Hello fellow Bronies!

this is the first time ever posting on a forum so I`m a bit nervous, but I need your help, so please!

I am a Brony since 2014, I saw the show and fell in love with it.

For my English class I need to do an presentation and it has to do with something that orginates from an English speaking country, and I really want to do it about MLP, I shared my intrest in doing the subject with my teacher but he placed me under a rule:

If I really want to do it, I must show the relation between MLP and America, ofcourse I know that Hasbro is a American company but I ask you all for help.

This can be:

- references to America/Amercan people within episodes (please state the episode)

- American inspired characters (be it names, appearance etc)

- Any other thing no matter how small if it comes to mind please go ahead.

So please, even if you think, eh that couldn`t be of use, go ahead I need all your support!

Many many many thanks in advance!

(edited)

First I want to give you props for wanting to do a presentation about MLP

Second, how about some of the cities in Equestria. A lot of them are based off of american cities like Manehattan, Phillydelphia, Baltimare and Las Pegasus.

  • Some location names in MLP:FiM are usually a combination between a horse-related thing and a state from the US. Some examples include Manehattan (Manhattan), Fillydelphia (Philadelphia) and Las Pegasus (Las Vegas).
  • Further more, Manehattan can be found on the northern-east part of the official Equestria map, much like its real-life counterpart.
  • The Wonderbolts are a group of characters that were inspired by the Blue Angels, which is the United States Navy's flight team. On a related note, the history of the Wonderbolts is similar to real-life United States Air Forces, as seen in the episode Testing Testing 1, 2, 3.
  • Applejack and the rest of the Apple family have mannerisms similar to the Wild West stereotype.

I hope this has helped you! :3

I'd also give the example of the buffalo tribe in "Over A Barrel" who have a disagreement with the town of Appleloosa over the placement of their apple orchard; ie, it's planned slap bang in the middle of the buffalos' running ground. This mirrors disputes between the first American settlers and the native Americans, tho sadly the disputes weren't settled as pleasantly in real life.

In terms of references to American media, I'd recommend the episodes "Three's A Crowd" and "Power Ponies".

Both are filled with references to things that come from America

Ok, so check it out: if you want to get really serious and be really awesome, you could tear apart The Cutie Map, and analyze all of it's relevance and parallels to real life social and politcal struggles throughout history.  The episode is basically a commentary on the dangers of forced equality and social Marxism.  Now, obviously, that's not an American thing, per se, but I'm sure you do something cool with how America dealt with those issues and opposed them and such.  That'd be pretty slick if you could pull something like that off.  I was never good at history, though.

I see, I`ll look into that, I`m gonna see my english teacher in about a week/week and a half, tbh the moment he said yes, I agree but on these requirements my mind was already jumping of joy and spinning so I kinda forgot the requirements he put upon me haha...

The only thing I can clearly remember that it needs to be clear that there are American influences (since Hasbro is an American company and the requirements for the subject yah wanna do was along the lines of "something that has to do with an English speaking country.

And once again, I wanna thank everypony who has posted and please, by al means keep posting it really helps me alot, and makes being a brony so much cooler! I`m gonna mention just how much help I got from everypony on this forum, as this is and always wil be an awesome community!

@@Tha Jster, Luna Eclipsed with its theme of "Nightmare Night"; judging by the varied costumes, it's based on American Halloween. In Britain, we tend to just wear scary costumes for Halloween. XD

You could also include that the show references two constellations Ursa Mahor and Ursa Minor not that that's anerica exclusive. Also the fact that Babs seed speaks in a New Yorker accent which explains why she's from manehatten, a spoof of manhatten New York,

@ Ah, that`s pretty cool! and yes ofcourse, I`ll mention that the names like manehatten en fillydelphia also have their own accents and things like morals, but for the morals I need te review some episodes again.

@@simba86 That is true, I went there and saw that huge amount of information but in a sense I prefer other people telling me, also there may be some things that are not stated by the wiki and somethings the wiki sees as non important, but it can always help me.

Don't forget Cranky Doodle Donkey. Yankee Doodle is an American folk song from the revolution. I think it originally was making fun of the "colonials", but we made it our thing. Now it's a very patriotic thing to sing. (side note, our national anthem is sung to the tune of an old drinking song)

Equestria is in many ways an analog to the United States. In Hearth's Warming Eve, the founding of Equestria parallels the conflicting interests and desire to colonize a new land that would be our own in the settling of America. It also deals with how we ultimately resolved our differences, being a nation of many obscure, oppressed and extreme religions, and learned to tolerate one another. That episode in particular is an American myth if ever there was one.

Hello, first of all, I embrace your courage. I´m not a closet brony any more, I have told a few close friends but to speak about this in front of a crowd. That´s just amazing. So to the subject, the first thing I thought about was the episode "Over a barrel", which clearly have a "Wild west" theme. I´m not that good on American history but I think it has some connection even if I cant point out exactly what. Another thing you want to look up in is the map of Eqestria ( no not the new fancy one). I mean the one that show every city and there names. "link". Even if it´s not an exact copy of America I think that they have taken inspiration from some Americas city´s, like "Manehattan", "Filly delphia" and "Baltimare" which represent "Manhattan", "Philadelphia" and "Baltimore" or that is at least what I think.

I hope this project goes well, I would gladly see that you post it here on the forum if you can, it would be very fun to see it. Good luck :D/)

The biggest thing that comes to my mind is Applejack.  Her character is purely based on the farming/cowboy culture within america.  Other than that, I find it worth it to say that almost all of Equestria is based off of America.  At the very least, a lot of it's cities are.  For example, Las Pegasus= Las Vegas, Baltimare= Baltimore, etc.

These days, the world has a tendency of taking itself much too seriously.

It is my intention to not follow suit.

@@Sonicrainboom97Thank you for your support hahaha, It`s good to talk with friends about it, and yeah, I like to give presentations so this subject came to mind right away.

I am aware of the consequences that comes the moment that I start the presentation and announce the subject, but just as I am I don`t care what others think of me, I`m nice to others and that`s what I want to be, I really don`t understand that some peeps outright hate me for being a brony, but that`s who I am and if they don`t like it then that is there own personal opinion and I respect it, but if it is only for that reason that they hate me than I question them.

In my case, people care more about what I wear and even more about who I am than myself (it`s kinda funny actually XD )

But yeah, since I don`t care about what others think of me I just tell peeps I`m a brony at pretty much the first meeting, since then I know if they avoid me for that reason alone they are not worth the time, since this community is so great with so many great and nice folks,

anyways talk over XD.

Thank you very much for the link, I`ll use that in the presentation and note down the information u posted.

And as for posting the presentation, if I`m unable due to technical limitations to post the powerpoint on here I`ll just post a post asking for those interested to send me a message so I can send it...somehow XD maybe using mail idk.
