Moog the Kvlt 1,460 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 Anyways, I finally got around to listening to Cult of Luna. I gave Eternal Kingdom a try and I really liked it. I'll probably listen to Somewhere Along the Highway next. Eternal Kingdom is so far my personal favorite Cult of Luna album, though Somewhere Along The Highway is pretty good too I love everything they have ever made, but Salvation and their self titled one are my personal favorites I STILL HAVEN'T LISTENED TO THEM YET, blah I should get to that sometime
Shred Guitar Brony 85 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 The new Dream Theater song is pretty damn cool! Can't wait for the album in september. The guitar work is quite interesting, I always love John's guitar solos. Also have some After The Burial Sig made by Youtube My Tumblr
Soundgarden 2,758 August 10, 2013 Share August 10, 2013 I gave Dissection a try. To be honest, I'm not familiar with Melodic Black Metal at all, but my first impression on the genre was a positive one I just downloaded Sunbather. I'll give it a listen later

Soundgarden 2,758 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 Some general shit I listened to yesterday: I discovered them just recently, and they're really cool. Nothing fancy or complex, but very enjoyable Stoner/Doom Metal I do love this album and all, but.... the production is way too loud and clean for my taste. It's such a shame, I feel like that's the only thing that hinders me from saying that this album is perfect
Stoney Pony 100 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 you know what's a good metal band is Scar Symmetry and Dream Theater im not that big of a metal guy but i respect the hell out of those bands for some reason. dream theater makes sense but i never thought i would like scar symmetry. Treeboy 418 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 I didn't like Sunbather at all when I first listened to it, and it took me a while to grow onto it, but now I really like that album and Deafheaven. I prefer Roads to Judah and their demo over Sunbather, funnily enough. They're all relatively around the same tier of great, though. Strange how Sunbather was their breakout release, rather than their debut. I've got a story that money just can't buy. Champion RD92 8,658 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 So I gave the new Dream Theater song "The Enemy Inside" a couple listens, and it seems pretty good. I might get the new album when it comes out, which is next month I think. I still need to get Metropolis pt. 2 though, I'm planning on getting that really soon. I've never been a Dream Theater fan, and this didn't win me over. For being a "progressive" band, they sure like to write verse-chorus-verse stuff a lot, don't they (not that all progressive music has to be all artsy-fartsy, but really)? I got the itch to listen to Sunbather again, so I'll do that now. Seems like an album that's giving people that aren't even into black metal (or matal in general) some worthwhile experiences. I've got a story that money just can't buy. ALBUM OF THE WEEK: The Knife - Shaking the Habitual
Champion RD92 8,658 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 For being a "progressive" band, they sure like to write verse-chorus-verse stuff a lot Not sure why that matters, lots of great songs are verse-chorus-verse. As I Am is a really great song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muiNqF_XJJc Also, do you not like the song Octavarium? I think that song is a masterpiece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LH_9lJxeiXg
Treeboy 418 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 Also, do you not like the song Octavarium? I think that song is a masterpiece. Octavarium has the notable distinction of being the only Dream Theater album I've made it through. I've tried Images and Words and Metropolis Part 2, and neither one appealed to me. I just think there are modern prog bands that are much more tasteful and engaging. Not bad, but not good. Anyway, everyone on this thread should hear Sunbather. Black metal fan or not, this is an extremely worthwhile listen for metal fans in general. I really like these interlude tracks. 1 I've got a story that money just can't buy. Champion RD92 8,658 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 In other news, I still really wanna get Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues by Between the Buried and Me. That's next on my list for albums I'm getting soon. And here's something from Parallax II I'm almost starting to like Parallax II just as much as Colors. It's amazing how I can listen to the album over and over and it just grows on me even more each time.

It's amazing how I can listen to the album over and over and it just grows on me even more each time. For a while, I almost liked Future Sequence more than Colors. After my fanboyishness died down, I saw things more clearly. On a slightly unrelated note, here's my BTBAM albums ranking: 1. Colors (duh) 2. The Silent Circus 3. The Parallax I & II 4. The Great Misdirect 5. Alaska 6. Self-titled If it wasn't for my #2 spot, I might not be on this thread right now. A very different BTBAM is on this album, however. Much more raw and energetic. I've got a story that money just can't buy. ALBUM OF THE WEEK: The Knife - Shaking the Habitual

I really need to give The Silent Circus another listen. That would most likely be the next album I would get by them after I get Parallax I. I couldn't really get into the self-titled album or The Great Misdirect. I like some of Alaska, mostly Selkies: The Endless Obsession. So far, Colors is my favorite, with Parallax II being my second favorite.
Treeboy 418 August 11, 2013 Share August 11, 2013 I couldn't really get into the self-titled album or The Great Misdirect. I like some of Alaska, mostly Selkies: The Endless Obsession. The self titled is definitely a mixed bag. It doesn't quite ring true to what BTBAM would become later, but it's got a ferocity about it that keeps it from being entirely forgettable. And Shevanel Cut a Flip is still one of their best tracks. As for The Great Misdirect, I'd call it a more formulaic version of Colors. It feels very cohesive, which can be good and bad. Colors had a little bit more unpredictability, which I'd say made it more interesting. I've got a story that money just can't buy. I'll be honest, Images and Words is the only DT album worth listening to. I tried listening to Octavarium once and I almost fell asleep. I've been listening to a lot of non-metal stuff lately, but since we're on the subject of prog, I'll leave some Atheist here. The self titled is definitely a mixed bag. Self-titled The rest: Just plain decent and not worth listening to more than once or twice on the occasion But then again I'm not even a fan of their self-titled, I just think that it's better than the rest of the shit they put out after that. PREDICTABLE POSTING FROM MOOG I'll be honest, Images and Words is the only DT album worth listening to. Crispy 5,563 August 13, 2013 Author Share August 13, 2013 I'll always have a place in my heart for The Silent Circus. Currently listening to Dead Swans, though. They've got an interesting feel to them. It's like what Defeater would sound like if they tried to cover the slower tunes by The Banner. Le Kvlt Dawn 2,364 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 (edited) Yea so I listened to Sunbather last night and I really liked it, it reminds me of a blackened Loveless. I'm listening to it again right now, I have a feeling it's going to be one of those albums that I burn countless hours of my life listening to. In other news, tomorrow is my first day of school. FML. Twiliscael 3,960 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 I listened to Sunbather as well, and I gotta say, it was one emotional ride for me. There's nothing I can say about this album that doesn't lead to an endless rant, so let's leave it to that Best two Sunbather tracks you posted up there, good job. I've been busy, haven't listened to much new music. though I sat through Asking Alexandria's newest album while in the car with a friend. I was surprised. It wasn't terrible, and i think that they've progressed a bit past SCENECORESTEPSHIT to something a bit greater. Don't expect me to ever listen to them again, but oh well. I've been drifting towards some good ol' SYL, though. I tend to take the high road, get stoned, and fly low . . .
Moog the Kvlt 1,460 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 Right now I'm listening to Salvation, and I love this album so far, definitely blows Eternal Kingdom right out of the water, so far this one's becoming my favorite CoL album Also I'll probably listen to some Sleep later http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nkun78T1y4
Soundgarden 2,758 August 13, 2013 Share August 13, 2013 (edited) I gave Coal a chance, since some people are kinda nagging about this being one of the best Prog releases of this year, yadda yadda, so here I am For the most parts, it felt really bland and boring. But if you practically live for the technical aspects of prog metal, I guess this can be an enjoyable piece. Not to say that this album didn't have it's moments, I pretty much fell in love with the last track. What a shame that it kind of feels out of place in this album. Leprous should have gone this direction for the album. It's a godly song The lyrics falls flat as well Edited August 13, 2013 by Erio Touwa
