After doing the research for a $200 card I liked to replace my now extremely outdated 750ti (almost low settings to get 1080p/60FPS on Fo4) I settled on a 4GB, OC'd 960 for $170 after rebate and it's going to be here Wednesday. It seems like about the best I do in my $200 price bracket for a Nvidia card.

I'm watching some videos to get hyped up:

as well we cleaning up my HDD and running optimization stuff to make sure everything is running smooth when I do the upgrade. I also did some benchmarks so I'd be able to compare and might do more after I update 3Dmark and clean this all up.

Anyone have a recommendation for a laptop within the price range of 1500-2000USD? It's intended to be more or less a portable version of my desktop PC. I was originally going to wait until the release of the 1000M series but it seems I may need to make the purchase sooner than expected.

Actually, cross play between Windows 10 and Xbox One raises some issues, especially with FPS. A skilled player with a keyboard and mouse is obviously going to mop the floor with even a skilled player with a controller, even a Xbox One Elite Controller. How do you balance that?

Anyway, I just dont want to build my own PC because I am worried i might mess it up.

I play CoD on PC with a wireless Xbox 360 controller...I've gone up against people with M/K set up...doesn't really feel any different vs playing on console. I've had people playing on M/k actually complain about me and my friend using a controller after beating them. It's all just really preference.

322GB HDD space free (and another 20GB packaged up to be backed-up to a Blu-Ray and cleared) and I've run some system optimization stuff, so I'm getting there on my clean-up.

Also tossed a back-up of all my game saves in with that stuff.

Did one final benchmark on Firestrike.

Question, why is Windows 8.1 so shit on keeping it's Temp folder cleaned out? Mine had reached 119GB.

If you're backing up any Steam games, there is no need as Valve uses cloud storage for that.

I just have a utility that backs-up every game save it can find on the system to whatever folder you designate, and not all Steam games support the cloud (especially re-releases of older titles)

@@Flutter Baby <3, True, although I'd argue that it would take a lot of practice to get good at an FPS with a controller, at least maybe for most people. Mice don't work the same way as a controller with thumbsticks, and require less patience in my opinion, and especially if you're really competitive at shooters, you'll dominate and even someone who's great with a controller probably wouldn't be able to match that skill.

Also, it's entirely possible the people you were playing against were just terrible at first person shooters.

I probably need a new primary hard-drive because this thing is likely like five years old (I took out of the OEM I had before I built this) but I'm to lazy to dig out my Windows 8.1 stuff and look into how to transfer HDD stuff to a new unit.

The real question is, can it run Crysis?

@@~Onylex, Damn, that is quite a beefy rig! You thinking of upgrading to a 1000 series card at all?

Yeah but only when they get cheaper, look nicer, and, come factory overclocked with less bugs.

@@~Onylex, Aye. I know what you mean. Personally, I have a 970, and I don't really need to replace it, but for one, I want to game in 1080p at max without hiccups, and two, down the line there will be games that need more than 4GB of VRAM, and the 970's RAM bug will surely be a drawback in the near future. So, I will probably get a 1070 and not replace it for at least a few years.

I have an MSI 1070 Gaming X. I found it for $450 (still kinda pricy). It comes factory overclocked, and I've had no issues with it. I ran Unigine Valley, and it went all the way up to 1987 MHz in the Gaming mode.

Same, now that I'm getting a 4GB 960 to tide me over I likely won't upgrade again until I get to where I can afford a 1070 and the prices are more decent on OC'd ones with nice coolers.

@@Shoboni, Not to mention the 1070 is great at 1440p gaming from what I've heard.

Anyway, any of you guys getting No Man's Sky on Friday? I wanna pick it up, but I'm gonna wait for a sale.

I typically upgrade my PC when everything in it becomes mid to mid-low range as far as specs goes.

The only reason I have such an overkill setup now is due to the epic coolness of it all. lol

Well.. that and I did this build before Starwars Battlefront came out when I was really excited about it. Like during the time of speculation that DICE was making the game before they had even said that they were.

1987 MHz thats a hell of a number for a single card... :L

This is exactly my setup, and I can confirm that it does the job very well. While it technically is more powerful and can achieve higher FPS than the Maxwell Titan X, it may not be worth it if you have a 980 Ti.

@@Vulon Bii, Well, I lack a 980ti, so that's a no go. And I thought the 1070 was faster than the 980ti?

In pretty much any benchmarks you've seen (as well as my personal testing), the 1070 is faster than the 980 Ti (which was basically a cut-down Titan X). What I mean is that going from a 980 Ti to a 1070 isn't really worth the money considering the gains aren't that big. However, if the 1070 is compared the 970 or a 980, it would be a worthwhile upgrade.

Plus, the $30 Nvidia will give you for the 970 can go towards a 1070 if you choose. :P

@@Vulon Bii, I mean, the 980ti is still what, $600? And the 1070 is around $450. And I thought about that, wouldn't be much of a payment towards a 1070. Maybe I'll just use it for some games.
