Light saber or Laser Sword?

What do you usually say when you see fictional swords that has a beam shooting out. Like this for example.

I just call it a laser sword. Because

1: I dislike Star Wars

2: I am just used to calling it that.

What about you?

Light Saber is way better, especially those double-bladed ones that may be able to split into two light sabers, like the one Darth Mull had in Episode 1.

Light saber, since "laser swords" sounds really wierd...

I mean, imagine a conversation like that: Person 1: "Hey, did you see that new Star Wars movie with the epic laser swords?" Person 2: "No, I didn't, really... plus, why are you calling them laser swords? I thought they were supposed to be light sabers, not laser swords."

Person 1: ...

Person 2: ...

Person 1: "You're right, light sabers sound way better. But, laser swords for the win!"

Laser swords just loses the epicness

and cool sounding thing that makes the Star Wars franchise what it is.

Light saber because there are no good laser swords, @@@Lithophila ;)

Aha ^w^. I searched up "Laser Swords". Turns out there are some who have tried it and burned stuff on it. So i guess with technology you never know, but it seriously does looks very dangerous though.

@@Lithophila, believe it or not, they actually call a light saber a laser sword in the dreaded awful Phantom Menace

I can only assume its a better term for it, considering lasers burn. And since there exists some powerful lasers that can have strong enough power to burn. Or in science fiction it slices off with one touch though.

I have never called any sword from anything outside of starwars a lightsaber. I think that is foolish. Personally, while a fane of star wars I am, I think that lightsaber is a dumbass name for their weapons. Perhaps if it were really a saber, I'd be more inclined to feel like that is what they are. ._. This being said however, I don't refer to the other weapons of the caliber as laser swords either. Commonly I go by three names depending on the origin of the weapon.

Beam Sword

Energy Sword

Beam Saber

Personally, as far as late 70's scifi goes, I am much more akin to Gundam though. I think it's much better than Star Wars. Thats just my opinion.

I tend to call anything like that outside the Star Wars universe a laser sword.  Lightsaber just seems like a very Star Wars-specific designation to me.

I call it whatever it's called in the franchise it's in. In StarWars, it's a lightsaber. In something else it might be a laser sword or a phaseblade. It's all depending on what it's in.

Lightsabers do not burn, laser sword, burns. Lightsaber, is made entirely of light energy, (or whatever the hell its made of), and a laser sword, in my book, laser is a component of the actual blade, not one hundred percent laser. Eh. I'm just rambling.

If you're talking StarWars, lightsabers certainly do burn. They're composed of superheated plasma contained within an energy field of some sort. Their name just refers to their intense colour properties. Hence why the terms 'lightsaber' and 'laser sword' are used interchangeably.

After Star Wars, Light Saber should be the only acceptable term. Besides, laser sword just sounds dumb
