I really like the Need For Speed series. However the quality of the games is getting lower and lower and the graphics higher and higher. And after hearing NFS World is shutting down i really hope for a new arcade game like NFS Underground 3 or something. What do you think? Share your toughts and opinions here!

Yeah, I haven't played an NFS game properly since Carbon. After that came... Prostreet. That pretty much made me get out. :okiedokielokie:

I got more into simulation racers after that so NFS kind of lost it's charm for me with, someone showed me The Run but I really didn't want to play a racing game with a heavy action movie style plot going on around it. Just let me race cars!

I don't know if they're even doing NFS games anymore? I read somewhere that EA had put the series on hold after the Most Wanted remake.

The latest game I played was part of that new hot pursuit one. Otherwise, the only one I have right now is Hot Pursuit 2 for my PS2. I also enjoyed the two Underground titles and Carbon.

NFS Underground 2 used to be my favorite video game, hands down. I bought that, Prostreet, Hot Pursuit, and one other (I don't remember which one it was). Prostreet was OK, but nothing to write home about. Hot Pursuit was fun because you could play as the police, which gave it a unique feel. The new one ( the one I don't remember the name of) was very repetitive and was on-track only.

Frankly, I feel like Forza Motorsports came out of nowhere and whooped them at customization potential, driving dynamic, and the selection of vehicles. Sure, it costs more, is Xbox specific, and uses some DLC, but I feel like it's worth the extra $$$.

I doubt if we see another Underground because those were always based around the "tuner/ricer" phenomenon that sprang up out of the Y2K version of Fast and the Furious. That looks pretty dated now, if you go to an IRL car meet you won't see any cars done like that unless the owner is in the process of "de-ricing" it. The people that were into that were into that scene for the most part switched over to hellaflush, which wouldn't make for much of a video game.

I used to be into the NFS series until I got into more serious simulation-style series like Gran Turismo, Forza, Assetto Corsa, GRID Autosport, etc.

When I do want silly arcade-style racing, I play Burnout, not an NFS game, mainly because NFS is an arcade racer that's taking itself way too seriously as of late (edgier than your average red-and-black alicorn OC), while Burnout shamelessly acknowledges and embraces its own absurdity.

The original GRID is an example of a game that pulls off this serious style of arcade racing very, very well.

On-topic:

Slightly Mad Studios struck gold with their take on the series, and I'm very surprised indeed that no-one has mentioned Shift or Shift 2 Unleashed yet.

These are the only NFS games I even play any more; they're both a departure from and a marked improvement over the series's usual arcade style. Shift 2's soundtrack is spine-tingling levels of epic, and the handling model and graphics are stellar.

I didn't mind ProStreet too much, but then the only NFS game I'd played before that was the original Hot Pursuit, so my perspective on the brand is perhaps a bit skewed. I haven't played most of the games in the series, but as far as the new ones go I'd highly recommend either Shift game.

I don't know if they're even doing NFS games anymore? I read somewhere that EA had put the series on hold after the Most Wanted remake.

Rivals (multiplayer-oriented HP 2011, basically) came out after MW 2012, but that's it for now.

They've definitely slowed down the franchise lately, but EA, being as corporately-minded as they are, would never let a franchise die as long as it's markedly profitable *coughTheSimscough*.

They're releasing an (inevitably microtransaction-filled) mobile game sometime soon, so that's...obviously going to be terrible.  >_>

Despite the series slowdown, they've still got that exclusive Porsche license that they're purposefully squandering just to shut out Turn 10, Polyphony Digital, and everyone else, so I do resent both EA and the NFS series for that...  :okiedokielokie:

I like NFS, but some of the games haven't been that great like NFS Shift and NFS The Run which i didn't play much of. NFS Underground 2 is my favourite game, i enjoyed Most Wanted the 2005 version, Undercover, Underground 1 and 2 and Hot Pursuit.

I still have fond memories of Underground 1 & 2, and Most Wanted (2005). Even if I sucked at playing the latter game, I still had fun nonetheless. The AI has a tendency to cheat a lot in these games, such as suddenly using a "slingshot AI" to appear behind you despite they were behind you for most of the race.

It's still a lot of fun to play IMO.

I like the old school games in the Need For Speed series more. I was 10 when when Need for speed III came out! When I was younger and my cousins/friends were over we used to play them a lot. I still have my PC Racing wheel too. The newest one I have is Carbon, and I only played it a couple times, as it came out when I graduated high school. I don't really play video games much anymore.

Although it's not a Ferarri, I find my actual car more entertaining than the games. ^_^

I was into it at one point, Need for Speed 3 Hot Pursuit on the Playstation was my first game in the series, that bring's back memories of getting pulled over by the cops constantly. :P Then after that I played Need For Speed Underground, which was okay, Underground 2 which was very good, and Most Wanted (2006) which was awesome. I have been gravitating towards more sim-like racers over the years.

I want to get a 900 degree turning wheel with manual clutch pedal and shifter for my computer, along with some newer sim racing games. The problem is that I would use it so little that it wouldn't be worth it.They're not exactly cheap. I would rather put the money towards something on my Camaro.

The physics on the newer games is SO much better than Need for Speed 3 when that came out that it's ridiculous. NFS3 is still my favorite racing game though and it's one of the only games I actually played through. Occasionally I'll still set up network play with older computers when people are over and it's still just as fun!

I played Need for Speed 2: Hot pursuit back in the day, been waiting for them to make the series good since then, haven't liked the look of the newer games they miss out the fun mood and arcadey powersliding round corners.

Up until Need for Speed Undercover, I had fully played and completed every single Need for Speed that had come out till then. However, I could not help but notice that the series was slowly becoming shit.

The first Need for Speed was amazing, the second one had some really cool tracks and some very exotic cars.

The two Hot Pursuit games do not even need anything to be said about them.

High Stakes was decent.

Porsche was realistic and I really liked driving the classic cars in it.

Then everything changed with Underground. From there till Carbon (Most Wanted being the best, hands down) the games were awesome and I really liked the open cities to explore.

Undercover was slightly shit but bearable.

Prostreet was alright.

Shift was mediocre.

Now Need for Speed is not what it used to be, it is just a cash cow now and the games will never be as good as Underground 2 or Most Wanted. Kind of like what they did with Ace Combat. They had a perfect fictional world and they decided to do the boring USA vs Russia thing.
