gaming What game were you most disappointed with?

So, we have on of those, a game that we got hyped up for, only for it to disappoint you.

I only have two games I'm disappointed with:

Destiny:

I think we all know why.

DA: Inquisition:

All the time I heard about how DA:I was "an amazing game" but when I got to play it, I felt bored after only a couple of hours, the armour is ugly, gameplay is "Hold attack button and press a different button every so often", story, was meh. I seriously never understood the love for it.

So, yours?

Sonic Adventure 2.

I heard nothing but good things about the game, and I always wanted to try it out. But then, my brother got it on his Steam account for me, and when I played it, I got bored within the first 2 levels of both modes.

Generally my expectations are on the dot. I allow myself to hype but never allow that hype to skew my judgment.

That said, there's been times where I've gone back to older games in a series and was spoiled by the newer games.

Example: Drakengard. I had played Nier first. Going back and you can see its age and how much they improved things.

I still like Drakengard but I find it difficult to play it for long periods of time and I'm playing it almost completely for the story. I heard the second game is better about that but I don't know if it will stand up to Nier.

Bioshock 2, while was it was actually a pretty damn great game, I still felt it was a step down from 1&Infinite

And Modern Warfare 2+3, both were nowhere near as good as CoD4

I don't know really to be honest...

Watch Dogs. I pre-ordered it for PS3 for €60, I regret pre ordering it. The trailers seemed epic; The game was still great and I enjoyed it, but compared to the trailer, it's... not that good.

Too many to choose just one tbh

Out of ones that I've bought though I'd have to say Dead Island.  The game was just too boring for me and cost $60  -_-

Pokemon Omega Ruby. Considering Ruby is my favorite Pokemon game, I was hyped for this game long before it was even announced, I even pre-ordered it when it was revealed.

It is possibly the only Pokemon game I've abandoned halfway through after nearly having to force my way through it. There are just so many little things that ruin what I liked about the original Ruby and even by Pokemon standards is far too easy to the point the game almost plays itself.

In light of the newest game announced, every game in the Mario&Sonic at the Olympics games. One of the biggest rivalries in gaming deserve better than a shitty minigame collection that only exists to advertise the Olympic Games

Gothic IV. I'm a huge fan of Gothic games and this one is the desecration of the serie. The open-world effect is gone, the fightning system is stupid, the story is okay but the main character is not that iconic like the prev. protagonist (also his appearance is ridiculous).

This Pokemon hack I played online called Pokemon Liquid Crystal, I played it because two of my friends had recommended it and said it was worth playing so I gave it a try, but man was it long, boring, and tedious. The plot seemed to go on forever and the amount of battles got old after a while.

Final Fantasy 13...I almost puked from how bad it was, the only thing it had was that it had pretty cut scenes, that's proof that you can dip trash in gold but it's still trash

I feel this pain as well, so much...

The newer Pokemon games, that being X/Y and the Ruby/Sapphire remakes, have to be some of the biggest disappointments ever for me. They looked so good, and graphically they look wonderful for the 3DS, I even love the interactions you can do with your Pokemon, but the games are just waaaaaay too easy and the stories and character are horrendous. Pokemon has never been known for its stories in the games and these new ones, they shove so much bad dialogue in our faces and it really bothers me. Makes them nearly unbearable.

As for other disappointments, Destiny. Easily. On top of just being plain boring and an endless grind for nothing and having no story to speak of, the biggest disappointment for me comes from that simple fact that the game was torn apart by Activision for pure greed. That really makes me sad seeing what could have been an amazing experience being destroyed by one of the most greedy and anti-consumer publishers in the industry, they have ruined so much already and then that.

Any of the newer call of duty games... I got tired of it after world at war. Modern warfare and world at war were the best imo.

I do agree the more recent Pokémon games were a bit too easy at times.(I'm looking at you, X & Y!)

My most disappointing game I think was Tales of Symphonia. I really wanted to like this game, after being told by friends that this was one of the best eastern RPGs of all time. I played the PS3 remake, hoping I could enjoy it. I play it, and get into a few battles. Not too bad, right?

Next thing I knew, I made a small mistake (I missed a block) and suddenly my whole party is nearly dead. This was on a basic enemy encounter early on in the game. Which is something that should never happen. Now, I know the HD port is based on the PS2 remake, which IIRC, increased the difficulty from the GameCube version. Maybe I'm not good at the game, and got overwhelmed easily? I have no idea...

EDIT: Here's an "honourable" mention: Legend of Zelda, Parallel Worlds, specifically the original. I know this may not "qualify" as a real game but the game went waaaaaay too far with some things.

You know how the introduction dungeon, which is the Guardhouse, should be easy? Well, you're wrong. Guards can chase you at much faster speeds than in the original A Link to the Past. Another problem is the vague and obtuse puzzles you'll have to solve through blind trial and error. This includes invisible traps and enemies, and uninspired, hackneyed moments where you need a guide to solve.

Thank Celestia there's a remodel that rectifies a lot of problems the original PW had to actually be more, you know, an enjoyable one.

Probably Watch_Dogs and Destiny.

Watch_Dogs I couldn't wait to have, I needed the game. I finally get it. "Wow, that's it?" I was expecting more parkour, and more hacks.

Destiny on the other hand, I was disappointed in the story, lack of missions, and Playstation exclusive stuff (Xbox guy here).

I have no problems with exclusive DLC, but I spent the same $60 everyone else did, and I got less. That's just uncool.

Well I had a nice long post explaining a lot of reasoning for things, and then my browser crashed, so here's the short version.

Spore - they hyped the shit out of it, corporate came along, told the devs to dumb it down so they could target it at younger kids. Cell and creature phase are fun, tribe and civilization are shitty RTSs, space is a shitty sandbox.

Skyrim - Take Morrowind, dumb it down a shitton so casual gamers can understand it, stick it in a shitty physics engine and an admittedly much improved combat system and ship it. Mods are the only reason this game is playable, though I will admit it can be pretty damn fun then.

Diablo 3 - See Torchlight 2 for what it should've been. Also, just play Torchlight 2 because it's super fun.

Zelda series - I didn't play it back when I was a kid and it was the coolest shit ever, and it's just not fun now. Most of my friends who love it agree that it's mostly nostalgia.

Kingdom Hearts series - Mediocre hack'n'slash that rides on the backs of famous characters from other IPs. 358/2 Days was pretty damn fun, though. I liked how customizable the tile system was.

Civilization: Beyond Earth - I wanted a true Alpha Centauri sequel, but being pessimistic, I pretty much knew it wouldn't be that. I would've settled for Civ 5 in space, but apparently even that was too much to ask. This game was like, Beta Civ 5 in space. Of course, it is a civ game so it'll probably be super kickass after a few expansions, but I definitely regret buying it at $50.

After having experienced the golden era of Square games, I of course had high expectations for FF12. Ya....wow....that was bad. Single player Final Fantasy games have been dead to me since.

RIP Square, in loving memory of FF 4-10.

Many games have disappointed me in recent years, but I'd say the ones that were the biggest blow to me were Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Animal Crossing City Folk. It's partially a lack of quality (especially in the case of City Folk), but I think it's mainly the fact that I played Melee and Animal Crossing GCN to death back in the GCN days. When Brawl and City Folk came out I had grown up a whole lot, had much more of a social life, and many more things to entertain me with... Consequentially I played these games far less than their predecessors and I took that as meaning there must be something wrong.
