I'm..... I'm really worried for Twilight's character now...

Twilight's is my favorite character  of the show, and surely one of my favorites characters ever, I really care about her so much. She is a character that grew up to me on EVERY SINGLE APPARENCES. However.... yesterday happened something that I never would expected... I watched Rainbow Rocks and despite the fact I enjoyed it.... this was the first time in the whole show where.... Twilight disappointed me. It never happened before, I can't believe it....

And now I'm scared for her for the season 5: Twilight's Kingdom was her best apparence to date while Rainbow Rocks was her worst apparence  to date, and they come one right after the other one, and they are both written by the same person... what if she disappoints me frequentely now? It would break my heart if the character gets ruined....

In what ways were you disappointed with Twilight Sparkle in RR? It's kind of hard to really comment if you're not more specific. I personally thought Twilight was great in the movie, so it's hard to understand what you're getting at.

As for the writer, Meghan McCarthy has been writing for the show since the beginning and has been head writer and a producer for several seasons now. She has a ton of MLP scritps under her belt including some great Twilight stories like "Lesson Zero', "It's About Time", "The Crystal Empire", "A Canterlot Wedding" and -as you mentioned- "Twilight's Kingdom".

Question, what happened specifically that made her disappointing?

She was useless from the start to the end of the entire movie. Jesus Twilight, you defeated a giant worm and fought against an overpowered centaur in past, and now you get kicked so easely? I'm so scared...

Nah she'll be fine in Season 5. Every character has their moments.

If characters don't have moments of weakness and doubt, they're going to be kind of boring. But some things to consider are that she was in a world where her ability to use magic was extremely limited, giving her a major handicap from the start. She did ultimately defeat the Sirens in the end, though Sunset Shimmer played a large part in it too, but they would have been completely screwed if Twiight wasn't there in the first place.

Don't worry, Twilight in the EG movies is just a stripped down weaker version to make the other characters like Flash Sentry have something to do.

The movie treated Twilight closer to how the two-parters have been treating the other five main characters for a long time now. Important, but not the main focus and not the one to solve the problem. If anything I liked seeing a more fallible Twilight. Helped drive the message about expectations home and it was nice to see another character get the spotlight in one of these big episodes/movies. I have some problems with Twily's character, but enough focus in those is not one of them . She'll be fine if they decide to give her fun, relatable SoL episodes again.

I loved Twilight in Rainbow Rocks personally. It gave us a little bit of the old, "I'm worried I won't have the answers, and there has to be a solution." She was feeling the burden hardest to bear (@Wingnut that was for you) and also provided a subtle reason why things spiraled to the point in the rising and falling action. It also proved that she is not a Mary Sue and I love that they did that.

I'd barely consider the two movies canon, personally, so I wouldn't worry much about it. I think the writers themselves even put a lot more effort into writing the series than they did the movies. The movies existed only to sell another line of toys, even more so than the original series itself did.

Are you kidding me? Rr is the best thing to happen to Twilight. Not only does she get to excersize a mentor role for Sunset she shows that she still has room to grow even with her accomplishments. Also when she was fighting tirek she was supercharged with "All ze Alicorn magickz" and in her natural form so obviously she isnt going to kick as much flank as a human and without the elements of harmony. She was better in the movie than she has been in some mlp episodes actually. I am far from worried, I am psyched!

Twilight can't have all the glory, it's not that we don't like her. Twilight has had waaay more screen time than any other character. Twilight can't solve all the problems.

The movie juggled a lot for a hour 15 minute movie

Twilight and her inability to create the counter spell

Sunset Shimmer and her past and correcting her character

Rainbow Dash and her arrogance when she wouldn't work together with the band as a team

The dazzlings and their feasting

Trixie being used as a pawn by the dazzlings

So, you're worried that Twilight was useless. Well this could arguably be a good thing. It's showing she has flaws. If she was perfect with no flaws, that would be making her a Mary Sue.

This is the first thing that popped into my mind reading this thread. I have not seen Rainbow Rocks yet but from what I understand it is supposed to be more focused on Sunset and I honestly think the writers want to show Twilight has weakness on purpose since they keep hearing people complain she is too powerful and too much of a Mary Sue as a princess. You actually peaked my interest in the movie more…unfortunately I think I have to wait for the DVD of the movie to come out.

I can see what you mean about Twilight being a bit useless in Rainbow Rocks, but at the same time, the fact that she was put under the pressure to help everypony and couldn't was a vital part of the plot. I'm sure she'll go back to her epic laser-shooting alicorn self in Season 5 :)

Just because she is disappointing in Equestria Girls doesn't mean she will be in Season 5. I haven't seen Rainbow Rocks but I'm sure it won't have much continuity with the show.

The funny thing is that RR references specific FiM episodes in dialog now instead of the whole, oh yeah I got wings now reference that was required. I mean direct references to MMC, TK, etc.

I think that they just gave the fans the best of both worlds with that approach.

FIM Twilight isn't the same as EG Twilight.

EG Twilight is suppose to be a weakling who needs more help because most of her best qualities have been stripped away once she becomes bipedal and her Equestrian knowledge is mostly useless.

I would just treat the two as separate characters.

I just saw a Spoiler Clip on youtube of Rainbow Rocks and it looks like they made Twilight a secondary character to make the story better. Sunset Shimmer's story appears to only work if Twilight is helping her rather than saving the day herself. I personally think the writers made a great decision here because I think it actually makes the message of the first Equestria Girls and even Twilight's Kingdom more effective. Part of the message of the Equestria Girls and Twilight's Kingdom is that friendship is more powerful than Alicorn/pony magic and the spoiler clip I saw seems to deliver this message nicely as well as deliver the idea that now that Twilight has become the Princess Of Friendship she is meant to teach and help others with what she has learned i.e "Spread the magic of Friendship" as stated at the end of season 4. I don't think the way she got defeated was that unbelievable either since she had no horn and is awkward as a human. I don't think you have anything to worry about regarding season 5 because Twilight will have her horn and magic and is still the main character in the series.

This right here basically sums up my thoughts on the issue.

Plus, I honestly didn't think Twilight was that weak in RR. I thought she was actually pretty enjoyable and well done. I mean I think Sunset shimmer was better done and felt like more of the focus in a way, but I still liked Twilight as well.

I wouldn't get worried prematurely, I'm sure the writers will make things work. They have in the past, and so I believe they will again.

If she becomes consistently bad would maybe be a time to be worried, but this is to premature, and I honestly don't even feel she was written weak in RR, maybe not as strong as in the S4 finale sure, but the S4 finale was pretty darn good, so it's gonna be hard to top that.

MMMM'KAY.

So first Twilight Sparkle is a Mary Sue who can't be beat and now there's a thread saying she should never be beat ever.

Further evidence that the fandom does not know what it wants and should leave it to the professionals.

Twilight is a well developed and dynamic character, all they need to do is look past the fandoms narrow minded view of her to see it.
