music Mystery Skulls Animated - Ghost

My friend recently linked me to a fan video for the song 'Ghost' by Mystery Skulls and like a lot of people it seems I instantly fell in love with it. It was animated by Youtuber Mysteryben27 who is also known for his fan work in this fandom too.

The animation is bouncy, fluent and colourful and it tells a surprisingly emotional story, and it's also very reminiscent of the old Scooby-Doo cartoons. :P

There already seems to be a small following and with over a million views in under a week, it comes as no surprise. I just hope we will be able to see more of these characters and their past because it seems quite interesting.

Here's the video:

So what do you guys think? I'll definitely be giving Mystery Skulls a look because I'm currently addicted to that song. ;)

Yeah, I've been obsessed with that video/song for the past week after a friend linked it to me as well. The video is just so adorable (but sad as well), and I like the bounciness it has. It's just a really fun video, and there are a few references to other things like Ace Attorney (Miles Edgeworth painting) and My Little Pony (Rarity painting). It reminds me a lot of Scooby Doo as well (the Scooby Doo and Johnny Bravo crossover episode in particular, if anyone else has seen that besides me). I particularly like Mystery/Ben (the dog); he's adorable.

The song itself is really catchy as well, and the video syncs very well with it. Unfortunately, I haven't really found any of their other songs that I like (other than Money), so if anyone else knows a song by them that they like; it would be greatly appreciated if you could share.

I was one of the first people who saw it. *tears*
Oh how it's grown.

I. Love. It.
The animation led me to listen to the entirety of the Mystery Skulls album and I adore it.
Has it been ponified yet?

More than the artwork, I really love the story. What a tragic tale, especially since it's so similar to Scooby Doo.
By the way, their names:

Purple guy- Lewis
Yellow guy- Arther
Dog- Mystery
Blue girl- Vivi

I really liked it, pretty darn cool video. Music is good as well.

Anyone else spot the hidden Rarity in there?

Oh wow, I never noticed that until you pointed it out. Nice touch, though not a surprise, he seems like an enthusiastic member of the brony community. :)

I think Mystery is my favourite too, but I also have a soft spot for Lewis. He seemed like such a sweet guy, he really didn't deserve what happened to him, then again at the end... :okiedokielokie:

  • 3 months later...

This is actually a very interesting music video clearly inspired largely by the tv series Scooby Doo and taken from a song by the music group Mystery Skulls created by a fan later hired by the makers of the song as an animator.

I would highly recommend paying attention to the animation, there are many details have give clues about what is going on. Perhaps if any wish, they can even post theories of what story is actually being told. I hope you enjoy, this is I feel a wonderful find point out to me by TheMysteriousMrEnter for their Admirable Animations.

I feel like such a hipster for seeing that video before Mr. Enter did a thing on it in his video.

But yeah, while I do like the song, I don't see why so many people like it to the point of creating fan art, plush stuff, and costumes from the video and more. I get it is good, but I don't see why there must be a fandom, assuming I know what a fandom is, surrounding it.

@@Jeric,

Ah, my apologies. I didn't realize there was another thread involving this.

@,

Well it is actually quite interesting how it has a fandom, but not all that surprising I believe. This music video has clearly left an impression on others, a connection is formed... though in truth it is quite short. More, much like the subject of figuring out mysterious Ghost leaves views asking questions. They video offers clues to the overall story but visual details not in words or lyrics, in which one can use to piece together the backgrounds of the characters involved.

It this any different from the 'fandoms' that form involving background characters in MLP or others that have a limited roll. For example, we have Derpy/Ditsy, Doctor Whooves, Octavia, and Vinyl Scratch, Daring Doo who have little in the way of canon information but are very popular characters none-the-less. Vivi* (in blue), Arthur* (in yellow), Mystery* (in red) \, and Lewis* (the skeletal ghost/former member) all have clues of who they are and what has happened to them in which fans can piece together and interpreted. Characters that others can connect to and find enjoyment in creating fanworks of.

*Official names from what I have gathered

Sure it is a music video, one under 8 minutes, and with no speaking parts, with the story told through visuals... but it works, people like it and enjoy it.  :D
