I'm not sure what to make of this. It looks like another one of those conspiracies looking at all the bad stuff in the world and jumping to doomsday.

Discuss this below.

Heh. There seems to be at least two of these every year.

Nah. I don't think something like this will come to pass. It's always good to look at the good in the world. I like to think most people are normal folks who live normal lives like the rest the rest of us. We have bad eggs, but we shouldn't let them spoil the rest of the coop (I just thought of that metaphor :P)

I very much doubt there is such a doomsday clock in the first place, especially since this is the first I have heard about one supposedly existing.

For those who haven't read the article, they aren't saying that the world is supposed to end or anything of the sort at 11:57 PM.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists doesn't use the clock to make any real doomsday predictions. Rather, the clock is a visual metaphor to warn the public about how close the world is to a potentially civilization-ending catastrophe. Each year, the magazine's board analyzes threats to humanity's survival to decide where the Doomsday Clock's hands should be set.

What follows is an explanation of how they determine where to set the hands. It's entirely metaphorical, and a rather lousy one, imo.

Yes, I was confused about that at first. They should set it to two minutes past midnight, in my opinion.

Wasn't the Doomsday Clock covered on a History Channel special once? Outside of that I've never heard of it, and honestly forgot about until I saw this thread.

As Silhouette said, it's just a lousy metaphor. Nothing more.

The doomsday clock is about as fictional as Nostra Damus's cryptic predictions.

A clock doesn't go backwards either it just nuclear physicists trying to seem important.

I never believed in Doomsday especially when the end of 2012 came I told all my friends it wasn't going to happen but now some people seemed to be convinced that the end of the world is suppose to happen on 2021

they can keep winding the Doomsday clock back up all they want we are still going to be just fine

It's widely known that the technological growth of humanity, especially in the last century, has brought tremendous damage unto planet earth. Sadly, however, this is the reality. Reminding people how much closer we are to killing our world and everything on it isn't going to change it. Plus, i think that when one nation finally demands the end of another and decides to involve nukes, it won't come as a surprise to most people.
