Largely RPGs, mainly because I'm a big story guy when it comes to games and they offer the most control and customization of my character(s). I also have a soft spot for Tactical Strategy games similar to Final Fantasy Tactics and such.

I really like first person jump scare horror games.  They aren't scary, but I like the way they startle me.  I also love RPG games.  My favorites from these two genres are Amnesia: The Dark Decent and God Of War.

I think the whole concept of genres has kind of been defeated in a lot of ways. So many games now fit into the generic category of "action / RPG" (EVERY first-person shooter has some kind of progressive-enhancement/levelling system now!) Plus, I feel like if I say I love a certain genre, like visual novel (ie Phoenix Wright) then I have to show some acceptance for the 90% of visual novel games that are horrible.

I find myself just generally liking the *better* games of each category. Racing games, strategy games, can all fall under my radar if they're doing something unique and interesting.

Le RPG. The number one genre EVER. Not particularly picky about the subgenre but I do tend to enjoy ones that are more unique in premise and/or influenced by anime.

Aside from the Sonic and Headhunter series' all of my favorite franchises are RPGs.

I also enjoy fighting games and hack'n'slashes. Odd thing about fighting games though: I don't particularly care for playing with other people so they often have limited play potential. Once I've seen the story and learned how to use the characters kinda properly I lose interest and play very rarely afterward.

Hmmm. Well, that's a hard one. I've played ALOT of different games over the years, but I guess I'll name off five.

  • Platformers (Favorite)
  • Adventure
  • Action Adventure
  • Fighting
  • RPG's

I personally think FPS's are overrated, but they don't hurt every now and then.

For me nothing beats these,

- MMORPG (WoW)

- Puzzle (Portal)

- Fantasy (Eldercrolls/Fallout)

and whatever you would class DayZ to be, genre wise.

I'm not much of a fan of FPS games but I play a lot of TF2 (for the game, not the hats) and I'm starting to get into the newly discovered Loadout

Gotta love that derpy :3

Here are some of my favourite genres:

Free roam: Not so much a true sandbox like minecraft, but more of a complex world with an emphasis on adventure, exploration and just having fun with the game's environment.

Platformers: The first video game I ever played was one of these (super mario world) and I still really love the genre. Nintendo is still pumping out amazing games for the Mario series using this genre. Heck, Super Mario Galaxy 2 was produced using ideas they couldn't fit into the first one.

Maniac shooters: They're very frustrating, but a fantastic challenge. Plus when you finally beat a level you've been struggling with, you get a great feeling of satisfaction. I'm not that good; I haven't reached far in any touhou game's "insane" mode, but it's still fun in a frustrating kind of way.

MMO's probably would have gone on this list a few years ago, but I think I just grew tired on the genre. I used to like them for all the reasons I enjoy RPGs and the reasons I like open world games... but it just seems like the genre in general has fallen to having the players do the same old dungeons forever instead of encouraging them to explore the massive world they created.
