Click your name on the status bar.

My Settings in the dropdown menu.

Display Name in the menu to the left.

Enter new name.

go into 'my profile' (on ur profile), click edit my profile and there's a grey box on the left hand side with one called 'display name'

This is correct, but just to be clear this alters your display name, not your actual username that you use to login. Actual usernames can only be changed by administrators, and this generally isn't done as login details are handled through Poniverse now.
