The "Dreamcast 2" got an upgrade.

sig-4634629.VdiTEdx.jpg

It's the 750Ti. Nothing too special, but considering I was using a 10 year old 8800 GTS, it's definitely a step up.

The 750ti is showing it's age now, but it's still a really decent card for 1080p gaming (especially on older titles or stuff that's not very resource demanding like Indie/Budget titles) as long as you get a good deal on it.

I personally only upgraded to a 960 because Fallout 4 finally provided a game it couldn't run on decent settings and framerates, and I figured it was time to move to a 4GB card.

I tried Fallout 4 on my 980 Ti, and it only just holds 60 FPS. That game requires sheer brute force to get any respectable FPS.

I think you might have a problem somewhere.

My 960 has it almost maxed out (only God Rays turned down and shadows toned back to medium) and a smooth 60FPS with very little slowdown.

I max out everything, running at 1440p, so demanding enough to need at least a 980 (where a 970 begins to struggle), but Fallout 4 is not very well optimized.

I mean, that's kind of the issue.

Not a lot of games aren't really well optimized for higher resolutions yet , especially huge open world games on a fairly old engine (it's an updated version of the Skyrim engine, which itself is based on the even older Gamebryo engine used for Fallout 3.

So who likes custom sleeved cables? I just now bough these and I think they'll make my PC look that much better and cleaner since my power supply's cables are more meant for a full or mid ATX tower, and I have a mATX cube, so I don't need all that extra length. If you're curious about the measurements, the 24-pin is 300mm, 4+4 is 350mm, and both the 6 and 8 pin connectors are 450mm.

I now have high-end laptop, and I must say that it seems very strange to me that my portable PC would be more powerful than my desktop PC... or at least in terms of graphics. Currently, my desktop PC still uses GTX 670 2GB whereas the laptop uses GTX 970M 4/3.5GB.

Screen%20Shot%202014-12-07%20at%2021.26.

I finally get me one of them SSDs that's all the rage right now. When it comes to my PC, I don't fuck around, so I forked over $625 for 2TB. This will replace my Seagate 2TB HDD. All I need now is to clone it and transfer it over to the SSD.

But there is a bit of a problem...

For no real reason, my PC has decided it wants to display the unknown Q-code 41, one that is not mentioned in the manual for my mobo. If you don't know what that is, it's basically a boot loop where it doesn't even post. I can get it to post if I push the MEM OK button on the mobo, then I'm forced to go into the BIOS, and then boot into Windows from there. Mind you, I've this mobo since May, and it has never done this before.

Nothing like grilling your tired graphics card back to health. Ahh...smoked flavored nvidia.

Fry your graphics card, huh? Whatcha got?

Putting a dead graphics card in a toaster oven to make the solder "reflow" and fix it will not work, you'll just toast the card even further and possibly melt it.

However, I prefer my GPUs to be nicely marinated before grilling.

It was showing screen artifacts so it's still worth a try. It's a old card, a 7950GT oc from 2007 I think.

some defective cards can be repaired that way.

I agree. It's not the best or permanent solution for a dying card but it works fine for me for awhile but eventually it will die as you "bake" it more often.

Ooh, ouch, yeah, that's not good. Honestly the best thing to do is just replace the card entirely. Not sure what your budget is, but getting a decent new one shouldn't be hard, especially if you don't care about maxing out everything.

I'll just use it until it dies but it's ok for now until then. First time this card actually crapped out on me and it's for my general internet pc that's why it last for about 10 years, pretty good huh?

Well, when you do decide to replace it....
