gaming Creepiest/Scariest game you've ever played

The Minecraft Map "Grief" is one of the most terrifying MC horror maps I've ever played.

The map makes use of Minecraft's suttle default graphics to catch you off guard.

That, and the atmosphere makes you want to crap your pants.

In my opinion it's the best horror map out there.

As for an idividual game, nothing beats Amnesia.

My only issue with amnesia is that the puzzles can be incredibly tedious.

Outlast fucking got me like no other horror game. That might be the creepiest horror game I've ever played. I think Outlast had a good balance of jumpscares and tension. Dead Space was really, really good too, though I wish the final boss had been a little more tense...

I would have to say the Silent Hill series I own and have played 1,2,3,4 and origins there is some humor in the games, but at times it made me jump due to you don't know if something is close or far which would end badly for me especially when it comes to corners, but some parts of the games are silent which makes it eerie especially with the fog now I would have to say Silent Hill 4 is more silly if anything, but the others have caused me to jump at times which I of course laughed at myself, but overall the games had a good mixture between the music, surroundings and the monsters being unpredictable plus Pyramid Head and Valtiel are just awesome.

Scariest, I'd have to say the early parts of Undying - the game kinda takes a slow, steady decline after a certain point, but early on, I kept jumping at shadows.

For persistent creep factor, I'd have to say STALKER - when you first play it, it's really hard to distinguish from creepy things that want to kill you {and that's almost all of them} from things that are merely creepy.

As for FEAR.... ehh. I played through it, but it lost its edge when I realized it mainly depended on jump scares, which were rarely actually threatening.

  • 2 weeks later...

Amnesia was pretty scary for awhile until I got used to the monsters. Same with Minecraft for that darn "Dark cave is nearby" noise that played.

Slender was a good scary game for awhile until I binged it trying to beat it... closest I gotten was missing 1 page and going the wrong direction to get it.

Recently SOMA has creeped me out on a completely different level. Its disturbing psychologically.

Well if I have to pick some of the scariest games I played latelly I would go for Amnesia too(it is a pretty neat game) but there are many other scary games such as hmm Fear (mostly because its creepy),pesadelo(sick one),Penubra:black plague

Games like DeadSpace(all of them) are funny games that make me laugh honestly ... I might be mad but I need jumpscares most of the time to have a reaction or anything..

I have to confess, I'm a huge wimp in scary games. I get scared really easily, so I don't enjoy the horror/spoopy genre much.

That said, I have played a little bit of SCP - Containment Breach. It absolutely freaked me out. One time I was playing around with godmode and a magical drink dispenser, and one of the enemies sneaked up on me. I really didn't think that anything could creep up on me, so I was really relaxed at the time.

I turned around to do something else, and the enemy was right in my face. I almost fell out of my chair... :(

Downfall ?

It was also very interesting, particularly in the end, while The Cat Lady was mostly interesting in the beginning. They made a remake recently, I should probably check it out.

Pictures are probably against the rules though, but you can still find it on google with "Downfall game". Though don't do it if you are afraid of gore and psychological horror, it's not like those recent games where you are chased by some creepy guy/robot..

The last scary game I played, or attempted to, was Slender The Arrival. I barely played it, maybe like 10mins worth purely because I couldn't. Just the atmosphere of the whole thing had me freaked and Slender Man does really creep me out in general (there was a guy cosplaying as him at London Comic-con a couple weeks ago, I tried to avoid him). I never even got to do anything or have anything happen in the game and I was just totally "I'm out! not playing this".

As a kid, I thought Splatterhouse 2 and 3 were pretty scary. For a 16-bit game, I think they did a good job designing the monsters and creating the music. Another one worthing mentioning is Friday the 13th for the NES. It always creeped me out when Jason would randomly appear while you were walking around the camp or searching a house.
