Now Twilight has a castle and a official title, should she have a Guard/s?

As for the topic, I believe the castle isn't designed around any kind of defense. It's supposed to be open and inviting. My ideas on her not having guards is related to Twilight's princess status not being a large part of her life despite the ending of season 4. It's like she's supposed to be a princess but not really.

I completely agree that this is indeed the way they want to present her treehouse. In other words: you’re trying your best to remain canon. I also think it’s rather boring since it makes the world into even more of an artificial stage than it already is. There is a time and place to preach canon and oh do I love to do that, just understand that doing so without even a hint of humor quickly kills any debate about pony stuff. Inexplicable things that don’t really make sense are canon cause canon/thread leave you with nothing to work with. There are no defined rules in Ponyverse, so fans will gladly ignore it in favor of their own imagination. People like you and I, we tend to spoil that fun.

Well Starlight would attack her directly so maybe things will change with the Season 5 finale.

 

I don't really see the need for royal guards at this point and time though as most potential threats can be dealt with as is, but getting a few guards might not be bad a idea.

I agree that Twilight's new castle could use a few guards around just for aesthetic and all-too-practical reasons.  My biggest problem with the place is the same one Twilight was struggling with; it feels empty and lonely with none of the homey charm of the Golden Oak Library.

 

Having a small contingent of guards and household servants would make it feel more like a functioning castle and less like an in-show commercial to buy the playset.  Even if guards are unnecessary, having them just makes sense to me and would add a "lived-in" vibe to Twilight's otherwise empty castle.

The show wasn't much, but IMO they had the coolest opening of any show since Mission Impossible.

Perhaps because the castle is an extension of The Tree of Harmony, the whole castle is alive and doesn't need guards watching over things?

 

If someone who really meant harm to the castle's occupants got in, it would grow a crystal cage like that of the one that trapped Twilight at the end of The Crystal Empire?

Probably Twilight doesn't need guards... Well, in "Three's a crowd" episode princess Cadance told her guards not to follow her, so two princesses were walking around ponyville without the guards. By the way, as other princesses are, Twilight is strong enough to protect herself if it's needed, sorry for telling obvious things. But not using guards shows that Twilight trust all ponies around and that she doesn't consider herself more important than others...
