Could Rarity ever become as powerful as Twilight Sparkle?

Exactly, as seen in Twilight's Kingdom, she has a huge power but she doesn't control it very well. She still has some progress to make.

No, but let me explain why I believe this.

 

First off, since Twilight Sparkle was young, she had always had an incredible interest in Magic.

 

She studied, studied some more, and while now she's even a princess, she still continues to study.

 

Basically, Twilight has studied Magic her entire life.

 

That automatically gives her an advantage, tons of experience and practice with it.

 

Second, Twilight's cutie mark is the symbol of Magic, and she's the element of Magic.

 

Magic, Magic, Magic!

 

Now for Rarity.

 

Rarity is skilled in her magic, but not near as much as Twilight.

 

Rarity didn't spend her entire life focusing on her studies in magic, didn't go to a special school for it.

 

While Rarity can do simple magic, as levitation and such, even a special spell that relates to her special talent, I still don't feel where she's currently at could come close to what Twilight can really do.

 

As I said, Twi spent years when she was a filly, to current date obsessing over Magic.

 

It just seems that Twilight (obviously) had a huge head start at Magic, I just don't see Rarity ever becoming as powerful as Twilight.

Twilight has studied magic since she was a filly, and she is of course the element of magic and loves it more than anything else, while Rarity isn't a pro at magic she uses it for fashion designing and making outfits. Honestly I don't think Rarity could be as good as Twilight.

I don't think so, that would be a stretch for Rarity since she has spells and magic that coincides with her work in fashion. She just puts combat on the sidelines and she's never one for fighting and extreme study in magic as much as Twilight being the fashionita unicorn she is.

Twilight holds strength but Rarity holds dexterity. She has been shown manipulating many things precisely compared to twilight who usually takes one or two things at a time. Unless they are books then she just grabs hundreds.

Upon further thought on this,i wouldn't honestly mind if Rarity did become more powerful than Twilight(for whatever reason) for no more than one episode,if only to honestly see the fandoms reaction to it.

Doubtful. Even before becoming an Alicorn, Twilight was an academic who dedicated her life to the study of spells. Rarity's interests are much different. She's a fashion designer, and a proper lady, who doesn't like getting her hooves dirty, or the possibility of chipping a hoof. Of course she'd make a point of learning magic that makes her life easier, cleaner and/or less labour intensive. That's really all the magic she needs for her line of work and her preferred lifestyle. I'm sure most unicorns are like that. Their magic would be oriented towards their lifestyle and their vocation.

 

Obviously Unicorns like Shining Armor have studied hard, just like Twilight, so they'd know more offensive magic and Defense Against the Dark Arts type stuff, and Shining Armor is the captain of the royal guard, so of course he'd learn military magic. A fashion designer in Ponyville wouldn't have any reason to bother with that kind of magic, keeping in mind that Rarity has only been with the rest of the mane six for maybe a few years tops in Equestria time.

Well I for one think that she is already more powerful than twilight I mean We havent even seen Twilight doing much magic these days  Im quite sure that Raritys magical pontetial is better than Twilights

ok yeah so there's the art of the dress thingy thing where she's just levitating a bunch of things and spinning them and SINGING WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT. then near the end of season 9, she uses her magic to block a rock or something i think, and she does start sweating. from what we've seen, i think i can determine she might have some raw magic that she doesn't know she has yet but she would have to put in a lot of effort to match twilight. but of course, it she puts her mind to it, then obviously she can do it (with hard work)  AND SHE IS BEST PONY AND I'D RATHER HAVE HER AS AN ALICORN THAN TWILIGHT

Maybe but she would need to train and study a lot and that's not really how she wants to spend her time. Kinda like asking if Twilight could ever have Rarity's fashion sense, though actually that might be a lot harder.

I would have to say no. No matter how much she trained, Rarity would still be held back by her cutie-mark. It has been stated that almost all unicorns have just a little bit of magic that is meant for the purpose of their cutie mark (the exception being unicorns with magic as a talent). The most advanced magic Rarity could do would have to be related to and used for fashion.

I would say no. But I think their strengths are radically different; in terms of sheer power, Twilight has Rarity beat. BUT I think Rarity's speciality, and one she constantly practises, is very fine and precise kinetic magic. Think about it; she uses her magic to work needles, sewing, placing buttons/sequins/appliques/gems, all sewing requires exceptionally fine dextrous movement. Sure, Twilight could mimic Rarity's gemfinding spell, but I still feel Rarity can do the spell a more more intuitively (i.e. she wouldn't need to concentrate that much to do it or can find much smaller fragments as well as large ones).

So yeah. Twilight can throw a Kamehameha but Rarity can thread a needle blindfolded upside down and using the eyelash of a fly.
