Why Are Bronies Disliked?

Aureity

The only reasons I can fathom are the people who are homophobic and believe liking something "girly" makes you gay. Also people might wonder why someone might like a little girl show unless they want to get closer to little girls and thus are pedophiles. those people tend to see the world in a narrow and judgemental viewpoint.

Well there's the negative media coverage for starters have helped ignite these stereotypes.

Based on my observations it seems that people also have preconceived notions that males in the fandom are;

-Autistic (like me)

-Homosexual.

-Unemployed manchildren who live in their mother's basement.

-Pedophiles.

-Some other form of pervert.

-Trolls or being sarcastic since this phenomenon originated on 4chan.

-Others also seemed to be annoyed at having ponies 'ruining' they're beloved franchises or media in fanart, fanfics, or youtube videos online-when they could simply just not view them.

For a large group of ignorant people it is utterly inconceivable for them to be a fan of the show outside of its target demographic and not fall into any of these categories.

And sadly very few people get their knee-jerk reaction to take the time to educate themselves better before making a final judgment to say 'Well, it's not my thing-but I guess there's nothing wrong with it.'

Instead, because they have nothing better to do with their time to attack others who enjoy the show.

(Sorry for the long post.)

I think it's just inherent for people to reject anything unfamiliar that they do not understand,  humans hate change and the idea that a group of men/teenagers are breaking the social "norm" and watching a show for little girls is so unfamiliar and scary to them they hate it out of a lack of understanding.

Some people just have no sense of humor and they get provoked by the slightest offensive joke even when it's just the internet

Yes I know it's an old post, but I just now saw it.

I'd argue that this project does have merit because it's using the extreme contrast of the two subjects, as well as the effect inserting something the viewer holds close into the image to drive the point home and pound the full weight of the scene in.

I guess that people just think its weird in the first place to watch a show that is aimed at kids. Not to add but not just kids but "girls". And its the simple reaction of. What the hell is this person gay or a pedophile? Common reaction I have witnessed.

Well some bronies can be quite annoying, a funny encounter i had  with another brony happened to me not long ago i was eating lunch with my girlfriend and i was wearing my Fluttershy yay shirt and out of no where another fellow brony taps me and the shoulder and says cool shirt and puts his fist out to brohoof and i'm like cool nice to meet you man. i thought the conversation was over it was not...... he pulled up a chair uninvited and started talking about the show my girlfriend who was not a brony started to feel quite uncomfortable and i tried giving him subtle hints to leave, he didn't this went for about 5 minuets until i had to tell him straight up to leave.

I think why some people hate bronies is because some bronies don't know sometimes its not appropriate to post ponies or talk about ponies but for those people who go out of the way to hate well there just sad people who don't want us as bronies to be happy liking a show so there are two sides to the story but still hating is bad

Everyone's human, we've all judged each other at least once in our lives, and at some point in our lives we learn how to know that it's all wrong and we ignore it, because if you judge them back and bash on them raging at them, it both feeds them and makes you look like an idiot, also it makes you no different because you're judging them fro what they do, treat them like the jerk who never makes a point, or the inspirational speaker that doesn't inspire, you ignore them, and don't get changed by them because you don't want to just kill your opinion and make yourself someone you aren't just because one person over the internet is bullying you, its not worth it.  none of it is worth wasting time replying to comments that are blocked, no one cares they're blocked for a reason.

Just a random thing that came to mind: In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on Nick, Splinter said one of the best lines, he said he was the one who turned those words into weapons, i loved that line so much! don't be hurt by the gibberish that tumbles from their mouth to your monitor.

A couple reasons, some rational some not. I believe most people who hate bronies do so out of an idiotic belief that bronies are either pedophiles or zoophiliacs, some hate them simply for liking a little girls (or just a little kid's) show. Others, however, hate bronies because, from what I've heard on numerous occasions, some bronies love to show their love of the show in the faces of people who have no interest in the show, and try to "convert" (aka, try to force people who don't want to watch the show into watching it so they'll become bronies too).

My advice to bronies who fit the latter category is to understand that not everyone will like this show, even if they were to watch every single episode. You can try to show a friend, for example, the show and suggest that they watch it, but don't be like "CMON YOU GOTTA WATCH IT CMON", if they don't want to, they don't want to. Understand when your insistence that they watch it becomes an annoyance, and don't let it get to that point.

The only way on how to fully understand why "haters" hate bronies so much is to take a look into their mind and see if any of them have had anything that was wrong with them. Say as in bullying or something.

The majority of them as you have said, do in fact say that because they mostly want to show off in front of people and sometimes just want to show you off, or make you feel embarassed in front of a crowd. (which doesn't usually work at all)

Being a brony myself, (of course) I think that they say that because yes, It was originally meant for 5-year old girls, and they have never seen the show before.

But Pokemon was pretty much the same, but yet you see people around their teens watching it, and playing the games, and same as Yu-Gi-Oh!.

That ends my daily rant for today.

I think a lot of people associate bronies with being gay and unfortunately many people are homophobic. When they learn that not all bronies are gay and there are hetero males that enjoy the show, it can make them feel insecure about their own gender and social norms. I think most people who hate on bronies are just uncomfortable with their own lives and sexuality and therefore feel threatened by a male population who are comfortable enough with themselves to watch and enjoy adorable pastel colored ponies. I also think this goes along with the ages of bronies. People are unwilling to try and experience new things and they are blinded by the fact that MLP is marketed to young girls. Some people can't see past that.

A better reason why:

1. Some bronies are just as bad as the non-bronies say, and haters begin to generalize the whole fanbase as those people.

2. Clopping. While R34 does exists in nearly every fandom, MLP is one of the few that has these people to a massive extent. Now I'm not saying clopping is bad, but cartoon porn is something that fires up a lot of controversy.

3. Conversion. Some bronies do this, mostly to get even more people to like the show. This is a very annoying action to non-bronies, and would be a good reason why they hate the fandom (they don't always need to hate the show).

4. A few people actually watch the show and don't like it, which is reasonable. MLP isn't all that great of a show, and ironically, has stereotypes in it. The antagonists are almost always completely black in morality. The show is also littered with a bunch of Deus Ex Machina and BS endings. In my opinion, I think MLP is an okay show, but it should try better. I didn't exactly like Equestria Girls, and I'm uncertain about S4 after seeing all those promos and trailers.

5. Trolls. OMG AUTISTIC FAT PEDO FAGGOT!!! LOLOLOL!!!!11!!

At the end of the day, I think it's best to just not focus on the people that hate and judge Bronies, as negativity altogether is something we should not get our heads wrapped around. Focus instead on the positive people in your life that respect and accept you for who you are. Because the people who don't, well, they're just not worth spending any of your time on.

Well, some people are just close-minded jerks who have to have something to criticize, and bronies are an easy target.

Also, a lot of bronies are the most annoying thing on the world, so that doesn't help.

You mean besides the shallow "OMGdisdudeliekibabyshow" or pedophilia argument? Personally the only legit argument I can think of is that the fandom can be a very whiny bunch. Let's face it, the brony fandom is full of a lot of the biggest, loudest, and whiniest drama queens on the internet. I'm surprised that Rarity isn't the mascot of the fandom

The reason is because the fandom takes it way to far sometimes. You know that saying "A few bad apples spoiled the bunch?" Well, that applies here too.

I mean, having a pony avatar, signature, or both is fine, but it's another thing to go around pushing pony in everyone's faces. Things such as using "20% Cooler," "10 Seconds Flat," and other pony memes (two examples, which are both overused) being posted in non-pony threads are just ridiculous. That is what makes a lot of people hate us.

And to those saying "We are changing the definition of manly," let me say this. You need to face it, and you might come to realize this sooner or later, that watching a show made for little girls is NOT manly. Is there anything wrong with a man watching a show for the completely opposite gender and age? No, there isn't.

Now, I don't really like the whole "manly and feminine" theme, because everyone has their own interests.

I guess my point is, at some point a lot of people need to realize that no, this stint manly. No, this fandom isn't a revolution, changing the way we think of manly at all. No, not everyone is going to enjoy it. No, not everyone hates the fandom, they just hate that they have to deal with this being shoved down their throats.

Ok now, here's my two cents. There are three basic forms of Bronies; Form A is the "In the closet" secret bronies. Form B is the Basic brony, loves the show and essentially lives like any other normal person. But then, there is the dreaded Form C or as I like to call them the Hipster Group or HGroup. Now HGroup are the people who give bronies a bad name, always talking about ponies trying to shove them down non-bronies throats. If you join a TF2 game no doubt there will be pony sprays, now, I enjoy them but  HGroup takes pride in the fact that they're different and they take that pride to a stupid level. Sadly the HGroup is the few but the loudest, they are the face of the fandom, as sad as it may be.

Say I wasn't a brony. I stumble across these children cartoon pictures in a game.

>dontpayitnonevermind.jpg

>suddenly loud guy noticed me glancing at the picture.

>timetohunt.png

>swoops in and with no prior information assumes I'm having a go at the picture.

>"Blah blah blah ponies blah blah blah"

>Is THIS a brony? Man screw bronies!

Death of a good first impression.

Strange. I play TF2 and I occasionally see a brony.

There wasn't even a "masculine" and "feminine" category to begin with. It all boils down to which gender generally does what. A show can't do that, let alone a person, unless you were somehow able to change the personality of several billion people on the planet.

I do get why some people would think that we are annoying. Because sometimes I see other bronies doing nothing else except getting people that don't want to try to watch the show. But it highly "ticks" (Insert vulgar language here) me off when bronies at my school that have a physical or mental difficulties are made fun of. I'm not this guys friend but the fact that people set a stereotype from him and label us with it is extremely offensive to both me and probably him...

Dear God..

People hate bronies because they got sick and tired of ponies being everywhere and even more sick and tired of ones sticking the ponies down their neck while they don't give a flying fart, for lack of things to talk about (=able to talk only about ponies).

Noone hates bronies for the fact that they enjoy show for little girls. True haters hate them because of the pony cancer on the internet and because of the reasons above.

People laughing at bronies are just trolls, not haters. People finding bronies weird are not haters nor trolls, just non-bronies who don't give a crap abour your brony swag, just don't want to get involved and as long as you are able to talk about something else, they don't comment on it.

So please, stop promoting "haters" as people who are just too scared of being different (because being brony is SO F*CKING ORIGINAL [implying this forum has xy users] and is hipster as f*ck, because being brony is the only f*cking way to be fabulous and different and unique).

I'm done with talking.

I can confirm that there are haters like this. I remember two members on spyro forum saying that they didn't like it because it was all over the internet, because all forums were filled with colorful ponies. Other than that they don't really care and one of them even created a pony in pony creator for fun once.

I guess I've stated my opinion here before, but the more I look into it the more I get a bigger perspective, especially after reading everyone elses opinion. Honestly I can only state for my area and I guess internet wise. Granted I am a female, I dont have the fears of being ridiculed for liking the show, unlike men it seems, but that shouldn't mean men should be ridiculed for watching the show. I tend to argue that, if its ok for women to watch a football game, baseball, horrorflicks or transformers, then why isnt it ok for men to watch more feminine things? Its like theres no equality here.

Personally I dont let the ridicules of people hate bronies get to me, its overrated here I think, maybe theres more issues on the internet when it comes to bronies then anything else, but thats probably obvious. There are some clothing or geek shops that sell brony stuff, me and my nephew are bronies, we aren't ridculed for it. If all else it just says "yes we like ponies, its a cool fan thing, no different to like Star Trek or Game of Thrones". We dont have shame and we haven't personally been insulted for it, so meh... I guess I look away from insults, avoid those bronies that are trouble makers and just enjoy the show and merchandise

I'm just a silly little alicorn, trying to get by in the fandom ^^

The only answer I can come up with is skewed priorities and displaced anger, and I have seen people upset specifically that it's adult men watching a little girls' cartoon. Yeah, watching FiM as a 30-year-old man is a little strange. But it's downright sad that there are people more upset and vocal about it than they are about crime, violence, and tragedy.

Hmm... I know I posted in this topic before, but I'd just like to add that reading through everyone's responses gives me a better idea of perhaps where Bronies stand on people hating on Bronies and where haters are coming from.

To be honest, as a Brony there are members of other fandoms that annoy me, especially people who are really into Anime, which is a lot of people.

But I just learned to deal with them and kind of accept the whole thing. I mean, I like a few Animes, but I feel like some people shove it into my face. I just deal with it, though. Some people defend people who attack Bronies and say that Bronies are obnoxious and shove it in peoples faces. One, that's generalizing. I don't even rarely talk about the show with anyone I know, not even online. I keep all pony talk to Bronies, and only indulge with people who aren't fans if they want to know more.

Moreover, yes, there are obnoxious Bronies. That's no secret. I see it all the time myself. But there are obnoxious fans of every fandom. Pokemon. Homestuck. Football. Don't even get me started on Football. I like Football myself, but people get very crazy about it. I guess sports in general fall under that purview. Regardless, I think what's needed is for people to learn to tolerate each other. If someone is being obnoxious, don't attack them, let them know kindly. If they continue, they're just a toxic person. Don't hate and generalize an entire group of people because you had bad experiences. I guess some people have bad luck and only run into obnoxious fans, but I wouldn't let that get to me either. Just about everyone I meet online in Call of Duty are freaking obnoxious, but I know there are plenty of people who play it who aren't.

I dunno if there was a point to what I was saying, but I just feel like it's unfair to bash Bronies solely and not take a step back and see that perhaps learning to deal with the fact that some fans are just obnoxious is just as important as recognizing that some Bronies are to blame.

Because we live in a time where is someone likes Sonething different, you're hated. Why do they hate? Is theresomething wrong with accepting people? Nowadays people are just ignorant, they dont think. Do they not realize what type of person they're putting themselves off as? You could see your best friend become your worst enemy. People live the drama, the things like this. They do not realize their wrongs until it's too late to take it all back. And that's if they ever realize they're being stupid!
