gaming Console Vs. PC

Really? Total War, Starcraft, Wargame, Hearts of Iron, Cities Skylines (on Xbox One? Well done them, then, if they can do it) Silent Hunter, ARMA... and those are only 'really good' games that I actually have. The list is as long as it is pointless. Games are almost always exclusive to PC because there isn't a console they would work well on (no hotkeys being a major issue with standard controllers, and because a mouse is the best way of doing certain operations) and / or there isn't a market.

MOBAs, RTS and Dungeon Crawlers were previously thought to be too complex to put on consoles due to control schemes, but now that is slowly changing. Halo Wars was hugely successful on consoles, MOBAs have been and are continuing to be made on consoles and dungeon crawlers on them exist. Even widely popular Diablo 3 is on consoles now.

It's not a matter of "these games will never work on consoles because the genres are PC based" it's matter of "when" it's going to happen.

And all power to whoever gets them to work. I was taking a shot at exclusives generally, and anything that makes games like that work on consoles and reduces the number of exclusives is good in my book, be it for PC or console (the X-COM remake worked, even if I didn't like some of the changes they had made.) The point of the list was how pointless it was.

The Fox Engine is obscenely well-optimized like the Source Engine was, so that's a bad example. There's still plenty of games runnng at sub-1080p native resolution and locked at 30FPS.

I have no preference. I unintentionally and slowly eased into the PC side without any thought about it.

Oddly enough, I don't have the patience for computers half the time. I hate that moment when you drop money on a compatible game/part and it simply doesn't work. I ended up terribly assaulting one of my computers and tearing its guts apart with my bare hands because the (perfectly good) hard drive would simply fail during the Windows 8 install.

That's just me having terrible anger issues though.

I think they're both all the same, but in my opinion, I think consoles are better~! =)=) <3 <3 Easy to use and more comfortable~?! :DD <3 <3 ;)    :pinkie:  :pinkie:

I can use all the same inputs (and more) on my PC than I can on my PS3 or PS4.

I use both of them and they all work fine, but my PC really need some upgrades when I'm planning to play the new Doom or Fallout 4.

I'm not buying one of the 8th generation consoles. The only 8th generation gaming device I use is the 3DS.

Both have their ups and downs. I remember I owned the Peter Jackson's King Kong video game on both Xbox and PC. Both were pretty much the same thing, but I always preferred to play the Xbox version because it had a smoother gameplay than its PC counterpart and the controlling was more easy. But both are pretty fun nonetheless, and it still stands as one of the best movie-to-game adaptations ever made. While both have ups and cons, it also depends on what kind of game you're playing, as SimStat pointed up.

Not going to lie, I totally expected to read the OP, and click out in a huff. Instead, @Key Sharkz, you made a well thought out and intelligent comparison. I am impressed.

I generally console game, because most of my IRL friends do. Most of them simply can't afford the upkeep, or even more than one console. Additionally, my fingers are not as dexterous as I'd like for keyboard-gaming, and I do enjoy when a game is controller compatible, as more and more are.. I still do PC from time to time, but not all that often, and less of it as time wears on, because I can't afford to keep up with the upkeep, especially with most of my time spent on consoles.

Eventually, when I can afford it, and my need to play something on PC is great enough, I'll splurge on something top of the line, and relish in the maxed out settings on every game I play, but time will march on, and another PC will slowly fall into obsolescence.

Consoles. Consoles all the way. Consoles, all day, every day !  :squee:

Consoles tell you exactly which games you can play with them.

The are cheaper than this so called " Gaming Pcs " . They have preinstalled Controllers and easy to use interfaces, and some of them dont even need any interfaces at all.

You dont have to update them ( im talking about older consoles ) and you can literally play all the games for that system, no madder what  ;)

Than they are Pcs.

If you have an Apple like me, you just trough nearly 2000 dollars out of the window, because the damn think can play literally nothing that i want.

Tons of flash games arent for mac, tons of steam games arent for mac, tons of pc games arent for mac.  :okiedokielokie:

Then there is Windows...yeah...no.

I mean, i dont even know what games i can exactly play on the system and what not.

They are the Dosgames, who doesnt work and you have to install different programs to play them.

Then they are the middle ones, who arent for Dos, but still doesnt work and i have no idea why.

Then they are these kind of games where you need a freaking code to even activate it and if you buy them used, there is no chance you can play them, even if you have an original copy  >_>

I mean i bought a game new and the code was missing, like...what the buck?  :okiedokielokie:

I mean, if a highly advanced Computer for double the amount of money than a console, cant even play a freaking interactive Comic, im done.

Buck Pcs, seriously  :okiedokielokie:

Yea, never get a Mac for PC gaming.  Heck, never get a Mac period, unless you like paying a premium to not run the majority of the software out on the market. A modern Windows system will run everything out there, be it old DOS games or current generation games, provided you know how to get everything to work.

I enjoy both consoles and my PC. I never understand these people that look down upon others that game primarily on console.

Just because you only play games on PC makes you a better individual than this other person that prefers to play on a console? That's like telling someone you're better because you drive a big diesel guzzling Dodge truck while they drive a little gas efficient Ford Focus. In the end, they both have their similarities, differences and even advantages and disadvantages but are still vehicles on the road taking you from Point A to Point B.

Gaming, on any type of platform, is entertainment for everyone. I don't let people on the internet sway my personal decisions. If I want to play Phantom Pain or Fallout 4 on PS4 than dammit I'm going to do it and I'm going to share my experiences with everyone, regardless if I'm not playing on PC. Before my friend got a laptop he played TF2 on PS3. Even though it had really bad framerate drops and people only played on two maps, I would always join him and have a blast playing it regardless of the glaring issues. I prefer it on PC, but had a lot of good laughs on the PS3 version with him.

Enjoy what you prefer to play on.

Hash tag : Wishful Thinking.

But really, ive tried to get Dos Games to work and i just couldnt do it.

I tried to play Worms, installed Dosbox and other Programs and it just didnt worked.

I got the intro sequence to work, and that was it.

Now you tell me a good Pc can play it ( or atleast a newer Version of Windows, but i doubt it that just installing Windows 10 would help...so i assume you mean a new pc i guess )...was does this cost, like almost 1000 dollars ?

Sry, but it seems just better to me, to buy cheaper consoles to play older games, than to buy an overpriced pc, which you cant even be sure, that it runs the games you want it to run.

And then they are games like Superboy : Spies from other Space, which constantly tell me, that they require windows...uhm well, i have windows...and it still doesnt work  :okiedokielokie:

Despite being a PC gamer myself, I can not look at consoles and just think "yeah there is nothing on there that I would want on PC", because I would be lying.

Any PC should be able to run a DOS game.  Granted, it does take a little technical know how to get the DOS emulator or Windows compatibility mode to work correctly.

Alternatively, you can often purchase DOS games of gog.com.  They bundle the game with a self running executable that starts Dosbox up with all the correct instructions to get the game running automatically with zero problems.  I purchased Ultima 7 off gog.com, which has got to be the single most temperamental game ever made in terms of getting the DOS settings correct, and I was able to run it the first time no problem.  Granted you have to purchase the game again, but its cheap, you get a permanent internet account that can access the game from anywhere, and the game can still run on the local hard drive DRM free without a client, so it is an amazing deal.  I absolutely love gog.com for this reason.

I much prefer PC over my old consoles nowadays, as I generally find the games to be quite a bit cheaper with the bi-annual big Steam sales. In addition, there's much more variety in what you can do on a PC over what you can do on a dated console. However, building a decent rig + buying quality peripherals are considerably more expensive, as gaming mice, mechanical keyboards, and high-resolution + high refresh rate monitors don't go too cheap. I luckily don't have to watch every dollar in my current financial situation at the moment, so I prefer to enjoy the luxury of having a good PC while it lasts

Who cares. As long as I can play games on both, I'm satisfied.

You would be amazed at the arguments I have seen. I've legitimately seen people say that console gamers are "destroying society by supporting greedy corrupt companies". Etc.

I honestly think you don't realise what playing on PC really means. You can't compare PC gaming and playing games on a Mac, it makes no sense. You wouldn't think consoles are terrible because some people sold you a non-working GameCube for 1500$, right ? Well, if you hadn't played on working consoles with the right price, maybe you would have thought they're terrible. Wouldn't it be a shame ?

The rig I built did cost me just under $1,000. But I built it as a console-destroyer, one that is capable of 4k at more than 60+ FPS (sometimes pushing 100+ in-game). It can play any game I throw at it, and it should be able to for at least the next 3 years before I consider upgrading.

@,

I'm curious by the way, what is your graphic card and processor ? It's been a moment I didn't upgrade my PC, I have no idea which cards can run games on 4K. Did the 4K and/or 120Hz screens decrease in prices too ?

CPU is an i5-4590. If anyone tells you you need an i7 to play games on, punch them in the face.

GPU is a MSI GTX 970. The 970 (and the R9 290) are capable of 4k. And no, 4k monitors are still very expensive. I'm thinking about getting a 1440p monitor myself.
