Eeergh... I am a little wary, I'll be honest, as that one sounds like a major villain, who you connect to your budding char, Calamity. Hence, the timing would be all messed up currently, for one.

...Perhaps there is some way to be more lenient about it though, but it would require the timeline to fit together, first and foremost. After that, progressing Calamity some more, and then go into things a little cautiously. Likely having to make their encounter be in the past, and her losing her memory then before that, and more or less *revert* to a younger self, whom it then were that Discord found. General population would likely also have to have forgotten about Lavan, making his attacks, and subsequent change, having happened at least a few decades in the past. Not like old threats didn't pop up now and again on the show, far as I am aware, and suddenly there were a lot of lore from nowhere on it.

Something to talk on further I'd say, but maybe we can reach an agreement on it, at some point.

Just so people know: I am not gonna be replying again until Monday. I wok in a tourist area that have just been allowed to open again, right as Easter is hitting us, so frankly swamped with work, and I can already fell today that it's been draining me of energy to have to rush along there.

Monday the worst of the rush should be over, and things calmed down, so I should be back to writing things there. I apologize for the delay, but comes a point where I am just too worn down to really get something out. Especially when I'm on opening shifts, that needs to have me up around 4 in the morning.

So yeah. I wish you all a happy Easter, and look forward to being back at it again, start of next week. I'll keep an eye on the OOC if there is something though, so feel free to write me here, if you need it.

Magnolia was conceived accidentally by Twilight Velvet and Night Light. She was the first born, and this was before her parents had lived in Canterlot. Her parents originally were from Sire's Hollow. Given an alignment between the planets of the Equestrian Solar system and a supermoon (a rare occurrence that happens every few housand years). There was a legend around the alignment and the supermoon, that those born on that date will become incredibly gifted with magic. Magnolia was born on this date, but Magnolia was not her original name. Her original name was Moonlight Sparkle.

Relucantly, Twilight Velvet and Night Light would raise her as their foal. The young Moonlight was easily scared of others and hated going outside. She never got along with other foals and had a hard time making friends. She never got her cutie mark until much later in her youth. She was also bullied for being a blank flank. When trying to get advice from her parents, Twilight Velvet and Night would generally ignore her or cast her aside, or tell her minor things. Without feeling understood by anyone, she turned inward and silent.

Soon enough, Twilight Velvet and Night Light would bear another foal. This time it was Shining Armour. Her parents cherished the young foal with love, and left Moonlight in the dark. Moonlight would remain distant from her baby brother. Eventually, for unknown reasons there would be a house fire. Moonlight saved Shining Armour from the house fire, carrying him in a cradle yet her parents blamed her for the fire and screamed at her, leaving Magnolia a crying mess. She ran away. Even at the age of 16, she had not gotten her cutie mark yet.

Moonlight would wind up lost within some caves. With the conclusion that she was rejected by the only ponies who ever remotely cared, she would snap and eventually go further within the caves. Within the caves, she found some sort of comfort within the dark shadows of the cave. She for once, felt safe. Upon exiting the cave, she would get her cutie mark. With wonder, she looked at her flank seeing the black and purple stars on it. A search team was sent into the caves by Twilight Velvet and Night Light, they found nothing, for Moonlight had already left. Twilight Velvet and Night Light were horrified they couldn't find her, now that they had lost Moonlight, they both felt very sorry for the way that they treated her and longed for her return.

She was lost, and did not know her way back and would wander the land for years, stealing what she needed to survive for years. Due to emotional reasons and the loss of their home, they moved away to Canterlot. They wished they could thank Moonlight for saving Shining Armour. After they moved, they vowed to never speak of Moonlight again and hid what had happened from other ponies. In part due to their guilt in the tragedy, and the pain that talking about it brings up.

Eventually Moonlight came across a field of Magnolia flowers. She enjoyed the smell of the flowers and had also felt comforted by the presence of them. She would roll around in the fields of flowers and play, for the first time being happy. For this reason, she changed her name by Magnolia and would go by it ever since. It eventually set into Magnolia that she was for all intense and purposes, and orphan. She'd do the occasional odd job for ponies she had come across to earn money.

In her spare time, she would read. As an avid reader, she would absorb the knowledge she needed in order to function in the world. Drawn by the allure of shadow magic, after reading forbidden books from areas she could she would begin practicing shadow magic. It came to her naturally, and became her biggest strength. For years, she would practice and perfect her magic in total secrecy. Totally lost in her magic, and with nobody to turn to for help her loss and pain would become rage, and the rage became a desire for more magic. More power.

Eventually she was inspired to go on a journey. A journey to find the legendary Gorgon's Eye. A pony by the name of A.K. Yearling wrote about the legend and where it might be located, as well as a fantastical tale of 'Daring Do'.  It would take a long time and plenty of effort, trials, and near death but Magnolia was able to retrieve the artifact in a distant land. She got to it before Daring Do was able to, and wore it herself.

It granted her the ability to turn those she hated into stone, as well as a general power boost. Years passed, and she eventually learned of Twilight Sparkle, her younger sister. Knowing of the name 'Sparkle', as she is of the family she would only grovel in envy and hatred that Twilight Sparkle had gotten all the attention as well as Shining Armour.

She would lurk in solitude, draining power and magic from others in hopes of working up enough power within her to ascend herself to alicorn status, so that she may strike down Twilight Sparkle and claim her crown for herself. All of this was to cover up her deep pain of being abandoned, the power complex, her ego, all of it was to fill the wound within her.

The parents are kinda out of character...

I uhm... I'd like to hear a reason for that involvement, basically? It seems an odd connection to make. Especially as far as I am aware - and correct me if I am wrong - but Twilight's parents were good ponies, and as such, wouldn't have lore-wise acted this way towards their own foal. It's easier to make this fit when you are talking non-descript parents, but when you involve lore chars, it sorta have to fit their characters, yes? And I am not really seeing why they would suddenly like their two next foals, but be reluctant to have another. Especially as you put her as being born on a date that should mean she had great magical potential, which considering they pushed to get Twilight into that school for gifted unicorns, should have made them thrilled, and encouraging.

I dunno. Just seems like a big leap from their characters, but I'll hear you out on your reasons for this involvement. Frankly, I'd think it would make WAY more sense (if you still want to involve that family) that she were found by them, and reluctantly adopted her, as what they would have thought were a *temporary solution* until social services sorted things out. If they didn't know about the special date, as well as her being adopted, it could well make them think of her as *less*, and start to despise her, for having to deal with her, when they were expecting her to get on in the system rather quickly.

I mean, it still marks them as horrible parents, who only thinks their own blood is special and worth attention, but I could see that fitting more, and it's not like Magnolia would really know she were technically adopted (likely due to time spend making the government agency think it were best for the health of Magnolia, to not move her away, and not seeing how the parents actually acted), unless they flung it in her face constantly. She may well have just thought they were related, and in some ways, they would still be. Just not by blood, but more association, if that makes sense?

Just saying: It would explain things more from what I know (feel free to correct or further explain things though), and Magnolia would be none the wiser. Just my two cents though, based on what I see and scarcely know. I am not dismissing your idea. Rather, just wanting to have it further explained, to make it fit, since you are involving cannon chars.

Uh, sorry I haven't, um, been around. I've got maybe five more days before i'm on the plane moving back to the states. And then i'll probably be gone awhile before i settle in enough to be around the forums again. Stress i don't deal with too well, and from quitting my job to move and alls the paper work I haven't been around. I'm sorry!
Not got much planned these next few days so i ought be able to get in some time here!

Sorry for the delay. Busy day again.

So... Ergh, I'll allow it, but maybe try and not bring them up if possible? The parents that is. They may have been bad first time parents, but still seems somewhat odd. With me at best being able to place it as them being young, inexperienced, and feeling like Magnolia were robbing them of their planned future, or something. Still a bit iffy, but we'll see where it goes I suppose.

We'll still be here when you return, after everything have settled down.  Gotta make sure that life is calm first, after what sounds like a rollercoaster of stuff happening, that's thrown you all over the place. No one's expecting you to be able to deal with that, and this at the same time.

About magnolia delema.

First of all im sure in magnolias story her families gonna get involved heavily because its her drive or reason for her story...

To make magnolia's story work while the parents character isn't butchered or somewhat inaccurate.

Why not let Magnolia be kidnapped.

I mean she is a prophesied child right?

Lots of cults are gonna kidnap her and brain wash her. 

And there is where you get magnolias dark back story.

She was fed wrong information of her real parents. And the cult that kidnap and trained her used her.

 Bad parents, nay, single bad situations in a being's past do not a villain make.

 It takes a special personality, how one took things and a very specific set of circumstances to give one the skills they need to be a threat is what makes an imposing antagonist. Take Fizzlepop Berrytwist, AKA Tempest Shadow. She got insulted as a foal and ran away... with apparently no adults to go after her. Also... she kind of also got indoctrined into a Warlord's conquest and beaten into shape to be a ruthless warrior. She didn't have that scar prior.

 Villains don't have personal vendettas against important figures in lore. That's more of an Anime Rival thing.

Tempest Shadow single hoofidly took down three royal queens of a peaceful nation because she wasn't aiming for that result, because she was giving the element of surprise, the devices to do so and moreover... Because she was Told to. Sure, in the movie she says that foalhood incident basically destroyed her faith and goodwill... but that's just emotional crutch and backstory.

 

 My point is, from what i've read on this last page (and i'm admittedly not reading much) your character exists primarily by their connections to other, pre-established, pre-buildt characters. Her motives are because others exist & do stuff. An' I kinda feel a character oughta be a sorta Microcosm unto themselves... and if history gets dredged up, like Ambie's parents (my ponysona... "One Of") get involved or somesuch... then they should be standalone characters of their own, even IF they show up together as a pair interacting.

A character should be capable of being fully divorced from their backstory & motives/goals.

 Because... to be honest... Life will do that. Render your goals moot or fully uproot you completely to another side of the planet...

 Sigh...  You are where you are, not where you have been. 

If your old life was abuse and drama... but your present life is a happy and peaceful place, then your character needs to grow to fit. I see this alot in Blitz's characters like Happy Hour. You Are Not Your Baggage. Sure, it effects you a character might be cautious, but you can't spend every conversation bespeeching your vendettas or traumas.

 It's kind of why i don't like the "is from another dimension and is now in non-original body/Human-To-Pony Fanfic" trope. No one's going to ask, no one is going to have much of a concept about that specific set of circumstances to bother for long and it can't possibly effect anything for long.  ... apart from it being a topic to confide in other characters when getting emotionally close.

 

 

That being said, I DO have a Gary Stu Alicorn Knockoff Twilight Sparkle. He's called Twilight Twinkle. And he's a snob who loathes the comparison because he winds up getting all the louts & ruffians who'd dimly want to make a quick buck kidnapping a lone "princess."
