agree though, a lot of the story problems could have been solved with another 20 minutes or so.
  2. Okay, first of all, I want whoever reads this to know that I actually did enjoy the finale. It was really freaking good! However I have problems with it, some more important than others. Just so everyone is clear, the reason that I'm about to be harsh on it is because I enjoyed it, if that makes any sense. Most things were fantastic. The story was cool, Tirek was a pretty decent villain, the initial interaction between Tirek and Discord was awesome! I'm sure that many people will agree that the visuals were the best that we've seen in MLP, period. I honestly believe that my favorite part of the whole finale was the song with the princesses, but that doesn't mean that other parts weren't done really well too. And then there were a couple of things that weren't quite so fantastic. A lot of people would probably list this as a minor point, but the music really bugged me. It just... wasn't up to par with what I was seeing on the screen. Particularly during the end and the battle with Tirek, it just sounded so... standard. It was like a normal episode; closer to Applejack kicking a chimera in the face than two demigods in a battle for the fate of a planet. That really disappointed me, and I would love to see those ending scenes reorchestrated. Then, there was the ending with Discord: I liked it, right up until Discord had his friendship monologue... It felt so forced, and cheesy. They could have incorporated it so much better and not had it be so obvious that he was doing this monologue. Give it a moment of silence, give it some time to sink in that Twilight just gave up Equestria to save her friends, and make the viewer really question whether or not that was the right decision. Make the viewer realize that Twilight just sacrificed the lives of millions for the temporary freedom of six friends! Then, bring back the hope, open the box, shoot friendship railguns, etc, etc. It's not like the team can't do scenes like this, it was done exceptionally well in Return of Harmony. Just... urgh... As my final thought, I think that the main problem with the episodes was that it was a 2-part season finale. Why is this a problem? Because I honestly think that this should have been a full-length movie instead. I fully believe that all of the problems that I mentioned could have been solved if they had been given more time, and they could have made the really good parts even better. Think of what they could have done with Tirek if they were given an extra 45 minutes! Or the fear spreading over the population of Equestria as their magic energy was being stolen! I have no deep hatred for Equestria Girls (it actually turned out to be much better than I expected), but Hasbro, this is the movie that we wanted! Lastly, yes, as many people seem to do, I am judging this on a level with films like Schindler's List and Cloud Atlas rather than what an 8-year old girl would typically watch. It's just... when you have something that's already this good, how hard would it be to take it the one step further to make it fantastic? Again, I really did enjoy the finale, but I feel like it could have (and should have) been so much better.
  3. To be honest, it was really awkward. I'm not a social person at all, and I don't dance. My 'date' was a friend who somehow agreed to go with me (and thank goodness for that, since she's infinitely more socially useful than I am). However, I'm still glad that I went (if anything, the food that they served was good). Not a life-changing experience, but it was still fun.
  4. @,@@Leafeon It took a moment before Jacques realized that the girl had been addressing him. "Ah, er, hello!" he said, his face reddening slightly. "Heheh, yes, the Mienfoo is mine." He looked over to Karel, who was now bouncing around the Growlithe, squeaking happily, as if trying to get it to chase him. Just as he was landing one of his bounces, the ship rocked in an unexpected way, and the fighting-type fell face-first into the deck. This didn't phase the little Mienfoo though, and after hopping back up and shaking his head he went right back to the Growlithe. "My other pokemon aren't exactly playful, so having a friend that can keep up with him pretty much puts him in heaven." He thought on how to continue the conversation. Just leaving it there would be rude, right? Well, he knew that the girl was a Seeker, should he ask about that? He did want to learn more about them, specifically what they knew about the legendary dragons of Unova. But would that be an awkward thing to ask? Having been in Unova for only a day, he didn't really know if it was socially acceptable to talk about that sort of thing. No, I'll ask later... maybe, he decided. He finally decided to continue on the subject of their pokemon. "Um, so, you have a Snivy on your team, right?" he began. "How is he... or she... doing? I remember him... or, um, her... being an interesting character."
  5. I think it's quite obvious that you've been recognized as the Chosen One, prophesized to bring balance to kids shows and unite all of them beneath the glorious banner of the Great and Holy Hasbronan EmpireTM. That, or your destiny is to be horrifically sacrificed before a golden idol of Pinkie Pie, you can never really tell with these darn prophesies.
  6. @@Leafeon, @, Jacques's eyes widened in surprise when Cecil mentioned having obtained a second badge! He would have assumed it a wild boast until a breeze made the two badges visible for a moment. Two badges... in one day? he thought to himself, very much impressed. Does this guy sleep? After a moment, he realized that the other trainer had just introduced himself and blurted out, "Er, right, I'm Jacques, from Kalos. Pleasure to meet you as well!" It was then that he heard about the boat to Castelia that was just about to leave. Oh thank goodness, he thought with relief, glad to leave this city behind him. Hopefully, this Castelia City would give off a much better vibe. He nodded to the man on the barrel in thanks, then looked to his pokemon and called out, "Right, you heard him Karel. Let's get going!" The Mienfoo was somewhat disappointed to have to leave the company of the friendly Growlithe, but brightened as soon as he realized that they were going in the same direction. Jacques was rather pleased as well that they were going in the same direction. He always felt more comfortable when he was around people that he knew. Even though he had just met Cecil, it was significantly more than he could say about anyone else. At the boat, Jacques also noticed the familiar purple-haired girl. He was never really good socially, so he chose to not say anything, but he did stand close enough to hear the conversation; trying his best to look like he wasn't paying any attention, so as to not appear creepy.
  7. http://stilldrinking.org/ My coworkers find the best articles.
  8. Jacques was surprised to see the familiar face, and even more surprised that this person apparently recognized him. If he remembered correctly, this had been the first challenger that he saw. "Oh! Er... hello. Yes, that was me, heheh. I suppose that you could say that I... wasn't really prepared for that fight... But no matter! It was the first time I've ever challenged a gym, so I can't say that I was surprised." He then thought back to the battle he had watched between Cheren and this trainer, remembering how close it had seemed in the final moments. "By the way, that was a fantastic battle the other day! Truly it was one of the more exciting fights that I've witnessed. Your team really seems to know what it's doing!" "Foo?" Karel responded to the furry four-legged pokemon. He had never seen this pokemon before, and was surprised by its curiosity. Usually he was the one going up to strange pokemon, though he would poke them rather than sniff them. Suddenly, all of the anxiety about the city was forgotten, and Karel jumped up with an excited, "Foo!" and smacked the other pokemon playfully on its head.
  9. It was a new day, and Jacques was determined to make it count. As usual, he didn't quite know how this would be accomplished, but he was determined to do so. Pulling out a map from his bag, he scanned it to see if anything caught his eye. There was one place, smack dab in the middle of the region that stood out: Castelia City. It wasn't even too far away! He could probably make it there before the end of the day, assuming that there were boats that went there from the other city on this side of the water, apparently called Virbank. Without a boat... well, maybe it would take a bit longer. But he'd cross that bridge (or, in this case, lack of bridge) when he got there. Jacques did not like Virbank City at all. The place was big, imposing, and it just felt overall unwelcoming. Even Karel felt uneasy about the place, and stayed close by his trainer. Jacques knew that he should probably spend some time with Ajax outside of his poke ball, but this was certainly not the place. If anything, he was partially afraid that the polluted air was flammable, and releasing the fire-maned pokemon would cause the entire city to be consumed in a fiery explosion. The notion was, of course, ridiculous, but he couldn't help but be cautious. He also had to flinch when he saw a shady man in an alleyway lighting a cigarette. After what seemed like ages, he finally made it to some form of port. Quickly, he went to the first person that he saw near the docks and asked, "Is there any sort of boat, or anything, that can get me to Castelia from here?" He was half-pleading at this point, and very anxious to get out of this city.
  10. I'd probably have to go with Alakazam. Not Mega-Alakazam though, that beard just looks so stupid to me... That's okay though, because I like Magic Guard as an ability better anyways. I'm also suddenly getting a fondness for Aerodactyl (more specifically, its mega-form). As for legendaries, it's easily Ho-oh. I don't know why, but I just really like it's design and the lore behind it (and Sacred Fire is amazing). I want to try and get a Regenerator Ho-oh at some point, but I don't have the poke radar.
  11. If you want to get technical, no one can really post a picture of themselves at the current moment, unless it is some form of constant live stream. All of our pictures show us in the past, it just varies how far in the past they are. You should be fine.
  12. My idea wouldn't exactly be a 'house', it would be a movie theater advertising a full-length MLP movie where all of the characters remain as ponies. Once the audience was seated, the exit doors would lock, and there could be no escape. The previews would run (which would, of course, be no less than 13 repetitions of the Gak commercial), and then it would proceed with a 10-hour loop of the following:
  13. ((Ah, my apologies, I should have mentioned that I wasn't really expecting a response. It just seemed like a good place to end the post.)) Unova was a weird region. In Kalos, almost every town had an inn where weary travelers were able to rest for the night. This was apparently not the case here. It took some time before Jacques finally worked up the courage to awkwardly ask one of the town residents about where he might be able to stay, and they told him that the local pokemon center would work fine. It seemed as though they had been telling the truth, and the nurses happily found him and his pokemon a warm bed to stay in. His first day in Unova had been an interesting one to say the least. Though he hadn't travelled very far, so much had happened that he had to wonder what could possibly be waiting for him tomorrow? It was with these thoughts that sleep finally claimed him.
  14. Did they just turn the Equestria Games into a Spike episode? I... wasn't expecting that. (Note that I did not read any of the synopses.) All in all, I'd say that it wasn't bad. I thought that the message at the end was really good, I'm just not sure that I cared for how they got to it. I don't know, maybe I was just expecting a little bit more since they've pretty much been building up to this episode since last season. Overall, it was okay. In any case, we'll see what the finale has in store for us next week. I usually don't like to hype myself up for this kind of stuff, but the promo commercial is making it look pretty awesome!
  15. @@Leafeon, Jacques was stunned into silence. Had... that just worked? Judging by the responding snort and the fact that the Ponyta had violently kicked the ball back at him gave him the impression that this pokemon had had no intentions of being caught. Who knows though, maybe he just didn't understand Ponytas? Finally, joy swept over his face. "Haha! We did it!" he exclaimed. Karel jumped up and let out an excited, "Foo!" and even Mara looked somewhat impressed. Without skipping a beat, he released the newly caught Ponyta from its ball as well. The Ponyta was not quite so excited. It's expression was a mix of surprise and irritation. What had just happened? Did the trainer just trick him into catching himself? Why hadn't he been able to get away? These questions plagued the Ponyta, but there was nothing to be done about it now. However, he'd be damned if he didn't give this trainer a hard time for tricking him like that! "So, you're going to need a name..." Jaques mused, oblivious to the pokemon's anger. "Hm... how about... Ajax? What do you think about Ajax as a name?" Karel squeaked in approval, though that wasn't what Jacques was looking for. The Ponyta looked on with indifference. What was the point of a name? It wasn't like he planned to listen anyways. "O...kay... Well then Ajax it is! Welcome to the team!" With that, he gave the fire type a hearty pat on the neck. He realized that this had been a terrible idea when he felt searing pain in the hand that had crossed the Ponyta's mane. "Ah!" he shrieked, pulling away the burned hand. "Alright, we're not quite at that stage yet. That's fine." Ajax watched with amusement. Afterwards, Jacques returned all of his pokemon, and headed back towards Floccesy Town. It was getting late, and he needed a place to sleep. Tomorrow, he would head off to... somewhere. He wasn't quite sure where that was, but it would definitely be somewhere.
  16. As the wild Ponyta began to approach, Jacques looked away. He had heard from somewhere that wild pokemon would often be nervous if you looked them in the eyes. Though he couldn't see it, he could hear it coming closer, and eventually feel the fire type start to eat from his hand. At this, he smiled, until he felt a sharp jab of pain in said hand. "Ow! Owowow!" he cried out, jumping back and clutching his wounded hand. He looked at the Ponyta in wide-eyed confusion, and then for some reason he started to laugh. He couldn't say why, but he found this so funny! "Haha! You're quite the interesting one!" he said to the Ponyta. Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind. Could this be the pokemon he was looking for? He liked it well enough, and he was looking for a Ponyta. It was possible that the fire type didn't like him and would flat out refuse his offer, but he wouldn't know until he tried. "Hey... so I was curious... I'm looking for a companion to help me out; particularly a fast companion who can help me get from place to place." He then released Karel and Mara from their poke balls so that the Ponyta could see them. "I wanted to know if you would like to... er... if you would like to join us? I admit, we're not particularly strong right now, and we're honestly not aiming to be League Champions or anything, but we're hoping to make a name for ourselves in this world, whatever it may be." Finally, he pulled a poke ball from his pack, and rolled it towards the Ponyta. "So yeah," he said, "it's your choice. I won't force you or anything, but I do think you'd be a valuable addition to our team."
  17. What did I just watch? Well, the obvious (and true) answer is the third Madoka Magica movie, but I reiterate: what did I just watch?

  18. The hoof hit Karel's head with a smack, sending him stumbling backwards. He realized that he should have had a Detect ready beforehand (that was usually a safe thing to do before going off and doing stupid things), but it wasn't a problem. He could just go ahead and do that now. Jacques finally noticed what the little Mienfoo was getting up to, and was less than pleased. "Nonononono!" he called out. "We're supposed to be making friends with them, not antagonizing them!" He ran up and tried to grab the pokemon by the scruff of his neck, but the already prepared Detect had given him dramatically heightened senses which allowed him to dodge the grab with ease. That having failed, and with Karel already walking towards the wild Ponyta again, Jacques just tackled the Mienfoo to the ground. With the squirming fighting type pinned underneath him, Jacques looked up to the Ponyta and said, "I sincerely apologize. I really need to keep a better eye on this guy..." Then, remembering that poke balls existed, he fished Karel's out of his jacket and returned him. He stood up, and began to brush the dust off of his clothes. Catching pokemon is difficult, he thought with a sigh as he looked at the Ponyta. He hardly knew how he had caught the pokemon he had! For Mara, several years ago, he had just thrown a quick ball out of impulse, hoping that the Abra wouldn't teleport away, and oddly that worked. As for Karel, he had just started following him when he was on his way to the ship that would take him to Unova, and had happily agreed to join him on the journey. Jacques went into his backpack and pulled out a bag of food that most pokemon seemed to like (or, at least his pokemon would eat it). He grabbed a handful of it and offered it to the Ponyta. "Here, for the trouble that my Mienfoo caused you," he told it. "You don't have to eat it out of my hand, but I didn't think that you would want to eat it off of the ground."
  19. Right, but wasn't that the same castle that they defeated Nightmare Moon in during the first two episodes? Or am I getting something wrong (which is highly possible, I only saw Castle Mane-ia once)?
  20. I don't think that it was specifically stated, but the castle Spike got the book from looked like the castle in the Everfree forest, and I don't know of any other abandoned castles that it could be.
  21. I actually thought that she had said "Derp Magic" for a moment... Also, has anyone else noticed how nonchalantly they go to the abandoned castle now? In the first episode, it was this terrifying adventure though *gasp* THE EVERFREE FOREST but now it's more like, "Eh, we're going to the the Princesses' old castle now. See ya later."
  22. Oh wow, that was much better than I had expected! For the first half or so, I could only see it as a combination of a bunch of other episodes (Lesson Zero, Secret of My Excess, Cutie Pox...), but then it got really good. Instead of Rarity realizing what she was doing wrong, it was Spike who had to put his friendship with Rarity on the line so that he could help her. It was an interesting concept for an episode, and it was presented very well in my opinion. Most importantly though, we have the return of Octavia! Okay, maybe not most importantly, but it was appreciated. She hasn't been seen since mid-season 2 (in Sweet and Elite). It was getting to the point where I just figured that the show staff had forgotten about her. Overall, a great episode, and it's very possibly my favorite Spike episode. I'd also venture to say that it's one of the better episodes of the whole season. Not the best, but it's certainly up in the 'above average' category.
  23. Karel appeared unfazed by the Ponyta's obvious warning, though he did stop squeaking. There wasn't really a point to it once he had gotten their attention. The Mienfoo looked on curiously. He had never actually seen a Ponyta either. Admittedly, they were quite impressive. He had to wonder what this Ponyta would do if... No, that was a monstrously stupid idea. But then again, what was the worst that could happen? Ignoring all of his rational senses, Karel walked up to the Ponyta, trying to look as non-threatening as possible, and poked it.
  24. Is... is that a Sylveon pony in your avatar? That's so cute! Anyways, hello Sugar and welcome to the forums! You've come to the right place to find friends; from experience, I can say that most people around here are quite friendly. Depending on where you live though, hanging out may be difficult... We're sort of spread out across the globe. In any case, once again, welcome, and I hope to see you around!
  25. Jacques nodded. "Er, thank you, I will," he said. "I'll be back someday. Perhaps not soon, but I'll be back." And he meant it; he was determined to challenge Cheren again one day after he had learned more and become stronger. Then perhaps there would be a different outcome. _____________________ Magical time skip to Flocessy Ranch (unless you have objections to this of course) After the defeat in his first gym leader battle, Jacques decided to shift his focus. He wouldn't be rash and rush into battle like he had this time. Next time he faced off against a gym leader, he would be prepared. In the mean time though, he wanted to learn more about the region and its pokemon. Exploring would be fun, and he and his companions could get stronger along the way. However, walking was a terribly slow means of getting from place to place. That was why he had come to the ranch. He was going to catch a Ponyta. In truth, he had never actually seen a Ponyta before, though the descriptions from the locals made it sound like they would be hard to miss. Supposedly, Ponyta made great companions, and would even allow people to ride them without burning them if you gained their trust. Jacques figured that that would be the hard part; gaining its trust. Actually riding it couldn't be too hard. It was basically just sitting, right? Jacques leaned against the fence of the paddock, watching the wild pokemon within. As he expected, the fiery manes and tails made it very difficult to mistake Ponyta for anything else. They truly were beautiful, though terrifying at the same time. He started to wonder whether or not this was a good idea, but an impatient squeak from Karel snapped him out of his doubts. Jacques had promised to get another companion in this ranch, and the Mienfoo would see to it that he kept his word. The trainer entered the paddock cautiously, an unused poke ball in hand. "So," he called out to a group of nearby Ponyta, "any of you have any desire to join me?" He honestly didn't know if they could even understand him, but he supposed it didn't hurt to try. He wasn't really a fan of the whole 'beat the pokemon into submission and catch them while they're too weak to resist' technique. "I'll be traveling all across Unova, if any of you are sightseers. I may even return to Kalos at some point..." Karel sighed and facepalmed at his trainer's stupidity, then marched up to the nearest Ponyta and began squeaking at it to get its attention.
