Could the elements of harmony be passed down?

What do you think happens when an element of harmony no longer has a bearer? If let's say one of the bearers had a tragic change of heart and would stop representing their respective element? What would happen years into the future (as the elements do nothing to advance the ponies' longevity, obviously). Would a potential bearer need to befriend the other bearers?

 

On a side note... could a single element have MULTIPLE ponies capable of calling on it's power?

Celestia and Luna were the original bearers of the element of harmony. They lost their connection when Celestia used them against NMM and new bearers weren't found until the mane 6 came around. Equestria survived without anyone connected to the elements but we know next to nothing about how well it did.

Given that they were luna/celestias, Im sure that they could be passed down if the mane 6 died or they lost there power to use them

The first thought which sprang to mind would be the CMC rising to the occasion, if 2 sisters wielded all 6, 3 adorable fillies might be able to do the same as they mature

Considering how little we know about the EoH, that they were part of the Tree of Harmony and needed to be returned, and that the Elements are now represented by the Mane 6 with possessing the physical EoH, and that one Pony can technically represent multiple elements ... it's an intriguing question.

 

I think that should the world have the need for a new bearer, the tree will find a way to replace the bearer ... though the method may change. Also we see some interchangeable aspects in each of the elements.

 

For instance, If Rarity or Fluttershy falls or quits (not likely) they would each be able to represent the other's Element since Kindness and Generosity are related. Same with AJ and RD since we've seen each demonstrate the other's element.

 

If we lose Twilight or Pinkie ... that may require a new bearer IMO. Rarity is not strong enough a unicorn and no one comes close enough to Pinkie to natural laughter (maybe Dash?).

 

Then again would we just have to wait for a new trigger event like in Cutie Mark Chronicles?

I like to think that the Crusaders will each inherit an element one day. I'd be rad if, in generation 5, the mane 6 passed the torch to the adult CMCs.

 

Of course, that means we'd need 3 other fillies for the rest of the elements. Snips and Snails, it's your time to shine!

The elements might be a non-issue going forward but they had passed down to Twilight and her friends. However, that might have been a one time thing as the elements may have used this transition to return back to the Tree of Harmony which is why finding other users in the 1000 years was not needed. It is possible that the Sonic Rainboom was a sign that the second and final group of bearers would be found by the elements.

Maybe, but we can't rule out the possibility of Twily's castle producing more Rainbow Power for everypony, like the CMCs
