What do you know about Mario? You'd be surprised on what you DON'T know! Post facts about Mario people probably didn't know! Have fun!

Did you know Luigi wasn't the first one to meet Daisy? Contrast to popular belief, Mario was the first to meet AND save Daisy, in the game Super Mario Land for the Snes and the Gameboy!

Mario and Luigi's designs were inspired by an Italian comedy movie that came out a few years before the games.

I also know that his name came from a payment issue between Nintendo America's place and its landlord, who was called Mario...Luigi's name comes from an actual pizza place...

Mario has several cameos in games from third party publishers, that didnt get permission to use his image.

Games include Golf, and Mike Tysons Punchout for the NES.

Mario used to be Jumpman, but was renamed after the landlord of a nintendo excutive.

Critics originally thought that Super Mario 64 would be a disasterous flop due to changing the classic mario game formula, but to this day it remains one of the most popular Mario games of all time.

Mario didnt always save peach... in fact his first damsel in distress was Daisy in the Arcade classic Donkey Kong

Daisy, Birdo, and Toad are the 3 least popular characters in the Mario universe.

Luigis first Game dedicated to him did not happen until the gamecube era, and centered around Luigi looking for mario and catching ghosts in a Mansion!

I thought her name was Pauline...Daisy was the "damsel in distress" from Mario Land though.

For Mario's name, it's Mario Segale (or variant thereof for the last name) who was the loud landlord of the Nintendo of America offices.

And to refute the Luigi fact regarding a pizza place: His name in Japan is Ruij.i (or variant thereof as I'm not an expert on spelling Japanese words.) Which means "similar" in English as he looked similar to Mario in the early days of Mario.

Also the first usage of Charles Martinet's voice for Mario was on an edutainment game licensed by Nintendo.

Mario's the BEST!

-In the 90s Mario was already more popular than Mickey Mouse by the words of many children.

-His voice actor, Charles Martinet (who was born in Spain, my country, btw :P) also voiced another famous character,Paarthurnax, from Skyrim.

-He has been in almost 200 games.

-The first man who ever acted in live-action as him behore Bob Hoskins in the movie was a wrestler, Lou Albano, in the Super Mario Bros show.

Punch Out on the NES was developed by Nintendo :P

The bushes in Super Mario bros are the exact same shape as the clouds, just coloured in green. Also, boo the ghost was based off of a developers wife.

One of Mario's names were Mr. Video! Also, You know how Mario and Luigi have their 'evil' twins? Well, so does Yoshi! In Super Mario RPG, there is a Character named Boshi, who looks like yoshi, but with a spiked collar, claws, and sun glasses. His pallet was blue instead of Green.

In Nintendo's lesser known racing franchise, F-Zero, one of the characters named Mr. EAD is essentially a reference to Mario due to the fact that he has a mustache, or that his favorite food is Italian. "EAD" stands for "Entertainment Analysis and Development", which is one of Nintendo's divisions (Nintendo EAD).

This is what he looks like in F-Zero X:
