I love this band more than any other progressive (death) metal band. Especially this song. Although I didn't really like Heritage, even if I do like a lot of prog rock.

It's spelled ISIS.

"All caps when you spell the [band's] name." -sorta MF DOOM.

Fucking incredible. I just realized I left these guys out of my top fiddy, though. God... a-dammit.

Keeping in with the post metal posts, I'll post some Cult of Luna

Great band, and when I first heard them, I instantly fell in love.

Reposting for the new kids.

This song's gonna be on a first release by a band called Breath of Nibiru, so keep an eye out for it. It sounds like someone mixed their Joe Satriani with some extra prog.

Because of how much of a lazy fucker I can be, I waited till today to check out Ne Obliviscaris' "Portal of I," and I wish I had done so much sooner. I think I have a good idea of my top 5 albums of the year now, with this being at about number four or three.

Gah, this is such an awesome band. I made a mix tape for some of my friends a while back (I'm old skool yo) and I put some Ne Obliviscaris on that shiz. I believe it was this song:

This beginning of this song always was so interesting to me, especially as it progresses. Glad you posted these guys!

I too made a mix CD once. It was metal in all directions. This was one of the stranger cuts:

Drum machines and shit. I've mentioned how enamored I am with the vocals as well.

Posting some Be'Lakor. Has anypony heard their new album? I'm wondering if I should pick it up, and I might as well find out what the popular opinion is.

Progressive melodic death metal from the gods, at least with this masterpiece.

Tfw parents take away laptop. Let's have Djenty recap his day in music!

So today was full of Deku's recommendations. I listened to portions of As the Roots Undo on the bus ride this morning. When I got home, after getting my laptop taken away, I chilled out to basically half of GYBE's discography while reading Atlas Shrugged. Now I'm listening to an underrated album, Caress of Steel. Fun, right?

Here it comes, more INSTRUMENTAL BANDS:

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=hB75rvrv5YA

I find that most solo instrumental prog metal/ djent acts are severely talented and produce real quality music (Bulb, Sean Hall, Chimp Spanner to name a few). Cloudkicker is one of these bands. His stuff is the bee's knees.

You are the Coolest. I thought nobody else knew about Cloudkicker. He just released a new album in august and all his stuff is available for free download on his bandcamp.

Oh! and i also wanted to put And So I Watch You From Afar on here, there a smaller Irish band that does some really cool instrumental stuff.

So after listening to half of Miles Davis' "A Tribute to Jack Johnson," I finally got around to listening to The Ocean's "Heliocentric" the whole way through. It's pretty spectacular, though apparently many thought it was all downhill after Precambrian. This was my first Ocean record, so I don't see how that opinion can exist.

My favorite song from this album:

Nice picks, Djenty. Exmilitary is raw. And you know how I feel about ISIS.

I've been up to posting in the "rate song then post another" thread. Here's something from said escapades.

Dash Is Best Pony ranked it at 9/10, but letterONE gave it a 0, which was a bit upsetting :(.

Obscure post-hardcore with some post-rock influences snuck in. Nice to see that /mu/ can still give some great band recommendations. Wow, I've been keeping my music mellow recently.

Some quality crossover thrash. Better, in some cases, than Suicidal Tendencies.

Haha, it's a shame he doesn't get a whole of recognition; Ben Sharpe is a talented musician. Some of his early work, before Cloudkicker, is pretty spectacular. It's more atmospheric and ambient than metal, but amazing none-the-less.

Also, Djenty, to answer your inquiry, this is whats been cycling through my ears in the recent weeks:

And that pretty much sums it up. I also just recently found out Coheed and Cambria released their new album on the 9th, so I'm gonna grab that pretty soon and give that a thorough listen.

Why do I always find myself listening to Wormrot after football games?

And have the most popular song by Gorguts so that Djenty gets off my ass about "real" death metal.

(That's not to say I didn't enjoy the song :P)

Below in the spoiler I have included one of the shittiest debates I have ever taken part in. It happened a few minutes ago and severed a friendship with somebody I shouldn't have met in the first place.

He provided me with no reasonable argument and just kept being an asshole. It's okay to not like my music, but don't try to convince me that I shouldn't like it. That would be taking away a large majority of my listening.

Alright guys, I have a bone to pick with metal drumming.

Why is it so boring half the time? I love it when it's jazz-influenced, but it's usually just following the guitar the whole time. It's nice when bands like Deftones and ISIS utilize jazz-ier stuff. And Meshuggah. They're AMAZING at stuff like that. But then when I listen to Born of Osiris, it's just the drums acting like another guitar.

I know how you feel man, a lot of metal bands use really bland drumming. I guess that's how they feel that the drums should move into the song. However, jazz based drumming is amazing. Atheist does it so well, and (I'm sure you know them), but give them a listen for their drums. If you've already listened to them, give them another listen. Cynic too.

I'm sure you've listened to both, but I'd advise really listening for the jazz based parts of their songs.

Just posting some band I've been listening to lately.

Before I go into metal posting, lemme just say that Andrew Jackson Jihad's "People That Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People In the World" is a great album. Folk punk, if I'm correct.

It's funny how Death was one of the forerunners of death metal, and no other death metal band has really had much of an impact on me as much as they have. They just have such a solid instrumentation in their songs, plus Chuck pushed the boundaries of what death metal lyrics could be, with Death's works after "Spiritual Healing".
