Anyone here enjoy rare steak?

Is anyone a fan of rare steak? Believe it or not, I just ate my first rare steak today. Personally, I think it was amazing! 10/10; would eat again! The reason I've never ate it before was I never got around to it. I've always wanted to try one, but whenever I thought about going to get one, I either had plans, or just never went and got it. I decided it was high time to go get one. What is everyone else's opinion on rare steak? My mom said she'll never try it; she absolutely hates blood! She even became a vegan for awhile just because she doesn't like the idea of animals being killed.

Didn't proof read; sorry if there are mistakes.

I like a little bit of pink in my steaks but I usually don't want to still hear the cow mooing so I tend to like them medium rare/medium. There are some cuts of meat though that taste a bit better more well done the end cut on a prime rib comes to mind.

I haven't tried it that way yet. I usually have my steak well done or close to that.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

Actually, I go one step further and ask for my steak blue! Although some restaurants refuse to cook it that way.

Oh man! That's the good stuff. But what about that green steak? Don't eat it too often.. but it's got a strange but satisfying taste. >:-P

Believe it or not, cooked blue is an actual method. It's searing the meat but leaving it completely red inside, and as I said before, alot of restaurants refuse to serve it.

I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know. Gonna have to see if I can find a place that serves it sometime. c:

And green steak is also a real thing, too! It's a steak that has mold all over it. I doubt very many if any restaurants serve it though. :P

I have never heard the term "blue" being used for searing before, I have seen seared fish be served more often than seared steak myself with it usually being the drier meatier fishes like Swordfish, Albacore and Mahi Mahi.

I've seen some pretty funny sayings around the term blue steak:

  • Take a cow, rip off any horns, wipe it’s arse, and throw a match on it.
  • Steak so rare, a good vet could bring it back to life.

Kinda gross, but still so damned tasty. Anyways, blue refers to two things, either the temperature (115-120F) or how much pink their is. Not enough to kill some of the toxins that could be lurking, but hell, medical advancements, yo.

Flip it on, flip it over, flip it off. I like my steaks still mooing.

^This. I don't like my steak cooked too much, especially on the rare chance I get it. I don't like it dry or.....Cooked too much.

Won't that make you sick? I eat cooked food because I like spending my 4AMs doing things other than blowing chunks all over my toilet.

It is possible but so long as the beef is of decent quality, handled properly and you don't have a compromised immune system you are probably going to be okay. You can fudge things quite a bit with beef and certain kinds of fish but you can't do the same thing with pork or chicken though due to salmonella and trichinella (don't google that if you just ate or are planning to eat especially if it is pork).

I lean more towards medium rare or just medium. I like my steak to be juicy, but still cooked to a point where I know it at least looks ready to eat. Overcooking I feel just destroys a good steak.. :eww:

But I wouldn't want it to be too rare. My dad often takes it like that and I can never fathom how he brings himself to eat it. It barely looks cooked at all! I'd be afraid of getting food poisoning from something still that red..

I'd go for blue, really. If it's still breathing and mooing I'm also fine. It's been mentioned before in the thread, but basically blue is the rarest you can get. It basically amounts to lightly sizzling the outside of the steak and then eating it. Delicious!

  • 5 years later...

Never eaten rare steak before, but I have eaten Medium Rare and thought it was too "juicy" tho it was still good.

My point is I didn't love the medium rare so the rare might be even less so. One day tho!
