Thread of Sage-Like Wisdom

Recommended Posts

So I've been skimming the forums for a while now, and I've noticed that there's many members who have their own advice that really helped me, so I decided to start a thread dedicated to sharing advice you have gotten or you decide that people need to know.

Thanks!

I would still rather die having glimpsed eternity than never to have stirred from the furrow of mortal life. I embrace death without regret as I have embraced  life without fear.

Learning things is only as hard as you think it is. If you decide that it's not going to be a big deal, then it's not a big deal. I hated math in highschool and now I'm breezing through calculus on my way to becoming an engineer, and it simply came from the thought "do what you can with what you know, and if you get stuck, ask for help".

The most valuable lesson is ''experience'' but experience is only gained with living not aging. Time ripes pears not people my friend =) '''

The thing I've learned is Don't ever think your past is who you are. There is a saying,"The past is history, the future is unknowable and now is a gift, that's why it's called the present." I've learned to not dwell from where you came from, because it dose not define who you are or how you act, only you do. Always plan for the future and listen to people that are trying to help you,it'll take you a long way.

Never ever ever ever take your loved ones for granted.

I know it's cliche to say, but you don't know what tomorrow will bring, nobody does. One sentence could bear the worst news. Too much lost time can bear the most painful regret and lost memories. Not being there for somebody could be their downfall. Words not spoken will make your heart heavy with guilt when you can no longer speak them.

Love is the stuff of life made whole where mind and matter meet

Friendship is the glory of groups made whole where freedom takes its seat

Nothing was ever accomplished by hate which truth could not undo

Yet silence speaks more vast horror than loathing could ever accrue

one of my closest friends told me this bit:

'Know thyself, and thy enemy, find victory in a hundred battles.

Know thyself, but not thy enemy, find victory and loss in equal measure.
Know thy enemy, but not thyself, find defeat in every battle.'

Though you may subscribe to a certain belief, it's not a bad thing at all explore the beliefs of others, even ones that goes against everything you stand for.  Ignorance is never bliss.

And someone here on the forums told me a little something that's been sticking to me:

"Do you have to be Christian to be like Christ?"

What I've learn over the years is that no matter what people think about you, you shouldn't listen to them. The only person you have to impress is you and only you.

Another thing I've learned over the years is that you will more likely have friends be more like family to you than your own family. But be careful, cuz only so little few are true friends.

Another thing I've learned is that at the end of the day, you born alone and you die alone. People only really care about themselves. And at the end of the day you are all that you've got. So stop hoping and expecting and start doing. Do all in your power to make things happen your way and if they don't, so what, you was not hoping or expecting it, so it will not affect you.

Here's one written back in the year 1000

"That bar must be strong     which unbars the door

to each and every one:

Show the beggar your back     lest, bearing thee grudge,

He wish you all manner of mischief."

The first half means don't be too generous and hospitable. The second half is understood in malem partem

“To be hopeful in bad times is not just foolishly romantic. It is based on the fact that human history is a history not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. What we choose to emphasize in this complex history will determine our lives. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places—and there are so many—where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act, and at least the possibility of sending this spinning top of a world in a different direction." – Howard Zinn
