It's only slightly different. it's not a high enough contrast in my opinion. I can tell the difference between rainbow dash and the sky better than the blues in your avatar.

Everyone has their own opinions. I for one see quite a difference between the blue for the character and the blue for the background, as the background is just pure blue and the character's color is more of a dark blue.

 

 

...I like blue.
