Heard of them. Don't listen to them, as I've recently lost patience for power metal. Although Finesthour might like them. Heard of Blind Guardian, Ember?

Can't say I have, sorry. I've just been listening to odd songs on YouTube and I can't thank you enough for the recommendation. ^^

It's no problem. Two others I'd recommend would be Manowar (if you're looking for some really TRUE epic metal) and Devin Townsend (because that guy's hit so many styles of metal and rock it's not even funny!) :D

I'll be sure to check 'em out. Cheers.

To be quite honest, I only know about Thrash and Progressive metal.

Thrash: Evile, Sodom,

,
,
,
, Death Angel,
, Death,
, Anthrax,
, Annihilator (for your Canadian fix),
,

Progressive:

(STAY AWAY FROM THEIR LATEST ALBUM),
, Ayreon, Opeth, Devin Townsend (Terria and Ghost), Control Denied,
,
,

...sorry about that. Go listen when you have the time.

Really? You didn't like the newest Dream Theater album? I personally thought A Dramatic Turn Of Events was one of their best albums in years. Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about it?

Granted, the reason why I didn't like it was (shittiest excuse you'll ever hear incoming) Portnoy left. I'm a massive MP fan, but when he left, DT hasn't been the same for me. I tried over and over again, but I just couldn't get into that album. One thing I'm happy about is that it has Mangini, one of the most kickass drummers I've ever heard. His work in Annihilator is phenominal, and all the other bands he's been in has some of his greatest material. Besides, I wouldn't recommend that album immediately if you wanted to listen to some DT for the first time.

Ah. I assumed Portnoy was the reason. He was the reason I liked Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold so much. But, although it's not the best DT album, it's far from being the worst.

I'd still recommend other albums they made than ADTOE, even FIF. TOT was heavy, Octavarium was a bit poppy but catchy, SC was a combo of the last two, and BC&SL was depressive but well written. None of DT's albums are terrible, but ADTOE felt like it lacked... soul, for a lack of better term. What did you think was their worst release?

Dissapointed by the lack of Opeth in this thread.

From their album Watershed, this is a pretty beautiful track.

Also off of Watershed, Heir Apparant is the heaviest song they've ever made.

I also recommend Blackwater Park, Orchid, Damnation(Void of metal, still extremely amazing) Deliverance, and Ghost Reveries.

Probably Black Clouds And Silver Linings. It just felt gimmicky, for lack of a better word. Plus, Mike's "growling" in A Nightmare To Remember is just laughable.

I don't think Mike's trying to growl on that record, but valid point on how BC&SL is the weakest on DT's discography. I'd agree with you.

And I do have Ghost Reveries. The Baying Of the Hounds is phenominal. Would like to get Blackwater Park when I'm done clearing through the list of albums I already want.
