"No true Brony..."

I've never heard of or met a fake Brony before. The only situation where I could see someone honestly being a "fake" Brony would be if they were trying to troll or something.

Uh... No. I don't really thing people who don't like/watch the show would pretend to like/watch the show.... That's like me pretending to eat a flip flop sandwitch when I not like, nor remotely find appealing a flip flop sandwitch.

It's like a "being different than the crowd" thing.

Where exactly have you met these "fake Bronies" at anyhow?

They were people I met in real life, I told them because they asked and the next week they tell me they are a brony.

Here's an almost exact conversation I had with him:

Person: "Hey, I think I am brony now."

Me: "Really?"

Person: "Yeah!"

Me: "What episode did you watch"

Person: "Well, I watched half an episode and to episodes of Pewdiepie because I thought it was stupid"

such foolishness

Well the guy did watch half an episode, apparently he thought that half of an episode was so good that he couldn't help himself.

I think that we can all safely say that just proves that this show is so awesome, it only takes ten minutes of it to make a guy a Brony.

Mission successful.

Well, that's why if I ever meet one in real life I make sure they're actually one. I'm a tad insecure someone would fake it to hurt me and learn things about me they could use against me.

At the very beginning when I first officially became a brony, I think I only had watched a season or less so I didn't know much or at all about the show so at meetups I pretended to know what they were talking about and I faked knowing lines and song lyrics

My cider brings all the ponies to the yard and they're like its better than yours, damn right it's better than yours. I can teach you, but I have to charge

Yeah, so I had one of my friends over to hang out at my house the day before my birthday (the others couldn't stay the night.), so of course he got on my computer. One thing led to another, and then, he found my stockpile of MLP pictures, episodes, GIF's, videos, songs, etc. He told me he was a brony also, but when I offered him a bro-hoof he looked puzzled but then got the concept. I thought that was weird because shouldn't everypony know what a bro-hoof was? (I guess ones who aren't to involved in the fandom.) I dismissed it and gave him sort of a brony test. Every now and then I would recite words from songs in the show, but nothing ever got him to respond. Finally I just started to watch an episode, but he wanted to watch something else... "That show is stupid" he says.....  :o :okiedokielokie:  :eww:  <----- (All my expressions at the same time) Either he doesn't know what "Brony" means, or he was a Faker/Troll...

Edit: At my school everyone learned I was a brony and alot of people came up to me saying they were also, and we had some interesting conversations.

Person #1

Person: Hey, I heard you were a brony so I wanted to become one also.

Me: Are you really! That's awesome! *offers bro-hoof*

Person:*accepts bro-hoof*

Me: How many episode's have you watched so far?

Person: Um, the one with the little flying ones in it.

Me: You mean the "It Ain't Easy Being Breezie" episode?

Person: Um, yeah, that one. I only watched like half of it though.

Me:  Well who is your favorite pony?

Person: The red one that flies around a lot.

Me: *Looks at watch* Well how about we finish this some other time, I gotta go! *walks away forever*

:( I'm so sad that he was a faker also... I hope I will find a real brony to talk to soon...

(Except for the girls, I already have enough of them to talk about the show with. No offense, but it's just no the same, and I already have talked about everything with them so I have no more things to talk about.)

Never met anyone, but I have seen people accused of being "fans of the fandom" over on good old 4chan :)

Ah, I think you're referring to the people who are fans of the fandom. They're calling themselves bronies because of what they think the fandom is: Breaking age and gender barriers, the creative output, charity works, that whole 'Love and Tolerate' nonsense, etc.

All fandoms tend to pick up a halo of similar people. Trekkies have a very strong following of 'fans of the fandom', where they're only interested in what Star Trek represents, rather than any actual Star Trek show/movie/book/etc.

They're not really 'fake', they just have a completely different focus.

Basically, they're bandwagoners and don't care at all.

You don't have to contribute at all to be labeled as a brony, just have to be a fan of the show in general. Not everyone has the ability, the know how, or the materials to create things.

And I've never encountered what you call a "fake brony".

*ehem* The Napa-Know-How?  Bahaha, sorry, gearhead joke.  I totally am with you on this.  I'd like to be able to draw fan art... but heck, I mess up drawing stick figures (exaggerating, of course), let alone ponies.

Not... really? There's a difference. Bandwagoners/hipsters are in it for the imaginary 'cred'. They think they're going to get something out of people that they need; attention, money, whatever. And there's a good number of those around who are making low-quality merch to sell directly to bronies. That's also common in fandoms, because some people will always migrate to what they think is the next big 'thing' for them to make something out of it. And they'll jump ship the second they don't get what they want.

What I'm talking about are slightly different. They do care, they just aren't interested in the original media. They're interested in the fan-made stuff. They're fans of Lyra's obsession with humans. They're fans of Derpy the mailmare, companion to Doctor Whooves. They're fans of Fallout Equestria, or Past Sins, or My Little Dashie. There is nothing wrong with that, it's just a different focus. Eventually, FiM is going to end, and all indications are that this fandom will survive that *because* of this type of brony. There's already been a reasonably big shift of bronies who have lost interest in the FiM cartoon, but are still bronies because of the IDW comic books. This isn't much different, being bronies who are into the fan-produced content. All long-lived fandoms (Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, etc.) make this transition because all long-lived fandoms outlast their original source material. If they don't, they're not long-lived. :)

Oh. Well, I guess that shows how much I know.

I've seen people post *here* about how they consider themselves a brony even though they've never seen the show.

That discussion has been had, in fact, there was an entire topic where a Brony said he loved the fandom and the characters without ever really getting into the show.

I wouldn't call them fake Bronies though. One could say enjoying the show makes one a Brony, even if you're just a casual viewer, but what about enjoying the fandom? If the people who enjoy the fandom are being sincere about their enjoyment, I think it's wrong to call them fake. I'd rather call them a different type of Brony than just slapping them with a "fake" label.
