If you've ever played "King of the Fighters"--I haven't--you'd recognize Mai Shiranui as one of the most iconic characters from that franchise both in and out of the gaming industry.

 

I think having Sunset cosplaying as her was a smart idea given that she--Sunset--has become one of the most popular characters in MLP.

It's a series of fighting games that have been around as far back as 1994. I can tell you more about it based on what little I know, but probably not here as this is a Sunset themed thread.
