How to make the Rainbow Power different from the Elements of Harmony

So while I was playing Kerbal Space Program the other day, I contemplated the new Rainbow Powers for the Mane 6. "Yep, they are needlessly girly and a rehash of the EoH" I thought, and then it hit me (I'm not talking about the beach ball that was thrown into my face), what if the Rainbow Powers were sentient?

What if it didn't just shoot rainbows at the villain right away and instead needed a reason to do this.

The thought reminds me of the Moment from the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode, and how it wouldn't just destroy a planet on command. It would talk with the user, telling him/her why they shouldn't do an act of destruction, and bring logic and reason into the conflict.

The Rainbow Powers could be like this. Instead of obeying, the Rainbow Powers would have to be summoned, and reasoned with. It also would need proof, like acts of friendship similar to the ones the Mane 6 went through during S4, or a lesson they learned.

This would make the Rainbow Powers it's own thing, and not just a rehash of the EoH. It would also give deeper character development to the Mane 6, as well as others like Celestia, Discord, and Luna. However I doubt it will be a thing on the show. Even though, what are your opinions on the subject?

Please let them use the Rainbow Power to do something insignificant next season, like opening a jar or something.

Honestly though, make it like Spawn. Meaning that it can only be used a finite amount of times because it disappears. That way the characters will know that they need to try and solve some situations on their own without the Rainbow Power.

Am I the only one who assumed they were a one time thing? Like the box was a seed to plant the castle right? So, doesn't that mean they can't get their rainbow powers back anyway? Or did I miss something?

I hope it's the case. I don't want to see them again...:eww:

It would be interesting to see the mane 6 defeating a villain without the help of the Elements of Harmony/Rainbow Powers.

I personally don't mind the Rainbow Powers, but I think it would be better if they disappeared after creating Twilight's castle in Ponyville and that now the Mane Six will have to rely on their own powers to defeat villains in the future.

I'm still waiting on Rainbow Dash to use the Sonic Rainboom to punch through a villain.

This sounds way too complicated for what Rainbow Power is suppose to be: A Deus Ex Machina

The only thing i can see changing about Rainbow Power is the Design when their in RP mode, perhaps something more subtle unless its a season ending final boss predicament.

I don't mind the RB designs(besides Rarity's),i actually like Pinkie's,but i guess they can be toned down since its apparently too much for some people(regardless of it being a temporary situation based power up).

Rainbow Power is here to stay and that's that. It wasn't a 'one time thing' as the mane 6 ARE the EOH now,so saying its a 'one time thing' is akin to saying the mane 6 won't be in season 5 or that they no longer represent their element.

Just like Twilicorn,Rainbow Power isn't going anywhere.

The way I understand it, Rainbow Power and the Elements of Harmony are, in effect, the same power in different forms. Both come directly from the Tree of Harmony, both require (at least for optimal performance) a connection between six ponies, both essentially epitomize the Magic of Friendship.
